Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

I am Miss Tenniswood, the Library Manager at Hymers College. I have two very cute but naughty pugs called Peanut and Biscuit. I love reading books that shock and surprise me. I have a degree in Library and Information Studies.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman

“Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is a story about a woman who is an awkward and damaged social outcast. It’s about her journey to find a way to survive and to open her life and heart up to others. The novel deals with themes about alienation, loneliness and kindness with humour and empathy. A beautiful story that will tug at your heart strings, and make you laugh with the main characters awkward behaviour and her relationship with others. This book is full of quiet warmth and deep and unspoken sadness.”

“I smiled at her. Twice in one day, to be the recipient of thanks and warm regard! I would never have suspected that small deeds could elicit such genuine, generous responses. I felt a little glow inside—not a blaze, more like a small, steady candle.”

A very interesting book on a real girl called Lucy who is starting to reluctantly discover her sexuality as she grows up around her friends.

I think it is a good book for children who are discovering who they are and are too scared to come out to their parents, it is a reminder that there are people who are like them and have been through something. Hayla (Y7)

The Girl of Ink and Stars is a magical adventure. It is set on a ittle island where half of the island is blocked off. I enjoyed this book as it made you gripped to the book and wanting you to read on. Kiki 10D

about this book and I decided that I would read it. It was AMAZING. The story was smartly written with nice twists and different perspectives, yet still went by quite quickly - but enough for you to follow along. The author keeps you guessing until the very end and the characters felt realistic. My favourite character was Tom as I adored his concern over Amy, and over time it dawned on everyone that Tom was right. The pages turned themselves and the emotions I got after reading this book were strong as Amy’s family was in a very hard position, and this book highlights abusive/manipulative relationships. The only thing I didn’t like was that the resolution didn’t tie some of the loose ends but overall, I was impressed.
