Our Vision, Values and Strategy January 2022
The Master It is my privilege to lead Marlborough College, a school community with such opportunity to make a difference. As a full boarding school with exceptional people and facilities, we are uniquely well-placed to create the right environment for young people to meet their potential, empowered and supported in their ambitions for their future and for that of the world around them. For me, increasing diversity at the College will be the catalyst to take us forward: not just greater diversity in the people who join our school community, but greater diversity in our partnerships, our curriculum and co-curriculum, our collaborations and outreach, and in the ways we teach, learn and engage.

Our Mission and Vision At Marlborough, we aim to build on our traditions whilst embracing the contemporary context in which we operate and the type of education and skills our pupils will need to flourish in the future. Our mission is to deliver the best independent, co-educational, full boarding education in the UK and to be recognized for this globally; an education that creates inspiring young people who, appreciating the privileges they receive, want to make a positive difference in the world. The world is facing many challenges and our young people will play a key part in finding novel solutions, using technology that has not yet been invented and collaborating in new ways with people very different to themselves. A Marlborough College education must fully equip them to do this – to be intellectually agile innovators, to truly value the creative energy of diverse opinions, and to strive to make a real difference in society, creating brighter futures for all. Externally, the expectation of Public Schools has rightly increased. We embrace the need for us to cast our net even wider in making a Marlborough College education accessible to talented children, whatever their background or financial circumstances,
to engage more openly with our local communities and to be more conscious of our social, cultural and environmental impact. The Marlborough we envisage will be a leading, outward looking and inclusive school where children with potential are given the opportunity to make a difference. Ultimately, we would like to be judged by the contributions made by past, present and future generations of Marlburians to the benefit of wider society.
Marlburians are well-rounded individuals: academically ambitious, open-minded, adaptable and socially minded with a strong sense of perspective for their community and the wider world.
Our Values These are the vital, strong foundations of our community which enable everyone to contribute, to be valued and to fulfil their potential.
Community
Service
Celebrating individuality but appreciating that we move further when we move together; valuing diversity of all kinds and welcoming interaction with others; being willing and able to see the world through the eyes of others with humanity, understanding and compassion.
The desire to make a difference to others and to strive for positive change in the wider world; to seek opportunities to have an impact and to do what is right and not necessarily what is easy.
Ambition The confidence and commitment to identify and develop our interests and talents to the full; to seek to be inspired and challenged and to be inspiring and challenging; to take responsibility for ourselves and the quality of our contribution, and pride in being the best that we can be.
Initiative To seek to learn from everyone and every experience; to keep asking important questions and to be fired by a genuine spirit of curiosity, endeavour and independent study; to see and embrace possibilities with an open mind and to be prepared to take action and to lead.
Key Programmes of work As we look to the future, we are committed to the following key programmes of work: • A pioneering academic strategy and approach to teaching that will maximise the academic outcomes for all pupils. A best in class provision for our most academically able. • An ambitious new bursary fundraising campaign to increase the number of young people on full and partial bursaries and to create a more diverse College community which will better prepare all pupils for the society in which they will go on to live and work.
• Ongoing enrichment of our exceptional co-curricular, spiritual and pastoral provision. • Support for our people and pupils and working in stronger partnership with our local community. • The execution of our bold and sustainable Campus Master Plan including conservation of our heritage assets and natural landscape, and the building of new facilities.
• An expanded outreach programme to support more schools, people and causes locally and beyond.
Marlborough College provides an exceptional, contemporary education set in a beautiful environment steeped in history. It is a welcoming community where ambition and scholarship are highly valued, creativity is celebrated, diversity is embraced and where each pupil is encouraged and challenged to be the best that they can be.
