The aim of this work is to develop a strategic concept as well as a concrete design for a part of Mannheim's city center.
The concept 3+1 macht Park! includes a green network in Mannheim's city center based on three existing open spaces. It will be based on the Pocket Park concept developed by Robert Zion as early as 1963 and will represent an open space concept for Mannheim's "squares".
Thus, by transforming potential areas, a fusion of first floor use with the newly created outdoor spaces will be created. Gaps in the urban fabric are added and held together by greenery that acts like glue. 3+1 macht Park! offers a start to linking green spaces and building up a concentrated and diverse range of uses that can gradually expand to the rest of the "squares".
