Enrichment Week at Hymers College... a selection of the week’s activities STEM enrichment day

Student Finance Monopoly from the Year 9 HE Experience Day during enrichment week. What would you do?

LawSoc Court visit An impressive output voltage from a turbine design with Year 8 during the STEM enrichment day from @ukstemdotuk.

During Enrichment week, LawSoc visited Hull Combined Court for a tour and to watch an ongoing murder trial.

The organisers had never seen a 4V output before. Well done!

They also had the amazing opportunity to speak with HHJ Thackray QC and the honourable Mr Justice Fraser who is a High Court Judge.

Old Hymerian Laura Williamson, senior editor for The Athletic UK and former sports news editor and sports writer at The Daily Mail, visited the school as a part of the Year 11/12 NCS programme.

YEAR 12 UCAS - Some Key Dates → 4 May – UCAS search tool will display 2022 undergraduate courses. →M ay/June – Most of Year 12 have now registered on the UCAS site. Help with completing your application can be found via: UCAS Registration 2022 Entry - with a useful powerpoint/pdf (“MyApplication”) offering advice with screenshots of each section. → E arly entry applicants should have their completed applications with finished personal statement by early September. →M yUniChoices - log into your account and continue researching university options - filter and shortlist the courses that interest you. Use the Personal Statement planner to help you develop a strong application. → E stimate the tuition fees loan and maintenance loan that you are entitled to: Student finance calculator - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Apprenticeships → T hank you to Mrs Needle (Degree Apprenticeships) and Mrs Pennack (CVs) for their help with the Year 12 group in June.

Students should continue to research using their accounts on the Gov site and the links via Schoogle. →V isit the apprenticeship page to view the excellent introductory video from Amazing Apprenticeships. Use the Vacancy Snapshot to view the higher/degree apprenticeships available at a range of top companies - it may surprise you! More on Schoogle. We will be holding an update session for interested students during the lecture slots. →U CAT & BMAT courses for prospective Medicine and Dentistry candidates take place on 21 and 28 June respectively. →V ictoria Farrow (OH), will be (virtually) visiting the school to talk to students interested in Architecture and other design courses. Victoria is Associate Professor and BA Architecture Course Director at Birmingham City University.

YEARS 8-10 Wonder where your subjects might lead in the future? Lots of helpful information via: Subject Links ebooks Enrichment Week Year 8 completed a half day introducing the world of careers with some interactive games and online activities. The wordart CVs were especially impressive Year 9 completed a Higher Education Experience Day in conjuction with staff and students from Hull University. They learnt about the range of courses available in HE, student budgeting and finance, met current students (zoomed) with a Q & A session and researched what is available post 18 at university. Pictionary and Monopoly included! Year 10 have completed their aptitude testing and interest-based analysis via the MyFutureChoice careers programme. This is in preparation for the busy year ahead. Students want to know how uni will set them up for their life and careers. To help answer these big questions, Discover Uni has the latest data on graduate salaries, what jobs graduates go on to do, and what students think of their courses. www.discoveruni.gov.uk is the UKwide official information, advice and guidance resource on higher education across the UK – designed to help applicants to make the best choices for them.

Please note: On average it will take about two weeks for tutors and advisers to fully process an application – please meet deadlines. Early entry applicants need to have their application completed by the middle of September in preparation for the UCAS deadline on 15th October!

• MyUniChoices – web app, which includes a variety of features to help choose a well matched university course. • Degree Course Descriptions – outlines of over 120 degree course descriptions online to help students get started. This is a valuable online resource that helps students in their early research to understand the content of different degree courses. • Personal statement planner and builder to help you organise your thoughts and save a record.

It might sound confusing, but the great news is that in all cases you can expect more than an average degree, including one year industrial placements, paid summer work experience and annual scholarship or bursary payments. Events: Join us for a new

UK University & Apprenticeship Search Virtual Fair on Wednesday 14 July 2021 - 12-6pm Following the success of our virtual events during lockdown, we are bringing our highly interactive fair back for even more students to experience, with a wide range of universities, colleges and apprenticeship providers joining us. This event will allow you to explore all your post-18 options in one place, with a huge range of exhibitors coming along. Universities

will include Russell Group, red brick, modern and specialist institutions, as well as colleges and apprenticeship providers. You’ll be able to explore exhibition stands, live chat with admissions officers, student ambassadors, academics and recruitment teams to ask any questions you have, view virtual campus tours, prospectuses and information, and take part in 10

live and interactive webinars in the auditorium. The event is completely free of charge and is for students, teachers and parents from around the UK, and international students looking to study in the UK. Our events are designed to make researching your post-18 options really engaging, there will be lots of interactive elements for you to explore virtually whilst at school or at home.
