rixham College students were invited by Primrose Properties in Brixham to design and create a window display for the Royal British Legions competition. The competition has called on businesses in Brixham to create a window display to reflect on and reinforce the importance of Remembrance Day. Primrose Properties contacted the college to ask if they would like to help and Mrs Charles, Head of Creative Media Faculty was more than happy to volunteer the expertise of her year 10 textiles class. After some careful consideration the group decided that they would like to create a screen to be placed in the window, which would be decorated with hand-made appliqué poppies and photographs which had been transferred onto fabric. Many of the students collected their own family photographs of relatives who had served in the armed forces which gave their work a very personal touch. Three of the students, Saskia Holman, Jasmin Simons and Shana McPhillips helped to assemble the display along with the help of Mrs Charles and Mrs Hazel and it will be on display until November 14. Thanks go to the staff at Primrose Properties for the opportunity to create this display and for providing tea and biscuits and fingers crossed for the competition. Students who participated were Niamh Aldredge, Saskia Holman, Melody Burgess, Lydia Gent, Hollie Harvey, Sharna McPhillips, Freya Podschies, Jasmin Symons, Aleasha Vaughn and Maizy Wright.

The exhibition was supported by the Property Sharing Experts’ 80 offices throughout Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and Dorset and experts from the counties were on hand to talk to the buyers. he average price of a house in the South West is higher than anywhere in the UK outside of London and the South East and has continued to rise in Q3 2014, according to the latest Regional Land report from leading property advisers CBRE. Off the back of 11 per cent growth in the third quarter of the year, an increase of one per cent from the previous quarter, CBRE estimates the average price of a house in the South West to be ÂŁ207,420, over ÂŁ20k more than that of the UK as a whole (ÂŁ186,544). This upward trajectory is predicted to continue, with CBRE forecasting house prices in the region to rise by as much as 30 per cent over the next five years. Guy Mansfield, Head of National Land & Development at CBRE Bristol, commented: â&#x20AC;&#x153;Our report backs up what many estate agents have been saying - that the property market in the South West is one of the most buoyant in the country and there is a real demand out there from buyers.
â&#x20AC;&#x153;However, it is important that property remains affordable and within reach of the average working person. If we want the economy to continue to grow and flourish then we need a healthy property market that offers affordable housing suitable for all levels of income.â&#x20AC;? CBRE has reported that the development market is gathering significant momentum across the South West, with an increasing number of schemes coming though the planning system and starting construction. The firm says this upswing in activity has led to increased competition for the best sites across the region and that the scarcity of available sites is driving up land values. Jennet Siebrits, Head of Residential Research at CBRE, said: â&#x20AC;&#x153;We anticipate sustained demand across the traditional regional housing markets into 2015, but regional price inflation is likely to soften compared to 2014 price performance. embers of the Torbay Country Bowling Club were literally bowled over with delight recently after securing a new local sponsor. Renaissance Retirement, a luxury provider of independent retirement apartments in Paignton, has entered into a long term partnership with the club. Renaissance will be supporting the purchase of a number of important items for the club. Renaissance is hoping the awareness of sponsoring the regionally and nationally renowned bowling club will help raise the profile of its own development. The company is building 38 luxury apartments on an independent retirement development, called Fleur de Lis, backing onto Victoria Park in Paignton. A show apartment will be launched in May 2015. Development director at Renaissance, Nick Watkins, said: “We are delighted we can help purchase some invaluable items to help the smooth running and promotion of the club. Buying this trolley is the first in a number of items we will support the club buying going forward. “I’m sure the relationship will go from strength to strength. Renaissance has always felt it very important to be part of the local com-
munity and offer support where it can. “We are building a very exciting, top-end development in Paignton which has a superb location, high-end specification and design features including mezzanine floors. director of an Exeter-based luxury home design business has been shortlisted for a national award. Mark Newbery of Sapphire Living Space, Topsham, achieved the esteemed nomination for a kitchen he designed for a Torquay home. Mark will find out if it has won the award, run by Designer magazine, a special lunch in London’s Embankment Gardens on November 12. He said it was exciting to be on the shortlist. “It is normally London-based companies that are shortlisted so it is hugely exciting that we are on it. There have also been an unprecedented number of entries this year so that is even more encouraging,” he said. “The business began two years ago because we wanted to bring top-end designs to the South West. Before that, people wanting these sorts of designs had had to go to London.” To enter the awards, Mark had to submit images of the kitchen and show how the client brief was realised into the finished product. Sapphire Living Space began as a luxury kitchen and bathroom company but it has evolved into luxury living for every room in the home. The showroom contains two floors of working kitchens and bathrooms, has a unique spiral wine cellar and also offers furniture and accessories.
