DAY 01 ARRIVAL HANOI Arrive in Hanoi, the modern capital of Vietnam. Check into your hotel and then you will be free to relax and take time to explore the city on your own. Overnight in Hanoi. DAY 02 HANOI – HALONG In the morning you will visit Ho Chi Minh’s famous Mausoleum modelled after Lenin’s Mausoleum in Moscow, the One Pillar Pagoda and the legendary Temple of Literature with its massive stone turtles. That afternoon you will take a trip to Ha Long Bay – the bay of 1,000 islets. Overnight in Halong.

DAY 03 HALONG – HANOI You will embark on a 4-hour boat trip cruise through the magnificent Ha Long Bay, peppered with its thousands of limestone islets spectacularly rising from the calm, crystal-clear waters. Hidden amongst the islets is Sung Sot Grotto with its marvellous stalactites and stalagmites where you will take a stroll through these magnificent natural wonders. You will also have the chance to eat fresh seafood from the bay. After this natural expedition we will take you back to Hanoi just in time to enjoy a show at the world-famous water puppet theatre. Overnight in Hanoi. DAY 04 HANOI – HOALU – TAM COC – HA NOI – LAO CAI You will visit Hoa Lu to marvel at the Temples of King Dinh and King Le (10th Century), magnificent quiet structures in the countryside. The area is also full of caves and grottoes which you will have the chance to explore. The beauti-

ful landscape here will make its title “Ha Long Bay on Land” self-explanatory. In the afternoon we will drive you back to Hanoi, then after dinner take the overnight train to Lao Cai - a rolling ride through Vietnam’s lush countryside. Overnight on train. DAY 05 LAO CAI – SAPA Arrive early in the morning at Lao Cai train station where your guide will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Sapa. This green exotic trekking hub offers exciting hiking opportunities. You will pass through Lao Chai village of the Black H’mong, Ta Van village of the Giay and Ta Phin Village of Red Dzao. All the while, you will see extensive landscapes of rice green steppes and lush rolling hills. Overnight in Sapa. DAY 06 SAPA This morning we will take you on a guided walk to Cat Cat village (H’mong minority) and to Ham Rong Mountain where there is a wonderful botanical garden and breathtaking panoramic view of Sapa. You will also have an opportunity to explore the countryside and shop in the local ethnic minority market. Overnight in Sapa. DAY 07 SAPA – LAOCAI – HANOI You will have most of this day to explore or hike, relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery, interact with the friendly locals and shop. Overnight on train back to Hanoi. DAY 08 HANOI – DANANG – HOI AN Arrive in the early morning in Hanoi to

DAY 11 SAIGON – VINH LONG – CAN THO We transfer you to Can Tho in the Mekong Delta, stopping en-route at the small city of Vinh Long, and then taking a cruise along the Mekong River to see the Cai Be floating market. Along the way, you will visit a pop rice factory and a coconut candy workshop, and also sample fresh seasonal fruits on a local island. We finish the day’s tour in Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta. Overnight in Can Tho. DAY 12 CAN THO – CAI RANG – SAIGON We will take you on a cruise and see Cai Rang floating market - the largest in the Mekong Delta. After this tour, you will make your way back to Saigon. DAY 13 SAIGON After your final breakfast in Vietnam, you are free to do some last minute shopping and exploring before transferring to the airport for your return flight. catch a flight to Danang, the largest city in Central Vietnam. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to Hoi An. In the afternoon you will go on a guided walking tour of Hoi An, a former trading post of seafaring Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese merchants, a centre for traditional architecture, tailored clothes and beautiful modern art. Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 09 HOI AN – DANANG – HUE After a short stop at Danang’s Cham Museum, you will continue to Hue with a break on the Hai Van Pass, overlooking the scenic Lang Co lagoon. Af-

ter checking into your hotel you will embark on a tour to see the most iconic sites of the ancient capital: visiting Khai Dinh tomb, one of the last emperors of Vietnam and Tu Duc’s extravagant tomb and Thien Mu, a pagoda that houses one of the biggest bells in the country. Overnight in Hue. DAY 10 HUE – SAIGON Today you are free to relax, shop or perhaps stroll through the pedestrian area of the Imperial city. DAY 01 ARRIVAL SAIGON After your arrival in Saigon, meander through the historical landmarks that the bustling metropolis has to offer. First, to the Reunification Palace, then to the French constructed Notre Dame Cathedral, City Hall, the ivory white Opera House and then off to famed French architect Gustave Eiffel’s Central Post Office. After a tour of these western-influenced buildings, you will see the Taoist Jade Emperor Pagoda. Finally, there will be an opportunity to shop at Saigon’s iconic Ben Thanh market. Overnight in Saigon. DAY 02 SAIGON – CAI BE Start off your day with a relaxing Tai Chi lesson in the park before making your way to Cai Be, a small city in the Mekong Delta famous for its exotic fresh fruits. From here, you will take a Mekong river cruise on the Song Xanh Sampan, a deluxe one cabin private cruise. Cruising to Can Tho, you’ll marvel at the lush landscape and let yourself be pampered with the attention of the friendly cruise staff. Overnight on board. DAY 03 CAN THO – SAIGON Continue your cruise on Song Xanh Sampan to Can Tho and from there you will return by road to Saigon. DAY 05 HOI AN Hoi An is known for its rustic architecture, easily walkable streets, eclectic art galleries and tailored clothes. Explore the historical houses on a guided walking tour and be enchanted by the atmosphere this colonial town still exudes. In the afternoon you will have a chance to see some of the oldest monuments in Vietnam at My Son, where the Champa Empire once ruled (their legacy lives on in their beautifully built stupas). Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 06 HOI AN All day at leisure. You can indulge in a refreshing spa treatment or simply relax at the beach. There are even two world championship golf courses nearby for those who feel like taking a swing. Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 07 HOI AN – HUE After transferring from Hoi An, visit the ancient capital of Hue, the site of hundreds of cultural relics, historical buildings and the Perfume River. You will visit the Cham Museum, the Forbidden City, the Imperial Tomb of Emperor Tu Duc and the Vinh Tu garden house, with an introduction by the house owner. You will also have an opportunity to visit a village where incense is made. Overnight in Hue. DAY 08 HUE – HANOI For your second day in Hue, you continue your tour of cultural landmarks with the famous 7-storey Thien Mu Pagoda and majestic tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, after which you will fly to Vietnam’s modern capital, Hanoi. DAY 09 HANOI Touring our cultural and historical hub, you will visit the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex, the Tran Quoc Pagoda (on Ho Tay Lake), visit the Temple of Literature (the site of Vietnam’s first university), the Museum of Ethnology, and the legendary Hoan Kiem Lake, where Emperor Le Loi received a magical sword from a golden turtle. You’ll finish off the day with a market visit and Vietnamese cooking class at Pham Anh Tuyet ancient house. DAY 10 HANOI – HALONG BAY Take a ride out to Halong Bay aboard a private cruise boat. Ponder upon your mystical experiences among the hundreds of green limestone islets that offer a rewarding end to a memorable trip through Vietnam. Overnight on board. DAY 11 HALONG BAY – NINH BINH Enjoy the beautiful scenery & fresh seafood, and take a swim through the crystal clear waters. After the cruise, you will head to Ninh Binh, an area also known as ‘Halong Bay on land’. Overnight in Ninh Binh. DAY 12 NINH BINH In the morning enjoy the scenery of Tam Coc caves and ancient temples, & see the farmers working the green rice fields of the Red River Delta.

DAY 13: NINH BINH - MAI CHAU Today we take a scenic drive through Mai Chau valley which boasts some spectacular scenery. Passing through authentic ethnic minority villages, you will see how the centuries-old traditions are still continued even today. Overnight in Mai Chau. DAY 14: MAI CHAU - HANOI In the morning you are free to wander around the villages to get in touch with the Thai ethnic people, before we depart for Hanoi, stopping en-route at Hoa Binh, the capital of the Muong ethnic people. Back in Hanoi you will have reached the end of a magical and memorable trip, as we transfer you to the airport for your flight home.

DAY 01 ARRIVAL HANOI After your arrival in Hanoi, you will join a cyclo tour through Hanoi Old Quarter, stopping off at Lan Ong Traditional Medicine Store. Here, you will learn about the century-old healing powers of natural plants and herbs. Afterwards, proceed to Hang Be market and see on sale the fresh herbs which are used in medical treatments and health foods. Finish off the day’s sightseeing by sampling delicious chicken simmered in Chinese medicine soup (Ga tan Thuoc Bac). Overnight in Hanoi. DAY 02 HANOI - HALONG After breakfast, we take you on a half day sightseeing tour in Hanoi to include the Ho Chi Minh complex, Temple of Literature and a glance at Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple. For lunch we recommend you try Cha Ca La Vong – a speciality of Hanoi. After this culinary delight, we head south towards Halong Bay. En-route, we stop in Hai Duong to visit a local rice wine factory. The wine is very strong, and popular with farmers. A cup of wine in the evening helps them sleep well at night! DAY 03 HALONG - HUE You will embark on a 4-hour cruise around the magnificent Ha Long Bay, peppered with its thousands of natural limestone islets spectacularly rising from the calm, crystal-clear waters. During the trip you’ll have an opportunity to sample fresh seafood from the bay. After this breath-taking beautiful experience, we return to Hanoi in time to catch your onward flight to Hue. Overnight in Hue.

DAY 04 HUE Today you will embark on a tour to see the most iconic sites of the ancient capital: visiting the ancient Citadel, the tombs of Khai Dinh, Tu Duc and Thien Mu - a pagoda that houses one of the biggest bells in the country. For lunch, taste the local specialities such as: Banh Nam, Banh Beo, Banh Khoai, before stopping at Dong Ba market. To finish the day, enjoy a royal dinner at the ancient Vinh Tu Garden House. Overnight in Hue. DAY 05 HUE - HOI AN In the morning we drive you to Hoi An, passing over the spectacular Hai Van pass that marks the climate border between Northern and Southern Vietnam. In the afternoon, take a guided walking tour of Hoi An’s old town. As a highlight you will learn the secrets of the local speciality, ‘Cao Lau’ - a traditional noodle dish that can only be prepared with the water from one special well in order to give it its unique flavour! Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 06 HOI AN We start the day travelling to Tra Que Organic Vegetable Village, where local farmers work their organic gardens in centuries-old tradition. At a Tra Que’s family house you join a cookery class where you will learn the traditional ways of preparing and cooking Vietnamese food from scratch. flight to Nha Trang. Take an excursion by boat to Nha Trang Bay, where you have the chance to swim & snorkel in the crystal clear water. After the boat trip, visit Dam market where different kinds of fresh and dry seafoods and fish sauces are sold. Overnight in Nha Trang. DAY 08 NHA TRANG – DALAT In the early morning take a cyclo ride to Tran Phu Bridge where you can take pictures of the fishermen selling their catches with the local traders. Afterwards we transfer to Dalat, where we visit the last Emperor’s summer residence and Truc Lam Zen Monastery - the largest Zen Monastery in Vietnam. You will also have the chance to sample the produce from a local vineyard. Overnight in Da Lat. DAY 09 DALAT – SAIGON While transferring overland to Saigon

we will stop at Bao Loc, a destination best known for its silk and tea production. Also, you will get to know the secret behind the famous Coffee ‘Chon’ - a local speciality! Overnight in Saigon. DAY 10 SAIGON –CU CHI In the morning we visit the Cu Chi Tunnels; an important base for the Vietcong during the American War, because of its strategic location. After lunch, we drive to Chinatown to visit Cho Lon, the large wholesale market and the Museum of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine (FITO). Overnight in Saigon. DAY 11 SAIGON - VINH LONG - CAN THO In the morning, drive to Cai Be to visit a popcorn, cake and rice paper making family before visiting the lively floating market. After Lunch continue by boat towards

Vinh Long province and learn about life in the delta and the diverse fishing techniques. During a relaxing afternoon walk, we will stop by a local orchard where you can taste a variety of sweet fruits that are grown here. Continue by boat to visit a fish sauce factory before driving to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho. DAY 12 CAN THO - SAIGON After visiting the floating market in the morning we will enjoy lunch at Mrs Muoi Xiem’s local restaurant which is nationally famous for its special pancakes. Transfer back to Saigon. Overnight in Saigon. DAY 13 SAIGON Today you will be visiting the most famous spots in Saigon, including Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, the War Museum & Ben Thanh Market. After the tour, transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.

DAY 01 ARRIVAL HANOI After arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. You will later embark on a 2 hours cyclo ride to explore the central market of Dong Xua and then visit the famous Old Quarter. Overnight in Hanoi. DAY 03 HANOI – HALONG BAY Transfer to Halong Bay in the morning and board your cruise ship. After cruising to the east of Halong Bay, enjoy a relaxing tour of guided kayaking or swimming in Vung Ha area, boasting isolated beaches and nature at its best before cruising into the geological park of amazing Bai Tu Long Bay. DAY 04: HALONG BAY Start the day with Tai Chi - physical movements designed for relaxation, balance and health - on the sundeck of

DAY 05: HALONG BAY Take an early guided tour of Sung Sot cave, the most beautiful cave with many photo opportunities. DAY 08 HOI AN – DANANG – DALAT A morning flights gets you away from the coast and flies you to Dalat located in the central highlands. At arrival you get introduced to the landmarks of this cool climated little town. Visit Dalat’s colourful market features locally-made specialities such as artichoke tea, candied fruits, coffee and the finest cool climate vegetables and flowers in Vietnam. Visit the former summer residence of Vietnam’s last emperor, Bao Dai and the old trainstation that features an old steam train still in use until today. Overnight in Dalat.

DAY 09 DALAT – MUI NE Today you are headed to the coast at Mui Ne. Jump on your bicycle as you will get over 900 meters of descent on this 90+ km ride to Mui Ne as you wind through pine and jungle forested valleys into the tropical climate below. The ride goes through small minority villages and jungle forested valleys to the beautiful beaches below. The first section of riding is through coffee plantations and forest and includes a 5 kilometer uphill climb to get you warmed up. This is followed by plenty of down hill and rolling sections. A final long downhill pass is completed before the road flattens out with a long cruise to Highway 1, where the ride ends our vehicle transports you the rest of the way to Mui Ne. Overnight in Mui Ne.

DAY 10 MUI NE Enjoy some refreshing days at the beach. There are several optional excursions that can also be arranged directly on spot or maybe you want to challenge yourself in wind- or kitesurfing in this world class PWA spot. Overnight in Mui Ne.

DAY 01 ARRIVAL HANOI After your arrival to Hanoi begin the day with a visit to the Temple of Literature, which was Vietnam’s first university. The peace and serenity of this place is inspiring. After that it’s the One Pillar Pagoda, dating back to the 11th century. Close to the Pagoda is the Ho Chi Minh Memorial Complex, where you will first visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (only from the outside) and the Ho Chi Minh Stilt House where Ho Chi Minh lived during his presidential days until his death. Then, head off to the Hoan Kiem Lake located in the heart of Hanoi. The lake contains an islet with a tiny Tortoise Pagoda. Continue the walk to the Old Quarter which is a fascinating area of narrow alleys and shophouses. Each street is named after the merchandise traditionally sold here. The goods range from fabrics and crafts to medicines and tombstones. In the afternoon rest and relax until the evening, when you will visit the famous Water Puppet Show. Overnight in Hanoi. DAY 02 HANOI – HALONG BAY Transfer to Halong Bay in the morning where you will board your cruise ship. The day starts with a cruise among the emerald waters and craggy limestone cliffs of Halong Bay. Stop and explore one of the many caves in this area. Sail past floating villages, watch fishermen casting their nets, observe the rhythm of the daily life on the bay and at the end of the day enjoy the sun majestically setting over the bay. Overnight on board. DAY 03 HALONG BAY – NINH BINH Return to the pier. Disembark your cruise and transfer to Ninh Binh. Check-in to your hotel and enjoy free time at leisure. Overnight in Ninh Binh.

DAY 04 NINH BINH Set off to explore some of Ninh Binh’s marvels. Start off your exploration by visiting Trang An by rowing boat. Trang An includes ranges of towering limestone mountains, dry caves, under water caves, flooded primeval forests, rivers and a very diverse ecosystem. During the journey through Trang An, you will travel through 12 caves and 3 temples where the scenery seems to be just unreal. Continue ont to Hoa Lu, the first capital of Vietnam during the Dinh (968-980) and early Le (980-1009) Dynasties. The atmosphere in the temple is evocative of the heyday of the royal citadel with palaces; pavilions and temples, which existed thousands of years ago. End the day with a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda, a cave pagoda built in the 15th century. You will start a walking tour across a stone bridge and start hiking up the mountains on the stone steps, passing through the dark cave, finding yourself on top of the mountains with private view of the surroundings. Overnight in Ninh Binh. DAY 05 NINH BINH – PU LUONG After the breakfast, leave Ninh Binh for the Pu Luong Natural Reserve. The route chose allows you to discover astonishing landscapes, made up of fields of sugar canes and rice plantations. After lunch in the Sai village, you will be inserted more and more into the reserve, until the moment when you will start your trek. Walk nearly 3 hours before arriving at the Thai village named Hang and where you will spend the evening in company of a family of the Thai Minorities. Enjoying their hospitality, you will be able to discover and deeply understand the culture and the way of life of this ethnic minority. Overnight at a homestay.

DAY 06 PU LUONG – HANOI – LAO CAI The daily life here starts early, it will be interesting for you to get up at the first sign of day light and take part in the activities in the morning, or take a stroll around Hang village before having breakfast with our new Thai friends. Start trekking at 8:00 am. Today you will be walking for approximately 5 to 6 hours. The first section is hard with some steep climbs and stream crossings. The second stage is glorious with beautiful views of the valley, rice terraces, rich rain forests, and meandering streams. After lunch head back to Hanoi and boeard a train to Lao Cai. Overnight in the train.

DAY 07 LAO CAI SAPA On your early arrival transfer up mountain to Sa Pa. Make a soft trekking tour to visit the village of Ta Phin. Ta Phin is inhabited by the Red Dzao people known for their red headscarves and their handicraft skills. It is a good opportunity to get an insight into the daily life and routines of this ethnic tribe. Continue the tour and visit the Ham Rong Mountain and San May (Cloud Yard). Overnight in Sapa. DAY 08 SAPA – HANOI Travel by jeep from Sa Pa to the village of Lao Chai where the trekking tour begins. Visit the Hmong, Dzay and Dzao people and oberserve their daily life.

Furthermore, enjoy the spectacular scenery of terraced rice paddies, waterfalls and small bamboo forests that are unique for the northern region. From Ta Van continue to Giang Ta Chai, another minority village populated by Hmong and Dzay. Then transfer by jeep back to Sa Pa. In the evening board the train, that takes you back to Hanoi. DAY 01 ARRIVAL SAIGON Transfer to your hotel and free time at leisure. Overnight in Saigon. DAY 02 SAIGON – CU CHI Spend the morning exploring Saigon, the commecial hub of Vietnam. Your guide will give you insights into the history of the city and its monuments, such as the Reunification Palace and the sobering War Remnants Museum. Explore Ho Chi Minh’s French colonial history, when it was known as Saigon, along Dong Khoi Street. Go to the Notre Dame Cathedral and the French designed Post Office, two of the best examples of the motherland’s architecture. After lunch you will get to enjoy a scenic speedboat ride along Saigon River to Cuchi Tunnels. Upon arrival to Cu Chi you will spend the next couple of hours exploring the

maze of tunnels, learning about the history and creeping down into the tunnel. Also on display are various mantraps and the remains of an American tank as well as numerous bomb craters made by 500 pound bombs dropped by B52 bombers. Sip on some cold drinks and enjoy the views along Saigon River at Sunset as you are heading back to Saigon. Overnight in Saigon. DAY 03 SAIGON – BEN TRE From Saigon we drive to Ben Tre province, home to lush fruit orchards, rivers and a former stronghold of Viet Cong during the Vietnam War. Upon our arrival in Cho Lach village, we discover the area, we cycle along the banks of Hau river. The river banks are laden with coconut palms, rice fields, orchards and stilted houses and the water is teeming with boats of all shapes and sizes. We pass through fruit orchards, stop-

This evening we settle in with a hospitable local family for dinner and an overnight stay to experience river life. Overnight at a local homestay. DAY 05 BEN TRE – TRA VINH On our second cycling day we will venture deeper into the Mekong Delta. We continue cycling in the Ben Tre province, where we will pass through coconut gardens to remote villages and stopping for coffee where you can take a walk around to experience locals in their daily activities. Then continue to cycle to Huong My village where we will enjoy lunch. After lunch, we cycle through the homeland of coconuts to the city of Tra Vinh. Tra Vinh is considered the homeland to Khmer (around 35% of the population) and there are numerous Khmer temples in the province. We will visit the Ba Om

Lake and its adjacent temple. Continue riding through rural Khmer villages, stop en route to visit local Khmer families and take some photos of Buddhist Theravada temples. Overnight in Tra Vinh. DAY 05 TRA VINH – CAI BE Take a short transfer to Cai Be, where you will start your cruising journey on the Mekong River. Before boarding visit some local Coco-Candy and rice processing factories to learn more what can be produced with a plethora of natural ingredients. After boarding the cruise ship will set sail towards Cho Lach and you can enjoy your lunch while gently cruising the mighty Mekong river. After slipping into a smaller canal, a unique opportunity opens for a glimpse of the very varied life on the banks as well as on the water. On a land excursion visit a village on the banks of river Mang Thit. Appreciate the way of life and hospitality of the lo-

cal people. Visit of the orchard and rice fields nearby. Boarding back rest on the deck and enjoy the sunset. For the night the cruise ship sets anchor just downstream from the little Tra On floating market. Overnight on board. DAY 06 CAN THO – SAIGON Get up for breakfast as early as 06:30, as the ship is resuming its cruise by visiting the Tra On floating market. The ship then departs towards Can Tho. On arrival in Cai Rang you will visit the floating market. The hustle and bustle of this colorful market will mesmerize you. After that return to the Ninh Kieu pier and transfer back to Saigon. DAY 01 ARRIVAL VIENTIANE On arrival in Vientiane, you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Time permitting, your half day city tour enables you to see the major temples of Vientiane including the oldest, Wat Sisaket, a temple of thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. We also visit a Lao national icon, The Luang Stupa, and we stop to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. Overnight in Vientiane. DAY 02 VIENTIANE – UDOMXAY – MUANG LA Following the morning at leisure, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight up to Udomxay. Here we have the chance to visit the intriguing Pra Xack Kham Temple with its sacred Buddha image. This 400 year old legendary statue is said to have many supernatural powers, and is widely worshipped among the faithful local Buddhists. We stop in Muang La famous for its natural hot springs - for the night. No activities are planned for the rest of the day so you can stroll around the village or just relax at the riverside retreat enjoying a massage, or spend some time in the hot springs. Overnight in Muang La. DAY 03 MUANG LA Today, we explore the local area and undertake an easy trek around the beautiful surrounding countryside visiting the numerous ethnic hill tribes that reside in the area. The evening can be spent back at the resort relaxing in the natural hot springs, taking a traditional

massage and enjoying the excellent local Lao cuisine in the restaurant. Overnight in Muang La. DAY 04 MUANG LA - LUANG PRABANG Today’s drive south takes you through some of the most stunning mountain scenery you will find in South East Asia, with plenty of opportunities to stop off at the various Khmu and H’mong villages along the way. We will reach Luang Prabang by mid-afternoon, where you have the rest of the day to relax and take in this enchanting city. You may wish to spend the evening exploring the local night market. Overnight in Luang Prabang. DAY 05 LUANG PRABANG Your full day city tour begins after breakfast, with a visit to the Royal Palace Museum which hosts a range of interesting artifacts. We then take a look around the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground – a classic example of traditional Laotian architecture. Today, we also visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham. Following lunch, we visit the Arts and Ethnology Centre to to learn about Laos’ many ethnic cultures, before we head out of town to see the weaving villages of Ban Xiengkhong and Ban Xienglek. We then return to the city for a visit to Wat Mai. This is followed by a climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a panoramic view of the city and the Mekong River at sunset. The tour ends after a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a great selection of handmade textiles made by local and hill tribe

the afternoon, we embark on a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which provides some breathtaking views of the tranquil countryside, then on to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves - two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes that were left by pilgrims. Along the way, we stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where they make the local rice wine. On our return, we disembark the boat to visit traditional villages and continue taking a short drive to Ban Phanom, a village famous for its hand weaving. Overnight in Luang Prabang. DAY 07 LUANG PRABANG Walk in the footsteps of the French explorer Dr. P Neiss, who once surveyed

the local tribes around Luang Prabang. First visit the Elephant village for a brief introduction into the great work that is done there, talk with the veterinarian in the hospital and feed the awe-inspiring elephants. Later take an elephant ride through the countryside to a pretty waterfall and stop for a traditional Lao lunch. After a short 1.5km trek arrive at the Nam Khan River, board a charming bamboo raft, complete with pillows and mats and elegantly sip tea or coffee. DAY 01 ARRIVAL PHNOM PENH Arrive in Phnom Penh, to be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. The city was once considered one of the most beautiful in the Orient, and despite its recent turbulent history it still retains a colonial charm. A city tour includes the National Museum, the Silver Pagoda, the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom. Overnight in Phnom Penh. DAY 02 PHNOM PENH After breakfast visit the infamous Tuol Sleng Museum of Genocidal Crimes and Cheung Ek - better known as the Killing Fields, where thousands of Cambodians were tortured and killed during the Khmer Rouge regime. DAY 03 PHNOM PENH – BANLUNG Transfer to the airport after breakfast for the morning flight to Banlung, capital of Rattanakiri Province. This is nicknamed ‘the Red City’ because of the omnipresent laterite soil. Drive by Jeep on rough roads to explore the surrounding waterfalls at Teuk Cha Ong and Okatchang. Overnight in Banlung. DAY 04 BANLUNG Drive north towards Laos and the village of Taveng, then cross the volcanic lava field of Veyrum Plang. Travelling north the landscape changes from primary to cleared forest, bamboo and bush. Stop off at some Kroeung villages en-route. The Kroeung people practise the curious custom of erecting bachelor houses which stand on long bamboo poles. These houses remain in place until the young man finds a wife and only then will the unusual

structures be destroyed. The time of year to see them is usually from February to August. Return to the lodge for dinner. Overnight in Banlung. DAY 05 BANLUNG Leave Banlung heading northwest through bamboo forests to reach the village of Voeune Sai, a Chinese enclave in Cambodian territory with most villagers not speaking Khmer. Upstream are the Tampoun villages, known for their funeral statuary or totems. Some of the best of the totems are in the village of Ka Choan, reached by boat or Jeep. Overnight in Banlung. DAY 06 BANLUNG – STUNG TRENG The day starts with a spot of early morning shopping at the Banlung market, before a short trip to the volcanic lake of Yak Lom which is in a superb location surrounded by pristine rainforest. Swim or take a stroll around the lake before leaving to catch the plane to Stung Treng (or alternatively travel by road). Transfer to your hotel on arrival. In the afternoon explore this charming little town, with its markets and pagodas. Overnight in Stung Treng. DAY 07 STUNG TRENG - KRATIE In the morning board the local boat to Kratie (four hours away). On arrival, stroll through the town to check in at the hotel. In the afternoon travel 9km to visit Phnom Sambok and Kampi - 12km north of town to visit Phnom Srey and Phnom Pros. The other reason for visiting this area is to try to catch a glimpse of the endangered Irrawaddy Dolphin. Overnight in Kratie.

DAY 08 KRATIE - KAMPONG CHAM After breakfast, transfer to the port for the trip by speedboat to Kampong Cham, which takes about two and a half hours. On arrival, visit Wat Nokor, an 11th century Mahayana Buddhist shrine of sandstone and laterite and explore the town to see old colonial buildings as well as observe the daily life of the local residents. Overnight in Kampong Cham. DAY 09 KAMPONG CHAM – KAMPONG THOM In the morning, drive across the new bridge to a rubber plantation in Chup. On the way to Kampong Thom, stop to visit Phnom Pros (Man Hill) & Phnom Srei (Woman Hill), each with its own temple on the top. In the afternoon climb the 980 steps of Phnom Santuk for a sunset view. Overnight in Kampong Thom. DAY 10 KAMPONG THOM – SIEM REAP After breakfast drive to Sambor Prei Kuk, 30km to the north, a pre-Angkori-

an complex of temples built between 616 and 635 AD. The route from Kampong Thom to Siem Reap is a long but interesting journey of 146km, however, road conditions are not good and this journey will take four or five hours to complete. Overnight in Siem Reap. DAY 11 SIEM REAP Siem Reap is the base for exploring the fabled temples of Angkor, the ancient capital of the Khmer empire. Start with a visit to the Roluos Group of temples including Preah Ko, Ba Kong and Lo Lei. In the afternoon visit the magnificent 12thcentury Angkor Wat. Overnight in Siem Reap. DAY 12 SIEM REAP An early start to catch the sunrise (optional). Return to the hotel for breakfast. A morning tour of the temples includes the South Gate of Angkor Thom, the famous Bayon, Baphuon, the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. In the afternoon,

In the afternoon continue to Pre Rup, East Mebon, Ta Som, Neak Pean and Preah Khan, all lesser visited temples off the beaten track but nonetheless impressive like their famous Angkorian brothers. DAY 01 ARRIVAL YANGON Yangon - the former capital and the largest city in Myanmar is a great introduction to the Land of the Golden Pagodas. First, take a trip over to the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda with the longest reclining Buddha in Myanmar. Stop by the Karaweik Hall, which floats majestically on the Royal Lake and follow with a visit to the glowing golden dome of the Shwedagon Pagoda. Finish your evening with a visit to Yangon’s Chinatown to see the colourful Chinese worship site and the market. Overnight in Yangon. DAY 02 YANGON – BAGAN Enter Bagan, the land of temples stretching across the horizon, and start off by seeing the wonderful panorama at the top of the towering Tayokye Pyay temple. After your temple experience at the golden stupa of Shwezigon, head off to the vibrant Nyaung Oo Market where you can marvel at the vast array of colourful variety of local produce. Afterwards, visit Ananda temple and see the beautiful architectural work of the 12th century, then head to Thatbyinnya, the the tallest temple in Bagan. Overnight in Bagan. DAY 03 BAGAN – MANDALAY – AMARAPURA – AVA – SAGAING Venture deep into Myanmar, with a start at Amarapura’s Magandayon, the renowned monastery that houses over a thousand monks. DAY 04 MINGUN – MANDALAY As you cross the Irrawaddy River into Mingun, you’ll get to see the Mingun Pahtodawqyi, a huge brick structure whose building was never finished after a prophecy foretold the King’s death upon completion of building. Further along the river you will see the alabaster Hsinbyume Pagoda whose architecture distinctly mimics Mount Meru, the mountain peak at the centre of the Hindu-Buddhist universe. The sights of the day will not end there as you come to see the Mingun Bell, weighing over 90 tons and the world’s largest bell still capable of ringing. Finish off the day with a trip into the Golden Monastery of Shwenanday, renowned for its remarkable wood-carvings. Overnight in Mandalay. DAY 05 MANDALAY – PINDAYA – INLE LAKE With all the temples and religious structures you’ve been seeing, time for a contrast! Overnight in Pyin Ol Lwin DAY 03 PYIN OO LWIN – GOKTEIK – MANDALAY Head to the old British-built train station for an enchanting 2.5 hour train journey. Pass by villages and railway bazaars along the track that float by the carriage windows in a timeless fashion. As a highlight the train will traverse the renowned Gokteik Bridge, which was built in the 1900’s. On the way back to Mandalay stop off at the scenic Peik Khyin Myaung Caves, home to the many equally mesmerizing stalactites and stalagmites hosted by the numerous Buddha statues inside. Overnight in Mandalay. DAY 04 MINGUN – MANDALAY A morning walk up to Mandalay Hill will

reward you with a full panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. Then it’s off to the Shwenandaw Monastery; an impressive structure celebrated for its remarkable woodcarvings. In the afternoon, a private boat takes you for a 1 hour journey on the Ayeyarwady River to Mingun. By bike you’ll discover the sights, starting with the massive Mingun Pahtodawqyi, an enormous brick building whose construction was halted after a soothsayer predicted the King’s death on completion. Continue on to the gorgeous alabaster Hsinbyume Pagoda and the Mingun Bell that is thought to be the world’s largest un-fractured bell still capable of ringing. Return by boat and transfer back to your hotel. Overnight in Mandalay. DAY 05 MANDALAY – POWINTAUNG – MONYWA Depart for Monywa. On the way, stopover at Thanboddhay Pagoda, an enormous Buddhist temple, covered with more than 500,000 images of Buddha. In the afternoon, you will cross the Chindwin River by ferry and advance toward Po Win Taung by local openair Jeep. This astonishing structure is composed of 947 sandstone caves that have been hollowed out of the surrounding hills and contains what is considered to be the best gathering of mural paintings and Buddhist statues in South-east Asia. After lunch you will board a local boat in Pakkoku for a relaxed, two-hour journey downriver to Bagan. On the way, you’ll stop at Kyauk Gu U Min temple – with its exquisite stone carvings depicting religious figures and flowers. After reaching Bagan you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Bagan. DAY 07 BAGAN Bagan is not only the site of thousand year old temples and pagodas, but also of many quaint villages scattered throughout the temple plain. Hop on a bike, enjoy a ride around Taung Bi village and familiarise yourself with the local lifestyle. Continue cycling along the Ayeyarwady River until you reach the settlement of Myinkaba where you will have the chance to examine the village as well as see the local craftsmen. After lunch, pedal among the multitude of ancient stupas and pagodas and visit sights such as Gu Byauk-

gyi, Manuha, Nanbaya Temples and the Myazedi (Jade) Stupa. Sometime around mid-afternoon, stop at a local monastery for a tea break, after which you can take the opportunity to watch the sunset from a specially designed raised platform. Overnight in Bagan. DAY 08 BAGAN – HEHO – INLE LAKE In the morning take a domestic flight to Heho. Transfer to Nyaung Shwe where you will mount a bicycle again. Cycle to the Red Mountain Estate, a winery tucked in the Shan Hills. The ride takes you along quiet, flat roads (around 30 minutes) past farms and villages. After lunch at the winery, you’ll board a private motorboat and begin heading out onto Inle Lake, one of Myanmar’s most spectacular and breathtaking sights. Along the way you will pass several villages built on stilts and you can observe the daily activities of the local leg-rowing fishermen. You will also visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery which houses numerous early Shan Buddha Images. The day will come to a close with a return trip by boat back to your hotel. Overnight at Inle Lake

DAY 09 INLE LAKE - INDEIN - INLE LAKE After breakfast you’ll pay a visit to the lake’s morning market. A 1-hour boat ride down a small canal will take you to the Pa-Oh village of Indein, positioned on the western shores of Inle Lake. Take a leisurely stroll around the village before ascending the moss-covered stairway to the top of a hill. Once you’ve arrived at the summit, you will be greeted by an iconic Buddha image which sits enshrined among hundreds of stupa ruins. On your boat ride back, visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main haven, which contains five sacred images of Buddha decorated in gold leaf. As an exciting day comes to a close, transfer back to your hotel for some well-deserved relaxation. Overnight at Inle Lake. DAY 10 INLE LAKE – HOLY RETREAT – INLE LAKE Take a boat ride to the village of Maing Tauk. After a climb towards Holy Retreat meditation centre you will be awed by the peace and stillness surrounding the monastery. DAY 04 HALONG – HANOI – HUE In the morning you will continue the cruise with Luon Cave, How Cuong area, Finger Island, Ga Choi Island and Duck Island – each with its own individual characteristics. After the morning cruise you will make your way to Hanoi airport for your onward flight to Hue, the ancient Imperial capital of Vietnam. Overnight in Hue. DAY 05 HUE Hue originally rose to prominence as the capital of the Nguyen Lords, a feudal dynasty which dominated much of southern Vietnam from the 17th to the 19th century. You will be visiting the Forbidden City and Imperial Citadel. After this passage through time, you’ll take a boat trip along the Huong (Perfume) River to Hon Chen Temple and Thien Mu Pagoda and the tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. These are all sites which have become quintessentially associated with the central Vietnamese capital. Overnight in Hue. DAY 06 HUE – DANANG – HOI AN Along the way to Hoi An, you will pass by the white beached village of Lang Co at Hai Van pass, the geographic border between North and South Vietnam, and then stop at Danang’s Cham Museum to see the finest collection of Cham sculpture in Vietnam. Upon arrival in Hoi An you will be free to shop and relax in this ancient trading port. Overnight in Hoi An. After a morning of shopping you will get a chance to see some of the oldest monuments in Vietnam at My Son, a cluster of abandoned and partially ruined Hindu temples constructed between the 4th and 14th century AD by the kings of Champa. Overnight in Hoi An. DAY 08 HOI AN - SAIGON After your arrival in Saigon, meander through the historical landmarks that the bustling metropolis has to offer. First, to the Reunification Palace, then to the French-constructed Notre Dame Cathedral, City Hall, the ivory white Opera House and then to the famed French architect Gustave Eiffel’s Central Post Office. Finally, a spot of shopping at Ben Thanh market, Saigon’s iconic central market. Overnight in Saigon.

DAY 09 SAIGON Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon to look at Cho Lon (or Chinatown) and then on to Binh Tay Market. Stroll through the packed aisles and observe the local Vietnamese and Chinese going about their daily business. Next is Thien Hau Pagoda - perhaps Chinatown’s most ornate pagoda with its distinctive spiral incense burners and ceramic friezes. Overnight in Saigon. DAY 10 SAIGON – SIEM REAP You will have a relaxing morning, before flying to Siem Reap, near Angkor Wat, the jewel of Southeast Asia. Overnight in Siem Reap. DAY 11 SIEM REAP This is a full day visit to all of the most important landmarks of the Angkor Wat ancient religious palace complex. You will see the south gate of Angkor Thom, Bayon, Baphoun, Elephant and Leper

King Terrace and the main highlight, Angkor Wat. Finish off the day watching the fabulous sunset over the majestic ancient grounds. In the evening enjoy an Apsara Dance show over dinner. Overnight stay in Siem Reap. DAY 12 SIEM REAP In the morning we visit Banteay Samre and Banteay Srei, two temples with particularly ornate and delicate carvings, which is a testament to the genius of the ancient Khmer civilization. In the afternoon, you will visit the Ta Prom Temple and have a chance to shop at the local market. Overnight stay in Siem Reap. DAY 13 SIEM REAP – SAIGON After breakfast, check out of your hotel and relax until transferring to Siem Reap airport for your flight home, or back to Saigon for your onward connection.
