RICHARD ALLEN

DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL Welcome to Loughborough University Stadium. We are delighted to welcome the players, officials and a number of supporters of Doncaster Belles for this afternoons FA National League - League Cup match. Due to a Premier League festival we don’t have use of our stand and lounge area today. Our apologies. Toilets and refreshments are both available in the courtyard, please keep your eyes open for signs. Belles currently sit in 4th place in the WPL Division 1 (Midlands) with 9 points from 4 games. Two 1-0 wins at Home to Burton Albion and Khalsa see them coming here today on a good run of form. Last weekend was disappointing for both our Men’s and Women’s sides. Saturday saw the Men’s team knocked out of the FA Cup, loosing 2-0 away at Bromsgrove Sporting. Nothing between the 2 teams but a set piece in either side was enough to put Sporting through to the next round. We were well beaten by Stoke City. A disappointing performance and result against a team we had beaten in pre season. It does show how teams are continuing to build.

Hopefully, we can get back into winning ways this afternoon in the League Cup against the famous Doncaster Belles. Enjoy what I’m sure will be an entertaining game. Richard Allen Director of Football

CHLOE YOUNG

CAPTAIN New competition, new opponents and a fresh week to go again. To say last weekend was disappointing is an understatement but we look to put things right today against an unknown opponent. We’ve analysed where we could have been better against Stoke, the first half was not a reflection of us as players or our coaches and support team. Second half there was improvement, we got a goal back, created some good chances and kept Stoke pinned back but unfortunately we’d caused our own problems in the first half and 4-0 down on this occasion was difficult to come back from. I think the togetherness of this squad is something that will help us in bouncing back and putting in a performance today. We have a good group of players but also people, who want to develop and not let anyone down. Leaving past performances behind us and focusing on what we can do in the here and now will be huge for us today and we certainly looking to progress in this competition. So you should have the photos forwarded from last week, the player stats and result, devs result, player profile for this week and Chloe Young notes.

When the opposition have given me their history, squad list and logo and Richard has given me his notes that should be everything. Chloe Young Captain

TODAYS OPPOSITION

DONCASTER ROVER BELLES LFC

1969: The club is formed as the Belle Vue Belles by a group of young, ambitious women who were selling draw tickets on the terraces at Doncaster Rovers FC. 1971: They began playing local, small-sided games but within a short period of time found themselves venturing outside of Doncaster and subsequently the Belle Vue part of the name had no meaning. This led to one of the biggest moments in the club’s history as they decided to change their name to the Doncaster Belles. 2005: The Belles formalised a partnership link with Doncaster Rovers to enable the team to play a number of games at Belle Vue stadium and also to use the training facilities at Cantley Park. The partnership also led to a name-change of Doncaster Rovers Belles.

2013: The Football Association announced in April that, as part of an FA WSL restructure and expansion, Manchester City WFC would replace the Belles in the top tier in 2014. The Belles were placed in a new 10-team FA WSL 2. 2018: After finishing runnersup several times, the Belles finally got their hands on the WSL2 trophy. Emma Coates, Kate Rowson and Neil Redfearn all had spells as manager in our title-winning season, with our league win claimed just before kick-off in our penultimate game of the season. 2018/19: The 2018/19 season would see the Belles in the third tier of women’s football, with Zoey Shaw and her development squad all making the jump up to the first team, with home fixtures also being played at Rossington Main’s Oxford

Street ground. After a tough start to the campaign, Shaw’s side picked up respectable results towards the end of the season, narrowly missing out on survival on the final day. 2019: In the club’s 50th anniversary year, the Belles join the Club Doncaster family, with Russ Green joining as chief executive. The Belles reverted to their historic colours of red and white which they wore when they formed, whilst keeping yellow and blue colours for their away kit. 2020: Doncaster-born defender and former Doncaster Rovers club captain Andy Butler is named as the new Belles’ first-team manager in January 2020, bringing in Nick Buxton as his assistant. Butler’s first league game in charge of the Belles was a 2-0 home win over Burton Albion.

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING FC

A BRIEF HISTORY

LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES Gail and Paul Fox founded Loughborough Foxes in 1999, known then as Shepshed Foxes until 2002. For their first 15 years, Foxes played in local leagues, before being promoted to the FA Women’s Northern Premier Division (the 3rd ranked tier of women’s football) in 2015. After the first season they suffered relegation but managed a promotion in 2018 to return to this tier. Winning this Midlands Division One title was actually a club record for Foxes, winning 22 games and drawing just 1.

LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY PERFORMANCE TEAM Loughborough Students Women’s Football Club offers many competitive opportunities. The performance team compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) Northern Premier League. When possible, players are also supported to play “external football” alongside the programme, most notably with our partner Loughborough Foxes (Tier 3), but also other Tier 3 and Championship clubs. Each year Loughborough University invests a million pounds in performance sport, and a million pounds in facilities. Thanks to this investment, Director of Football Richard Allen is able to lead a professional programme of coaching and support.

As a first team performance squad member you will receive expert coaching, access to our world class facilities, heavily discounted Powerbase gym membership, strength and conditioning training, nutrition, sports science and sports medicine support. Within the programme players also have access to Performance Lifestyle support and our top athletes can apply for scholarships.

15

MERGING/ LIGHTNING LAUNCH The University’s performance team and the Loughborough Foxes have officially combined to launch a new Lightning programme that will compete nationally against some of the biggest names in the sport. The clubs have worked in close collaboration for a number of years now with Head Coach Issy Martin overseeing both programmes since her appointment at the University in September 2019.

Lightning will compete in the FA Northern Premier League where it will face teams including Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and West Bromwich Albion.
