200 Years of Alpine hospitality – at 1,300m

T

he Angerer Alm is more than two centuries old. When it was built, it was thought to be the highest farm in St Johann. Life has become easier since then, of course. But this is and always will be an Alpine hut: rustic, down-to-earth, in touch with nature, hospitable – in a word, inimitable. It’s our pride and joy! A summer’s evening on our terrace: the last walkers and cable cars have left for the valley, and you are enjoying the stillness as you gaze across to the Wilder Kaiser. A winter’s morning: snap into your skis and make the first powder tracks of the day as you ski down to the valley. Breathtaking, unforgettable experiences

Uplift to the mountain

T

he best way to reach us in summer or winter is by cable car. This mode of transport governs life up here at 1,300m: it brings milk, newspapers – and, of course, our lovely staff and visitors. In the summer, overnight guests may also choose to drive up by car, but in winter the deep snow cover of the St Johann ski resort means we’re only accessible by cable car.

Home cooking or fine dining: our food always hits the spot

D

uring the day we serve traditional Austrian fare: ‘Brettljause’ (cold cuts, cheese and garnishes), roast pork, bacon dumplings, gröstl and of course Kaiserschmarrn and other delicious desserts. We also offer updated interpretations of local dishes that have slightly faded into obscurity in recent times. In winter hot soups and all the classic mountain refuge dishes that are so good after a day on the slopes are also added to the menu. It’s important to us that everything is fresh, that ingredients have been sourced locally from suppliers we know and respect, and that we make and process as much as possible ourselves. The meat we use is from our own farm (you’ll find our summer cowshed within a few hundred metres of the Angerer Alm), and all our game comes from the mountain. Not forgetting… our hearty mountain breakfast for residents and earlybird visitors: delicious Bircher muesli, homemade jams and cakes as well as fresh eggs prepared any way you like. A great way to start your day in the mountains.

Chefs Gerald Weiss & Katharina Foidl

In the evening we like to indulge you with fine Ă la carte dishes or multi-course meals: not a set menu, but created every day to guarantee the freshest ingredients and an element of surprise

Buried treasure in the mountain: our very fine wine cellar

T

hey say the Angerer Alm’s wine cellar is one of the best in the Alps, and that naturally gives us great satisfaction.

Our cellar is home to 6,000 bottles representing around 400 wineries from around the world including a number of special gems... Of course we also serve many splendid table wines. As a certified sommelier and President of the Austrian Sommelier Association, Annemarie Foidl is privy to insider knowledge that she loves to share with her guests. We would be delighted to arrange a candlelit wine tasting for you. As well as loving fine wines, we’re also interested in every aspect of good drinking, and you’ll find brilliant local beer, fine Schnapps from small Alpine distilleries, first-class coffees, and a good selection of non-alcoholic beverages on our drinks menu.

A great night’s sleep and all the charm of ages past

T

he Angerer Alm can accommodate around 30 guests in 13 rooms. The rooms are furnished in a simple but comfortable style, with gingham bed linen, old country furniture, and even the odd bunk bed: a great hit with guests of all ages. However, you won’t find TVs, mini bars or en-suite bathrooms in our mountain retreat. Our beloved Alm is and always will be an original and authentic Alpine hut that has grown and developed over the ages. Instead of 5-star luxury, we offer you all the stars in the night sky. Anyone who has stepped out onto their bedroom balcony, wrapped in an Angerer Alm bathrobe, and watched the sun rise from behind the Kitzbüheler Horn will tell you: this experience is one of life’s true luxuries. When the weather isn’t great, the atmosphere in the Angerer Alm more than makes up for it. Sitting by the fire with a good book while outside the snowflakes dance and the clouds roll in... or curling up in bed as the sound of the wind lulls you to sleep...

That’s Alpine magic!

We love to indulge our guests with a fine gourmet dinner menu and our hearty mountain breakfast

Events & seminars – far from routine

W

eddings, christenings, birthdays and private parties are just that little bit more special at the Angerer Alm.

Special occasions usually start with a Champagne aperitif on the terrace or meadow, and have been known to keep going until after breakfast the following morning. The Angerer Alm also provides an excellent venue for meetings and other events. We have all the technical equipment, but that’s not the only reason companies keep coming back: They also appreciate the tranquillity of the natural surroundings. There are no distractions, so productive work is guaranteed. The special atmosphere of the Alpine pastures brings people together.

‘You arrive as an individual and leave as a team’, was one verdict. We couldn’t agree more.
