opportunity to participate in our buddy system, which provides individual peer guidance to those students in the years below.
In the Sixth Form students are able to take on new responsibilities and challenges, and enjoy greater independence with their studies and time management. They will be encouraged to exceed what is expected of them and leave with the skills to equip them for their next endeavours.
Supporting and giving back to the community is an important part of the ethos of Hymers College and our students are involved in a number of projects, from listening to children read in several local primary schools, to collecting toys and games for vulnerable children.
The vast majority of our year 11 group will continue on into our Sixth Form and they will be joined by new pupils to Hymers, coming specifically for the final two years of study.
Sixth Form students are encouraged to make the most of our extensive co-curricular programme which continues into Years 12 and 13. Whether that is a love of sport, music, drama or

Curriculum Year 12 & 13 Students generally choose three A Level subjects (four in certain circumstances). Course availability of some subjects may depend upon demand. The Sixth Form provision is continuously reviewed to respond to the needs of pupils. The most up-to-date list of courses is available by contacting the School. A number of independently studied courses are also available, such as the Extended Project Qualification and the Certificate in Financial Studies. Students are supported through their studies via a tutor typically in a small group of 12 who meet on a daily basis.

Our dedicated Sixth Form Centre has its own Junior Common Room, dining facility, computer suites, study areas and socialising hubs. There are also screens showing important notices and Sixth Form news. Students are encouraged to use our Learning Resource Centre, which has areas conducive to silent study and independent learning, a skill required for university life and further education. We also encourage a variety of learning methods for Sixth Form pupils, including weekly lectures from exciting external speakers ranging from a Holocaust survivor to hypnotist Martin Taylor. Cocurricular We encourage our students to be busy and make the most of all the activities we have on offer, of which there are many. In addition to the creative arts and sports activities we have timetabled, we provide a Sixth Form specific co-curricular programme for our students to become involved in. Our pupils also enjoy a variety of field trips throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Most recently, these have included a Physics trip to Switzerland, Biology trip to Cranedale and CatZero yachting expedition. In addition, our senior sports squads have the opportunity to go on tour to destinations in the UK and abroad. The most recent trip took our hockey, rugby and netball teams on a tour to South Africa. Our students in Years 12 & 13 have enjoyed recent national recognition in a number of areas including National Schools Badminton Championships, ISGA Finalists, National Squash Trophy Finalists, National Representation for Science Olympiads, National Engineering Finalists, Cambridge Schools Debating Competition Finalists and Winners of the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship to name but a few. 18

We have a second-to-none individual UCAS Support Programme in place to make sure all students get the support and help they need while applying for University.
