North Platte moves to No. 3, falls to LCCC Women’s sub-region races becoming tight It is becoming a crazy January and February will become just as crazy as the basketball season heats up for sub-region placing. On the men’s side, North Platte moved up to No. 3 in the nation after registering back-to-back wins over Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming over the weekend moving their record to 14-0. The Knights then suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday to Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyo., in a dramatic contest with the Golden Eagles winning 82-78. LCCC held a 4533 halftime lead but saw the Knights fight back. The contest was huge for LCCC’s Deshon Portley, who scored his 1,000 career point in the win. Portley finished with a game high 26 points, including burying three 3-pointers and going 9 of 10 from the line. Not to be outdone, the Knights were led by two players that hit for 20 or more points. Ethan Montalvo finished with 28 points, including going 12 of 20 from the field. Cameron Williams also finished with 21 points. North Platte holds a one-game south sub-region lead over Laramie County. The knights are 6-1 while LCCC is 5-2. Right behind those two is a logjam with NJC and McCook at 4-2, and not out of the picture Continued on next page
