ISSY MATRIN
HEAD COACH Its been a roller coaster of a past week (and season!) with 3 games in 8 days. A disappointing performance vs Burnley, but followed by two fantastic, gutsy performances against Forest and Huddersfield. Results aren’t everything and certainly aren’t the only performance measures to look at, but when we consider a 4-0 loss to Forest in the first Half of the season, to a 1-1 draw last week… the results present the growth and change in the group. 2 games to go vs Fylde and Wolves, we know we need to repeat the standards set in the last 2 fixtures. When we play at our best we can challenge anyone at this level, and that’s exactly what we plan to do today. Get behind the players today, we need our 12th player!! Issy Martin Head Coach

CHLOE YOUNG
CAPTAIN Here we are, our final home game of the 2021/22 season, yet there is still much to play for. This season has been the biggest learning curve for us as a group, with the introduction of the new lightning programme beginning in the first season without disruption, following the stoppages in the last few seasons. Following a solid start to this season, we faced many challenges and are aware questions were raised of us as a group. On top of that, the arrival of new players and coaches, alongside new support structures being put in to ensure we were and continue to be the best version of ourselves. There has been lots of changes to adapt to this year but with change comes progression. Since the turn of the year, something changed within this group of players. A fight, a belief and a team that will never give up and show togetherness from the first minute to the last. It has taken some time but the hard work of everyone involved in the programme, from the S&C,
analysts, coaches and players has got us in a position where we control the outcome of our season. Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has come to support us on this journey, your support means everything to the players, what a rollercoaster it has been and it’s not over yet!

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING FC
A BRIEF HISTORY
LOUGHBOROUGH FOXES Gail and Paul Fox founded Loughborough Foxes in 1999, known then as Shepshed Foxes until 2002. For their first 15 years, Foxes played in local leagues, before being promoted to the FA Women’s Northern Premier Division (the 3rd ranked tier of women’s football) in 2015. After the first season they suffered relegation but managed a promotion in 2018 to return to this tier. Winning this Midlands Division One title was actually a club record for Foxes, winning 22 games and drawing just 1.
LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY PERFORMANCE TEAM Loughborough Students Women’s Football Club offers many competitive opportunities. The performance team compete in the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) Northern Premier League. When possible, players are also supported to play “external football” alongside the programme, most notably with our partner Loughborough Foxes (Tier 3), but also other Tier 3 and Championship clubs. Each year Loughborough University invests a million pounds in performance sport, and a million pounds in facilities. Thanks to this investment, Director of Football Richard Allen is able to lead a professional programme of coaching and support.
As a first team performance squad member you will receive expert coaching, access to our world class facilities, heavily discounted Powerbase gym membership, strength and conditioning training, nutrition, sports science and sports medicine support. Within the programme players also have access to Performance Lifestyle support and our top athletes can apply for scholarships.

MERGING/ LIGHTNING LAUNCH The University’s performance team and the Loughborough Foxes have officially combined to launch a new Lightning programme that will compete nationally against some of the biggest names in the sport. The clubs have worked in close collaboration for a number of years now with Head Coach Issy Martin overseeing both programmes since her appointment at the University in September 2019.
Lightning will compete in the FA Northern Premier League where it will face teams including Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest, and West Bromwich Albion.
