WELCOME TO A PLACE WHERE...

A place where your family can go walking in the Yorkshire or Lincolnshire Wolds one weekend and on the beach the next. A place that is UK City of Culture 2017. A place where you can afford to choose between a beamed cottage in a picturesque village or a large family home overlooking the Humber Estuary. Low commute to work times and a place with one of the best independent schools in Yorkshire. Life is made up of so many things, but whatever a great quality of life means to you, we’re pretty sure you’ll find it here.

OUR BIG MOVE

Rachael is a Commercial Property Senior Solicitor at Wilkin Chapman LLP in Grimsby and moved to a village in East Lindsey with her family from Bristol in 2013.

Where did you move from?

My partner Dave and I relocated from Bristol in May 2013 to a beautiful coastal village. We live here with our 18 month old little boy Freddie. Did you have any concerns about moving here?

I relocated to the area when Dave secured a job working for the Lincolnshire Constabulary. I was on maternity leave at the time. I was concerned that I would not be able to find a job as I knew Grimsby would be a different market to a city like Bristol. However, Wilkin Chapman LLP is one of the largest law firms operating out of Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire. It is anticipated that the firm’s turnover will grow 12% by 2017, so they have an ongoing retention and recruitment strategy. The timing of my relocation was perfect, I just sent my CV off and the rest is history.

A MAJOR PLUS IS THAT MY COMMUTE TIME INTO WORK IS MASSIVELY REDUCED.”

How do you feel about the area now?

I know it sounds cliché but the amount of blue sky you can see is amazing. I love the culture of kids growing up having the freedom to play on the beach with sand between their toes. Seeing the sea every morning is magical after growing up 2 hours away from the nearest coast. This area offers everything I am interested in and it’s also not as far away from the big cities like Leeds and Manchester as people might think.

Dave settled in really quickly, in fact we both did as soon as we started work. Now we are enjoying the blue skies, having the beach on our doorstep and the local fétes and markets. How does the quality of life compare to other places you have lived?

One of the major pluses is that my commute into work is massively reduced. It takes me only 30 minutes to drive the 18 miles to work in Grimsby yet in Bristol city centre it took me the same to travel just 3 miles. This really makes a difference when trying to get out of the house with a toddler in tow.

The value for money is outstanding here, particularly in terms of property. We live in a four bed detached house in an idyllic rural area for the same price as our previous 2 bedroom terrace in Bristol. Living here lets you choose where you want to live, not just where you can afford.

What’s the best thing that the area has to offer people who are moving here?

There’s so much more space, less pollution and the lifestyle is so diverse. It’s great that we now have the beach 2 minutes away and the countryside also only a stone’s throw away. Grimsby is perfect for your high street stores and we love the independent boutique and artisan shops at Louth. There are very few places where you can live in a rural location but have such variety on your doorstep.

What hobbies or outdoor activities do you and your family do here?

We’re animal lovers and do enjoy walking our dog, equestrian sports and agricultural shows. Each year we like to visit Burghley Horse Trials in Stamford which is a world renowned equestrian event. I’ve also joined Lincolnshire Rural Housing Association as a non-executive Board member. I was keen to take up a voluntary position in the affordable housing sector as I have a real interest and enthusiasm for the work affordable housing providers do. We meet once a month and we are all really committed to providing high quality affordable housing with an eco-focus to those in need in rural areas.

How good are the schools?

We researched the schools before we arrived and were pleasantly surprised with the excellent Ofsted results. Freddie attends the Red Hen Day Nursery in Legbourne which is situated on a working farm. It’s the perfect place for him as he loves spending time outdoors. Red Hen have won many prestigious awards including the UK ‘Nursery of the Year’ 2013 award and it’s been rated outstanding in every area by Ofsted repeatedly. We’re really lucky, Freddie just loves planting in the gardens, harvesting fruit and vegetables and learning to care for the animals.

When Freddie gets older we would like him to go to the nearby King Edward Grammar in Louth or Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar in Alford. I’ve also heard the Tollbar Academy in Grimsby is really enterprising and achieves some great results so I’m sure we will visit that school too.

Why would you recommend living and working here?

If you want a lifestyle slightly more rural but don’t want to forego a career then relocating here is ideal. This area gives you the perfect balance and my firm gives real opportunities to progress and develop your professional career.

“ WE LIVE IN A FOUR BED DETACHED HOUSE IN AN IDYLLIC RURAL AREA FOR THE SAME PRICE AS OUR PREVIOUS 2 BEDROOM TERRACE IN BRISTOL. ”

YOUR LIFE
“I have lived and worked in Manchester, Sunbury, Paris, Scotland and Toulouse, no doubt the quality of life here is the best I’ve ever encountered.”

What attracted you to the city?

A fabulous job opportunity at the BP site where there has been over £500m invested over the last 6 years! Plus the attraction of a semi-rural location and the potential for much more house for the money. Also, great cycling country.

Did you have any concerns about moving here?

I thought it would be wet most of the time but I’ve been surprised to learn it’s one of the driest places in the country.

How do you feel about the place now?

Absolutely love it. Great friends, great housing, great sport.

How does the quality of life compare to other places you have lived?

No doubt the best standard of living I’ve ever encountered. Traffic is relatively light, housing is great, it’s quiet where we live and there is a real village feel.

What is the best thing that the area has to offer people who are moving here?

West Hull villages – their architecture, their layout, the facilities. Anywhere else in the country, these would be packed with very well-to-do rich people whereas here it’s pretty equitable. Swanland where we live is a perfect village with small shops, an outstanding nursery and school, lovely housing, a brilliant park and a refurbished gastropub across from the pond.

What hobbies or outdoor activities do you and your family do here?

Cycling is excellent with trips to the Wolds, along cycle tracks and quiet roads. Ferriby Squash Club is excellent and there is a very active squash league across the county from Scarborough to Scunthorpe and from Goole to Withernsea.

Have your children settled in well?

Brilliantly. Great network of friends. Very safe area. Cubs is great, dance classes, football training and leagues. They love it!

“Friends visit us who have never been to the area before and are blown away by the coast and countryside and how much we have on our doorstep.”

How good are the local schools?

Swanland nursery is Outstanding. Swanland Primary is Outstanding. My daughter Rachel has Down Syndrome and is in mainstream school at Swanland Primary. The care she receives is second to none and she has developed beyond all expectations thanks to the staff and children at the school.

Why would you recommend living and working here?

Come!! Don’t believe what you have read and forget any preconceptions you have. The housing is excellent, the schooling is outstanding, the opportunities for children’s activities are huge. The villages are picture postcard pretty and the semi-rural location is so calm and relaxing. Access to major networks (road, rail and ports) is excellent. The Humber region is the UK’s energy estuary and will see a continuation of major investment – the area is on the up and so will house prices so get here as fast as you can!!

MY BIG MOVE

“I wake up to views across the Marina every morning, I have a 10 minute walk to work and there are great restaurants all over this region right on my doorstep; so relocating here from Oxford was a great decision.”

Educated at Kings College in London, George was aware of the ambitious growth plans and expertise at Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust and fuelled by the personal recommendations he received about the area, he got in touch with a local property agent and was amazed at what he could get for his money.

Brought up on the south coast in Dorset, George was keen to live near the water again and following a visit to the Freedom

Quay apartments over looking the Marina, he fell in love with the views and was blown away with the quality of life he could get in Hull. Just being a 10 minute walk away from work makes a real difference to George, who previously had to battle with the tube on a daily basis and he finds he has more time to enjoy himself socially, often visiting restaurants in the charming old town and surrounding villages.

OUR BIG MOVE

Grant is Sales Director at Chaucer Foods UK Ltd in Hull who supply to major food producers all over the world. Originally from New Zealand, Grant moved from China to East Yorkshire in 2008.

Where did you move from?

My wife and I relocated from Qingdao in China in 2008 to Eastrington, East Yorkshire when a transfer position arose with Chaucer Foods UK Ltd. As well as the opportunity to develop my career, we were attracted to East Yorkshire as it’s a perfect place for us to raise a family, in a quainter family friendly place.

Did you have any concerns about moving here?

My main concern was if the move to the UK was the right decision for my family, as opposed to going back to New Zealand. I had no concerns moving to Yorkshire as I had regularly visited the area on business and liked it and it helped that my wife Luisa is originally from Blackpool and a Northerner. Luisa had a few concerns about getting back into the workforce after being out of the country for some time.

How do you feel about the area now?

It’s a stunningly beautiful place to be. Living in Eastrington gives us an amazing village life and we have a good network of friends through the school and neighbours. Because of where we live Luisa has set up a new business with her friend Tara who she met through local playgroups. It is called Popsicle Parties and offers fully inclusive children’s themed parties. They are now running two sites at Eastrington and Swanland and looking for more staff. For anyone interested visit www.popsicleparties.co.uk.

How does the quality of life compare to other places you have lived?

You get a lot for your money here in regards to property. We live in a good sized detached modern house which I know would cost double the amount if purchased in the Midlands or further South. The quality of the education is good too. You have a world-class education system here, even better than the schools in New Zealand and with us now having 3 children this is really important to us. Time is valuable and we make the most of it here.

What’s the best thing that the area has to offer people who are moving here?

There’s a better balance of work and play here. It’s so much less crowded, polluted and pressurised than it was in China. And I love the fact it is so much greener here than so many other places. It’s easy to do things outdoors and a great place to bring up children. Having grown up in New Zeland I am used to the outdoors and wanted something similar for my children.

What hobbies or outdoor activities do you and your family do here?

As a family we love cycling, with even Reuben aged 2 joining us on the back of my bike. Within 200 metres from Eastrington we can be on single lane farm roads, it’s really safe too. Elenor, now aged 7, has started playing the guitar and both Elenor and Hollie (aged 5) attend drama, swimming and gymnastics classes locally. Both girls are starting football next year which should be fun to watch.

How good are the schools?

The school is one of the main reasons we chose Eastrington to live. Elenor and Hollie both attend Eastrington Primary School and love it. The school is not too big and not too small, really warm and friendly and they have a strong involvement with the local village community.

Why would you recommend living and working here?

I know historically, Hull in particular, used to be the butt of jokes. That it was the end of the line. That may have been the case in the 1970s but definitely not now. From Humberside International Airport you can get straight to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, seven days a week and then be en-route to anywhere in the world.

Personally, I’ve got so much more out of moving here than I expected. After working in Australasia I wanted to gain European market experience, relocating with Chaucer Foods UK Ltd has not only given me that but also Eastern European, Russian and American trade experience. Strategically, moving here was the best move for my family and my global career. My advice to other ‘would-be’ expats is that emigrating here is probably one of the best choices you could make for your family. Life is good here but be open minded, do your research and get involved with the local community, become part of your new country.

OUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO AS A FAMILY

Cycling in the Yorkshire Wolds

A day trip to the east coast, Whitby or Robin Hoods Bay. We love the sandy and family friendly beaches and the children love the old smugglers’ haunts, rock pooling and crabbing

Visiting Burnby Hall Gardens in Pocklington, where there are 9 acres of beautiful gardens, home to the largest collection of hardy water lilies in natural surroundings in Europe – I love the Maori feather cloak made from Kiwi feathers in the museum and the wooden Tiki statue in the gardens

Our latest love is ‘Spurn Point.’ I can liken it to anywhere in New Zealand, it’s perfect for a sunny day family picnic and to watch the local wildlife and life of the Humber go by

RESTAURANTS THAT TICK ALL THE BOXES AND ALL FOR VERY DIFFERENT REASONS

1884 Dock St Kitchen on Hull Marina for entertaining clients or taking Luisa on a special occasion, we really enjoy their Thursday night Joseph Mellot wine evenings

When did you move here?

The family and I moved over to Pocklington in June 2010 and I started work at Smith & Nephew in Hull in April 2010 which is the global headquarters for the company’s Advanced Wound Management division.

Where did you move from?

We moved from Bedfordshire, where we lived for nearly 7 years.

What attracted you to Pocklington?

Pocklington offers what every family needs. Close to Hull, York, the Yorkshire Wolds and only 40 minutes from the coast. The amenities in Pocklington are within walking distance of our home. In Bedfordshire my old commute took an hour, now I can drive to work in 35 minutes.

Did you have any concerns about moving here?

In my previous role I made many field visits covering this area and team meetings were often in East Yorkshire which certainly changed my perception of the area. My wife and I had the usual worries about moving, the logistics and how my wife and family would settle.

How do you feel about the place now?

The whole family have settled well, there are many attractions for my family to visit. The region offers the city, coast and countryside which enriches our family life. The transport links are good for us; we visit family in Lincolnshire, Devon and Cornwall.

I feel that the people are much more friendly in East Yorkshire, it’s the little things; people like to chat and they smile at you, it is really noticeable from where we used to live.

Chris Lane is Global Marketing Director at Smith & Nephew.
OUR BIG MOVE hull.co.uk/relocate YOUR LIFE

How does the quality of life compare to other places you have lived?

The region offers much more to see and do than other parts of the country - our quality of life as a family has been enhanced, we canoe at Allerthorpe – they hire equipment and the kids have such a great time. We cycle more than ever, there are many routes for families especially in Pocklington, the roads are flat and it makes a great Sunday activity.

What is the best thing that the area has to offer people who are moving here?

The quality of life. With city, coast and countryside, the area has everything to offer a family. Traffic to work is so much better for me, I have halved my journey time.

What hobbies or outdoor activities do you and your family do here?

The children have taken up some new hobbies, my eldest takes drama classes and is learning to play the violin, my middle son takes swimming lessons and the youngest plays tennis. My wife has settled well, made great friends and now sits on the PTA for one of the schools.

Chris Lane, Global Marketing Director, Smith & Nephew

Have your children settled in well?

They have indeed; they have lots of new friends, doing very well at school and have even picked up a little Yorkshire accent.

How good are the local schools?

We researched the schools and they had great Ofsted reports; we were pleased to find that many cap the class sizes. Our boys now go to Pocklington Infant School and Pocklington Community Junior School.

Why would you recommend living and working here?

It is important you come and see East Yorkshire for yourself, make your own opinion and do not be led by preconceptions.

WITH CITY, COAST AND COUNTRYSIDE, THE AREA HAS EVERYTHING TO OFFER A FAMILY.”

Welcome to a placegreat to live

There aren’t many places where you can wake up in a countryside village home, have lunch in the city and then take an afternoon stroll along rugged coastline. Here you can.

The stunning countryside of the Lincolnshire and Yorkshire Wolds makes up a huge proportion of the area, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year to walk, ride, cycle and run. The array of characterful inns, fine churches and magnificent country houses that pepper our countryside offer a unique charm and tradition. You can even take a step back in time and experience the grand lifestyles of wealthy landowners with a visit to Thornton Abbey and Normanby Hall in North Lincolnshire or Burton Agnes, Burton Constable, Sewerby Hall and Sledmere House in East Yorkshire.

Wander, the Art on the Yorkshire Wolds Way is the UK’s first public arts project on a national trail, creating landmark art installations, including ten warrior figures carved in lime stained oak which ‘guard’ the work.

The roads of the Lincolnshire Wolds are also particularly popular with motorcyclists and the area is home to Cadwell Park, one of the UK’s top motor racing circuits.

If you prefer blue to green then head to the water and explore miles of stunning heritage coastline. You’ll find stunning seaside locations that offer everything from independent antique stores and gourmet pubs to candy floss, fresh seafood and all the fun of the fair.

Our region offers a rare chance to live by the sea whilst still being in easy commute of the city and many major businesses. Whether you choose to live by the sea or just visit on a sunny afternoon, you’ll love having the seaside within easy reach all year round.

Take a trip to the Humber Bridge Country Park Nature Reserve and follow one of the three nature trails in the woods. You can also visit the Water’s Edge Visitor Centre, set in a 86 acre Country Park, to explore the unique environment of the Humber Estuary.

Scunthorpe’s Normanby Hall Country Park is set in 300 acres of parkland and landscaped gardens. Set within a Victorian walled garden, Normanby Hall has a costume gallery, period rooms and a farming museum. Walk through the outstanding deer park, where herds of red and fallow deer roam freely.

A designated ‘Area of Outstanding National Beauty’, the Lincolnshire Wolds naturally offer many scenic routes. The views are truly spectacular and on a clear day it’s even possible to see the Grimsby Dock Tower, the Humber Bridge and Lincoln Cathedral.

World renowned artist David Hockney was so inspired by the scenery of the Yorkshire Wolds that he swapped the sunshine and warm seas of Los Angeles to move to the area. His collection of Wolds inspired images have been showcased at a major exhibition at the Royal Academy in London, which was the 2nd most visited exhibition after Monet in the past 30 years.

The artwork is stunning, but nothing beats seeing it with your own eyes, or indeed living amongst it!

OUR BIG MOVE

When Andrew Pearson was offered a place at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art at just 18 years old, it was an opportunity too valuable to miss.

Keen to pursue his theatrical career, Andrew left his home in the charming market town of Beverley and spent 15 years enjoying success in London, including landing a role in the popular ITV series, The Ruth Rendell Mysteries.

Motivated by his desire to take control of his own career, Andrew decided to return to his East Yorkshire roots where he could maximise his talents and give something back to a place he feels so passionately about, culminating in being part of the team that delivered Hull’s winning UK City of Culture 2017 bid.

Now working as a theatrical director and producer, Andrew has also co-founded two new venues, Fruit and resident theatre company Kardomah94, and establishd the acclaimed Heads Up Festival.

Living in Swanland with his wife Kaysie and children Charlie and Stella, Andrew enjoys life back in Hull and finds its accessibility in relation to other cities particularly beneficial given that he works on projects both in this country and beyond.

Being just a two and a half hour train journey from London means that Andrew has more time to spend with his family, so when he’s not busy on projects for stage, screen and radio, he’s often found with the dog on the picturesque Beverley Westwood.

OUR BIG MOVE

Where are you moving from?

A village on the outskirts of Chesterfield on the edge of the Pennines, between Chesterfield and Sheffield.

Do you have any concerns about moving here?

Moving to a completely new area is always a big change and it takes a while to source out which are the best places to eat out and shop. Our biggest concern is that we are moving away from family and good friends to an area where we knew nobody initially, I have made new friends through work and I’m sure I’ll make a lot more it’s a really friendly place. I had the impression that the area was very flat which is a big change for someone raised near the Pennines and the extent of flooding following the storm surge in December was a big concern, yet having explored further I now realise that there are actually a few hills and a lot more coastline than Derbyshire.

What is attracting you to the area?

The rural landscape and village life combined with the low levels of light pollution and proximity to the coast. We are moving here because we want to not because we should.

How do you think the quality of life will compare to other places you have lived?

One of the first things that struck us is how much more we can buy for our money here compared to Chesterfield, there are some very nice big houses and we have our eye on in a wide variety of styles and locations. We are really looking forward to what we know will be a lifeenhancing move.

What’s the best thing that the area has to offer people who are moving here?

A rural location that is still close to the city, with excellent transport links and property prices that are very good value compared to most areas throughout the UK.

Are there any more hobbies or outdoor activities that you will do here?

We are both keen gardeners, relocating here gives us a chance to move to a property with more land for the same cost. I am a keen astronomer, a hobby that is badly affected by the glare of the lights from Sheffield and Chesterfield. I’m really looking forward to being able to see the sky without the glare from city lights obscuring things. My wife is a keen wildlife photographer so she is really looking forward to relocating closer to the coastal nature reserves, you can’t get much further from the coast than Derbyshire. We’re both really looking forward to trying out all the local restaurants to find our favourite.

Stuart is a Process Engineer for Greenergy and is relocating to North East Lincolnshire from the Pennines with his wife.
Rimac Nature Reserve

RELOCATING HERE GIVES US THE CHANCE TO LIVE IN A RURAL VILLAGE WITH MORE LAND FOR OUR MONEY AND BE CLOSE TO THE COAST.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE THINGS TO DO AS A COUPLE IN THE AREA

Exploring the countryside by bike and really enjoying the landscape at our own pace

Walking in the Lincolnshire Wolds, taking in the grandeur of the hills to the quaint streams, what’s not to like?

Visiting the nature reserves, especially the seals at Donna Nook and the seabirds at Bempton Cliffs

Whiskey drinking on the windswept beaches here

Photographing everything from the countryside, the coast, Spurn Point to the maritime heritage and the Humber Bridge by night

BUSINESS IN THE REGION

The UK’s Energy Estuary

The Humber is the UK’s Energy Estuary. It has powered the UK economy for decades, bringing everything from food to freight, coal to cars, passengers to petroleum. In fact the Humber is the UK’s busiest port complex.

Businesses continue to invest and thrive in the Humber because of our UK coastal location and global connectivity - from marine engineering and logistics companies, to chemical and food manufacturers.

We’ve seen investments as diverse as Japanese chemicals company Nippon Gohsei producing and distributing it’s world-leading packaging product throughout Europe, Crown Paints opening a logistics hub to deliver paint to clients around the world and Morrisons investing in new operations for seafood products.

A wave of green power is bringing new life to the Humber, with investments spanning, wind, biofuel, biomass and tidal.

The extent of energy investments means there is a thirst for fresh talent and new energy to help us realise our growth ambitions, from engineers and chemists, to supply chain and legal knowledge in companies such as Associated British Ports, BP, Greenergy, Singleton Birch, Vivergo Fuels, Siemens, Waldeck Engineering and specialist engineers Spencer Group.

A fabulous food region

As well as our ports connectivity we have rich and fertile land around the Humber Estuary, which means agriculture and food manufacturing play a major role in our economy.

We are now home to over 500 food businesses employing around 28,500 people, spanning entrepreneurial agri-tech companies to logistics companies distributing tasty dishes throughout the world.

Some of the biggest and most successful names in the food industry are proud to call us home, with William Jackson Food Group, Cranswick plc, Chaucer Foods UK Ltd, Pipers Crisps, New Covent Garden Soup, Golden Wonder, Youngs Seafood, Greencore and Aunt Bessies all based here.

Our Entrepreneurs

The Humber region is a great place for entrepreneurs who want to kick-start or grow their business, with many going from strength to strength, even in the current financial climate.

This is testament to the opportunity for growth here and the business-driven networks focused on nurturing new talent and exploiting opportunities. Global trade has been a feature of our economy for decades. Now more and more of our entrepreneurial businesses are exploiting international markets, trading products, skills and ideas all over the world.

RIGHT TIME RIGHT PLACE

After graduating in 2009 with a degree in jewellery design from Central St Martins in London Daniella had two choices – look for a job in London or return home to Cleethorpes and turn her passion of jewellery into a thriving business. After initially operating from her family home and producing a small collection for her mother’s friends, Daniella has had record business growth. Her online customers come from as far afield as the USA, Greece, the Netherlands and the Scandinavian countries.

Daniella has created a name for herself through beautifully unique handcrafted designs, encapsulating timeless elegance and style. Her jewellery pieces have been featured in Vogue, Elle and the Sunday Times Style magazine and are being worn by the likes of Kate Moss, Chloe Moretz and Natasha Khan (lead singer of Bat for Lashes) – and this is name dropping just a select few!

With support and encouragement of her family Daniella opened up her own boutique studio and showroom at Cleethorpes Meridian Point Craft Centre in 2012. Daniella Draper Jewellery is a perfect example of how you can build a credible international brand outside of London, in fact she is taken so seriously in the fashion world that she regularly has fashion editors and stylists knocking on the door, including the international fashion designer Alice Temperley. Daniella puts her heart and soul into the collections she creates, ensures consistency and delivers excellent customer service.

“Starting up my jewellery business in Cleethorpes was the best thing I ever did, the local support I have received has been amazing and helped me achieve my dream of running my own business. Innovation and enterprise is really encouraged here so all you need to add is a little determination and hard work”.

Daniella is passionate about giving back to the community, uses a local website developer, photographer and videographer and is grateful for the local media support of The Journal, The Grimsby Telegraph, BBC Look North and Estuary TV.

“Who else can say that they make what they love, have fun and earn an income whilst doing it in an economically viable and truly beautiful location. Cleethorpes is an area ‘on the up’ with lots of independent boutiques, niche delis, restaurants and coffee shops popping up. The area is booming and becoming more affluent, it’s a great place to be”.

Due to the passion and commitment Daniella shows to her clients and customers she has been able to expand the business further and in 2014 opened up her very own flagship store in Cleethorpes’ bohemian Sea View Street. The future is sparkling for Daniella Draper as she looks to expand her collection and retail operations.

Getting Here.

Not only do we face Northern Europe, we are in the centre of the UK just 200 miles from London, Edinburgh and Rotterdam, 100 miles from Manchester and less than an hour from Leeds, York, Lincoln and Sheffield. There are good road and rail connections to most major cities and easy access to Europe and beyond through the ports and airport.

P&O Ferries operate a daily passenger service to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge, handling almost half of all sea passengers on the East Coast of the UK.

8 direct train services to and from London each day with First Hull Trains, in as little as 2 ½ hours, means our own capital is in easy reach too.

We also have our own airport directly connecting passengers to over 30 destinations and a 3 times daily KLM shuttle service to Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. This means that a flight from Humberside can actually take you to 800 destinations worldwide. Other airports within easy reach that run regular flights with discount airlines include Doncaster Sheffield and Leeds Bradford. We are also around 2 hours from Manchester Airport.
