DIRECTOR OF RUGBY
Welcome all back to Loughborough University for another round of the Allianz Cup, our second home fixture of this season.
This week proves to be a good contest, however with some good results against Sale last season we stand in good stead for today’s fixture. Sale will be keen to bring a strong performance after a tough couple of games in the cup so far. We have a strong squad, with a new crop of young, aspirational players. With this I am certain we will have another excellent AP15s Cup game here at Epinal Way. Lightning are keen to prove themselves this week after some tough rounds against Bristol and Saracens recently. It’s exciting to see two of our young players making their debut for Lightning this week, Charlotte Fray and Lucia Linn. This is supported by our link with Loughborough Town which allows us to continually develop new players and bring them through for playing opportunities in the Cup.
Finally, good luck to all our players out in New Zealand currently playing in the World Cup. Its fantastic to have such a big representation out there, with another Lightning player being called up this week. A big congratulations to Detysha Harper! Thanks again for all your support today. We hope you enjoy this occasion.

Lightning suffered an unfortunate 40-24 loss against Bristol Bears in the Allianz Cup on Saturday. Bears travelled to Epinal Way having won both their previous matches in the cup and made it three from three in a six try victory.
Grace Crompton opened the scoring for Bears in the first minute after a break from her own half, however, Lightning pulled it back level through Lilli Ives Campion after a strong period of pressure in the Bears’ 22. Lightning then nudged ahead with Bryony Field and Nikita Prothero both going over, but Bears responded through Courtney
Keight and Gabriella Nigrelli to take the score level at19-19 into the break.
Lightning’s Ives Campion was shown a yellow card five minutes into the second half and Bears took advantage of their player advantage, scoring through Manon Johnes. Georgina Tasker closed the gap to two on the 54th minute after some slick play in the midfield from Lightning but despite continued pressure from the home side, Hannah West went over after a pick and go to score Bears’ fifth. Simi Pam then sealed the victory with a try on the 70th minute.
