Four-day professional development seminars for secondary school history teachers in historic Lexington, Virginia.
The Summer Teachers Institute includes sessions at the George C. Marshall Research Library (Lexington) and National D-Day Memorial (Bedford, Virginia); presentations by World War II historians; and lesson planning workshops. Ideal for teachers of U.S. History and World History.
Teachers may attend one of two sessions: Session 1 (June 17 to 20) or Session 2 (July 8 to 11). By design, each session is small, limited to 14 teachers, to promote collaboration among teachers, historians, archivists, and seminar staff.
The George C. Marshall Foundation provides lodging, meals, and a travel allowance for all educators. Teachers who complete the 4-day seminar also receive a $400 honorarium and professional development certificate.
Summer Teachers Institute staff include World War II experts such as Bradley Coleman (Marshall Foundation), Kevin Hymel (U.S. Army), M. Houston Johnson (Virginia Military Institute), Frank Settle (Washington & Lee University), and many others.
“I loved the entire program…. I have never felt as valued as an educator as I have this week. First class all the way.”
—Devlin Murphy, Manchester High School, Richmond, Virginia
