We are very familiar with today’s opponents having locked horns in National 1 in previous years with each game proving to be a feast of tries and rugby. Hinckley have already proved their competitive ability getting off to flyer with 3 wins from 4. The squad is looking forward to getting back on the pitch this weekend having had a close loss away to Hornets.
The BUCS Super Rugby Programme Started this week with the group playing away at Durham. As always, it was a tough fixture, with pitch conditions and weather having an impact on the game. But our endeavour to play was there to see, unfortunately we fell to a 25 – 16 defeat. Next week we play Exeter at home 19:00pm, another opportunity to test ourselves against another top team. Please come and support.
The rugby clubs trials started this week. With over 200 players looking to play at Loughborough. This group includes a number of returning players but many 1st Year students who are looking to start their African Violet journey. The quality of players we continually get is still really exciting and especially with them all looking to study as well.
All the best to everyone today!

With 6 of the match-day 20 in line for their first national league appearances, a youthful Loughborough side arrived at Hornets looking to bounce-back from last weeks disappointing result against Exeter.
Clearly motivated by last weeks outcome, a fast start was made. With Jake Metcalfe dotting down on debut with just 5 minutes on the clock after an excellent initial break down the right hand side, before regaining possession a few phases later to finish off a fine Loughborough
attack. A couple of late first half Hornets tries, and some poor discipline (resulting in 2x yellow cards for the students) kept the hosts within reach throughout the first half however an absolutely clinical display of attacking rugby saw us run in 5 tries through the opening 40 minutes, taking a 31-21 lead into the break.
Despite the 10 point lead, we’d yet to have found 5th gear and returned for the second half determined to see the game through to the end and come home with 5 points.
A fast start from the hosts tightened the gap to 5 before a second try of the afternoon for Metcalfe extended our lead to 12 (sitting 38-26 ahead) heading into the final quarter of the game. Despite the healthy lead, numerous errors and relentless pressure from the hosts saw
the gap narrow to just 5, before a final minute converted try (after multiple scrum resets) saw Hornets take the lead for only the second time all afternoon. With little time left hornets saw out the remaining seconds to take a 40-38 win.
Despite a second successive defeat, signs of performance improvements are there and with the prospect of a derby fixture on home turf with Hinckley today, there is little doubt that a reaction will be seen as we look to head into the weekend off with a win under our belts.
Enjoy the game this afternoon, up the boro

Hinckley Rugby Club was formed in 1892 before its first matches in 1893. After some moving around in the early years Hinckley set up at Coventry Road in 1929, before moving to their current Leicester Road location just under forty years later. After a strong 1970s, the club struggled in the 80s when the league system was formed the club, suffering three consecutive relegations. Come the 90s they started to move back up the rugby hierarchy and reached the National leagues by the end of the 1990s.
After several seasons in the Midlands divisions Hinckley RFC were promoted to National Two North at the end of 2017. In 2017-18 they finished a very creditable fifth in the table with 20 wins from 29 games, dropping to 10th in 2018-19. Hinckley have had a mixed bag of results
so far this season, with a narrow win against Bourneville in their first game and a 15-26 loss against Leicester Lions the following week. They have pulled it back in their last two matches however, with strong wins against both Barnstaple and Redruth.
With Chris Campbell taking over as Director of Rugby, they continue to focus on building the club. Hinckley have a strong team with players who have previously played in the Championship, Premiership Academies, England age groups and the full Leicestershire county XV, with this group blended with a strong group of players who have come through the club's junior set up.
All this considered, its set to be a good game between the two local teams today.
