Background Interview on ABC7’s “The View from the Bay” will be to discuss impending service changes and modifications.

Talking Points for Mr. Ford Thanks for having me here today, Nick. This is a great opportunity to inform your viewers—our customers—of the upcoming changes to your Muni system. Beginning tomorrow, Dec. 5, more than half of all existing Muni routes will change. In some cases routes or route segments will be eliminated or modified while other routes will be adjusted. As you know these changes were implemented as a partial solution to balancing the $129 million deficit the Agency projected for FY2010. These are some of the most sweeping changes we’ve seen in years at Muni. Mayor Newsom and I held a press conference last week to discuss these changes along with the comprehensive public awareness campaign we have developed moving forward.

In the past week we have stationed more than 100 Muni Ambassadors throughout the City to inform and alert our customers of these changes and to assist them in future trip planning. These Ambassadors will continue to be out in force in orange hats and vests through the weekend and all next week to continue to assist our customers during this transition period. We have created a detailed brochure outlining these changes that is available online, onboard Muni buses and trains, at SFMTA sales locations, public libraries, government offices and various community centers. Ads are posted on all of our transit vehicles as well as in stations and in local community and daily newspapers. All communications are either produced or available in English, Spanish and Chinese. I urge customers with questions to visit us online for more information at sfmta.com or by calling 311 for trip planning advice and assistance. It is our top priority to make sure our customers are up to speed on these changes taking affect tomorrow. Other Details Event Host(s): ABC7
