Cam Henderson center The Cam Henderson Center, located in the heart of the Marshall University campus, is the home of the Thundering Herd volleyball team. Since the arrival of head coach Mitch Jacobs in 2002, the volleyball team has posted an impressive 75-18 record at home. Within the 213,000 square-foot, fully-equipped arena, the team fins the tools necessary to achieve success. The Cam Henderson Center is a multi-purpose structure that houses much of the Marshall University athletic department. Inside the facility is a majority of the athletic department staff, the ticket office, an 800-seat natatorium, a state of the art training room, and a weight room. The Henderson Center received a $5 million renovation prior to the 1998-99 season that actually lowered the number of seats from 10,000+ to a more intimate 9,043. The lower half of the arena, which was originally built in 1981, was completely gutted and rebuilt with fan comfort in mind. Permanent, padded, chair back seating was installed along with walkways designed to allow fans to go from section to section without missing any of the game. The portable floor, which rested on top of a tarten surface, was also replaced with a permanent wooden floor that covers the entire arena base. In the fall of 2003, a refurbished floor and new scoreboard were also installed. Through the direction of ESPN, the arena also received state of the art wiring for television and radio broadcasts. The floor was again refurbished during the summer of 2009. Prior to the 2001-02 season, a new Big Green Room (Bob Hartley Room) for pregame parties, banquets and functions was opened. The Bob Hartley Room sits beneath the north side stands. The Hartley room includes meeting rooms utilized by the basketball team throughout the year. The summer of 2010 saw the facility receive new state-of-the art lighting that was part of a $3 million on-campus renovation project. The Herd volleyball has called the Henderson Center home since the 1994 season.
