RHYS EDWARDS DIRECTOR OF RUGBY
Welcome all to Loughborough University, where today we host Clifton. Welcome to all players and officials from the club, in what we hope will be another great game of National League Rugby. Our previous encounter this year was our first fixture, and we are excited to welcome them to campus for the first time.
Last week we took the long trip down to Redruth for our last away game of the season. After a narrow loss at home earlier in the season it was bound to be a good competition. We came back with the win, beating the Redruth side in another close encounter.
Today’s guests have been consistent in the league, coming in at third as we come into the last game of the season. The first fixture of the season proved to be a tight game between Clifton and the Students, with Clifton coming out on top by just three points. If that game is anything to go by, today should be an exciting encounter.
Our BUCS Super Rugby season has also come to a close this week, with a narrow loss to Exeter in the National Championship Final on Wednesday. The game went down to the wire with Exeter pulling ahead in the final minutes of extra time. Nevertheless, the squad have had an incredible season and come away with the BUCS Super Rugby League Title.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.
Thanks again for supporting the squad today,
it’s been great to see familiar faces every week.
All the best to everyone today!
Rhys Director of Rugby

The penultimate home game for the students saw an opportunity to break into the top six, whilst Barnstaple knew that leaving empty handed would see their loomed fate of relegation confirmed.
With Mr Woodhouse’s whistle commencing proceedings we were underway at a windy, but dry, Epinal Way, and the students wasted no time with the ever athletic Tomi Agbongbon dotting down inside 2 minutes. A penalty from the restart allowed Barnstaple to close the game however this was short lived as Pill crossed the line within 2 minutes more for a 2nd Loughborough try.
The rest of the half saw pure African violet dominance as Briers, Crane & Doyle all crossed to no Barnstaple response, and
the sides headed to the sheds with a 31-3 scoreline in Loughborough’s favour, with the outcome, and subsequent Barnstaple season, all but concluded. Many would’ve expected more of the same in the second half, with Barnstaple predicted to roll over and a cricket score to be knocked up by Loughborough. 3 minutes into the second half the man of the match George Barber crossed the line, however this was the last of the student scores and credit must go to Barnstaple for finding 2 scores of their own, with the game ending 38-17 to Loughborough. Whilst their fate has arrived, Barnstaple will be keen to finish the season strong, as for Loughborough, an opportunity to reach the top 5 must surely be the target.

Clifton Rugby Football Club is an English rugby union club founded in Clifton, Bristol. It is one of the country’s most historic clubs, and the oldest club in Bristol. Over the years the club's home games have been played in a variety of locations in northern Bristol, though never in Clifton itself; since 1976 they have
been based at the southern end of Cribbs Causeway.
The first XV currently sit at third in the National League 2 West table, scoring the most points in the league. After a close game back in September, can the Students get the win to close out the season?
