Zamora’s practice is characterized by their attention to interactions between line and form, achieving this through a combination of paint and compound. Through this, the two-dimensional plane begins to project a dynamic impression. The artist’s thoughtful mediation between form and materiality produces an immersive plane. Indeed, Zamora’s works are alluringly dimensional, willing their viewer to exercise presence. The works included in My Blue Friend succeed a devastating personal loss for the artist. As such, Zamora revisits their rigorous technique in order to process the ebbs and flows of loss and memory. Zamora’s memories of their lost loved one are bound to the meeting of the earth and sea–hence the exhibition’s title. Of this body of work, Zamora states, “ [It] is a rumination on how the repetition and consistency of the ocean and the setting of the sun act as a salve during times of cacophony, uncertainty, and loss....”
