Facilities You will have access to a wide range of first-class facilities. STEMLab is a new, state-of-the-art laboratory facility for science and engineering subjects. It forms part of a wider £25 million investment in the West Park of our campus and allows us to offer new ways of learning and collaborating, with a ‘drop-in’ engineering workshop, teaching laboratories, workshops, computer-aided design and rapid prototyping facilities, a design studio and informal learning spaces. These enhanced facilities further increase our ability to train and develop skilled graduates that are targeted by major employers from across the world. Our guarantee Foundation students are guaranteed entry onto their chosen undergraduate course, provided that the relevant progression requirements set by their destination department are met. Career prospects Previous foundation year students have secured jobs in a range of national companies after graduation, including Ferrari, Boots, Johnson Matthey, Lloyds Banking Group, Jaguar Land Rover, Signalling Solutions Ltd, AML Technologies and Ford Motor Company. We also offer a specialist range of foundation courses for our elite athletes and a full range of foundation courses for our international students. Case-by-case treatment Applications are treated on a case-by-case basis and a number of personal issues may be considered, such as mature students returning to education, care leavers, those with alternative backgrounds and qualifications, or students who did not meet their expected entrance requirements due to adverse situations. International Foundation Studies These courses are taught alongside our Foundation Studies programme by the same highly-qualified staff. They are designed for high-calibre international students who have not studied the prerequisite subjects needed for first year entry or those that have successfully completed 12 years of school education and need an extra year of study. A mixture of subject-specific modules, classes in academic English language and study skills prepares students for university life. Art and Design Foundation Studies This course leads to a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design Foundation Studies that will satisfy the entrance requirements for progression to undergraduate courses in art and design. It is fast-paced, fun, and creative and will encourage you to develop your artistic ability. Our internationally renowned staff will help you grow as an artist over the year, teaching you both theoretical and practical learning in 3D design, fine art, graphic communication, illustration and textiles. You will learn a broad range of skills in the conceptual, practical, historical and theoretical elements of each of these subjects, and then be given the freedom to tailor the course to focus on your preferred area. We have a full roster of ceramics, woodwork, plastics and metal workshops on site, together with a comprehensive digital IT lab and studio set up, with dedicated technicians that can help students achieve an unrivalled level of quality in their creative output. Note that students applying for this course will not be eligible for Higher Education funding as this course is considered a Further Education course. We ensure a smooth transition for students progressing to our BA (Hons) courses (Fine Art, Graphic Communication and Illustration, Industrial Design, and Textile Design).
