Food Waste awareness and The Felix Project Food waste is a highly significant environmental crisis we face. The Felix Project is a food distribution charity that fights both food waste and hunger in London. 1.5 million adults in London struggle to afford to eat every day and 400,000 children are at risk of missing the next meal. Meanwhile, our food industry generates 3 million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year, which has significant damaging impacts on the environment. The Felix Project collects food from supermarkets, restaurants and wholesalers that would be going to waste and delivers the food to homeless shelters, schools where pupils may not have stable food supply and houses for vulnerable people. In 2020 they provided 21.1 million meals to the vulnerable. Thanks to the Felix team food that would have normally gone straight to landfill is reaching those who really need it.
