Welcome It is my great pleasure to invite Marlborough families, current and past, visiting Prep Schools and friends of the College to our Festival of Sport and Club Day 2021.

May I also offer a warm welcome to the players, parents and staff of Lord Wandsworth College, St Mary’s Calne, St Edward’s, Bradfield and Pangbourne who join us today for a series of fixtures across a range of sports. We welcome Old Marlburians back to the College to play Rugby, Mixed Hockey, Football, Fives, Squash and for rifle shooting. The College has always enjoyed a tradition of sporting excellence, with teams in recent years reaching the final rounds of national competitions but so too we offer incredible depth in our sport with the vast majority of Marlburians representing the College on a weekly basis. At every level at the College, from Shell to Upper Sixth, our pupils consider it an honour and a privilege to wear

Marlborough Blue, to represent their school whether in the 1st teams or in the development squads. I am sure that you will see a little of that determined Marlborough spirit today and I hope that you will thoroughly enjoy all the sport on display. Do, please, visit the tented village and I very much hope to see you back on match days in the future.

Louise Moelwyn-Hughes The Master Marlborough College 3

Being a Sports Scholar at Marlborough A Sports Scholar at Marlborough College is a person who shows an insatiable appetite for their sport and possesses the ability to further develop in that field. The commitment to that development must be all encompassing and include skill acquisition, teamwork, mental and physical prowess, and of course, the ability to stand out as a role model across the College. The Sports Scholar has unrivalled access to a range of specialist coaches in sport and performance that are backed up by stunning facilities in the pool, gym and surrounding pitches. To complement this, a wide range of experts outside the College visit and offer unique insights into high performance sport and the key peripheral elements upon which to focus. To find out more about being a Sports Scholar, please contact the Admissions Department via the details on the page opposite. 6
