MHC spring visitation day
SOAR
The date for our Spring Visitation Day has been set for Saturday, April 26, 2008. During this day students and their families will be able to talk one-on-one with professors at our faculty fair, tour our campus, and meet with admissions and financial aid counselors. If you have not yet visited our campus or if you want to come one more time to help choose your dorm this would be a great opportunity. Registration can be done online at www.mhc. edu or by phone at 1-866-MHC-4-YOU. If you are not able to attend you are more than welcome to schedule a private visit Monday through Friday from 9-4pm and on Saturday by appointment.
Summer Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR) dates for fall 2008 have been set for June 13, June 14, July 18, or July 19. All students planning to enroll will need to attend one of these one-day sessions. During their selected SOAR date, students will take placement tests, meet with an advisor, register for classes, and get their student ID card and parking pass. Completing these tasks prior to arrival on campus in the fall will allow students to move into their dorm much more quickly. SOAR registration cards will be mailed to students at the end of April.
MHC to participate in nation’s largest online college fair Mars Hill has been invited to participate in the nation’s largest online college fair, CollegeWeek Live, to be held on March 25 and 26, 2008. Students will be able to login to the virtual college fair and chat with representatives from over 100 colleges and universities. Feel free to visit us during the two-day fair to get answers to any last minute questions before fall 2008. More information on the fair and how to register can be found at www.collegeweeklive.com.

new science building to open this fall
thoughts from admissions director, Ed Hoffmeyer
The Ferguson Math and Science Center continues to take shape, with construction on-schedule for opening this fall. Dedication of the Ferguson Center will happen at 11am on Saturday, June 7, in the Ponder Lobby of the building. The 38,000 square foot structure will more than double Mars Hill’s science facilities, and it will feature specially designed laboratory space for mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, meteorology, and computer science.
One of the most rewarding experiences for me as Director of Admissions is getting to meet prospective students in person. At MHC, we pride ourselves on having a close-knit, family atmosphere and I’m happy to say that since September I’ve had the chance to meet many of you in person at Visitation Days, Honor Scholar interviews, or during a private visit. Not only does a visit to our campus give you the chance to tour our facilities and talk with faculty, but it also gives us the opportunity to meet you in person and put a face with your file! Over the next few months, I’m looking forward to meeting those of you who have not yet visited our beautiful campus. Visits can be scheduled by contacting Susan Bryson at (828)689-1201. --
You can view a photo gallery of the construction of the Ferguson Center, from preliminary drawings, through groundbreaking, December's "topping off" ceremony, and right up to the current construction status. The Web address for the online gallery is http://www.mhc.edu/ ferguson_construx/
residence hall assignments for fall 2008 Housing and roommate assignments for fall 2008 will be made in mid-June. Although the assignments are done on a first-come, first-served basis, there is still time to secure a spot in the residence hall of your choice. A housing assignment cannot be made until we have received a completed copy of the Housing and Tuition Contract and the $250 deposit. The deposit is refundable until May 1, if the admissions office is notified in writing and will otherwise be refunded after a student moves off campus or graduates. Please contact the admissions office at 1-866-MHC-4-YOU if you need a copy of the form or have any questions about selecting a residence hall.

financial aid tips and advice Fastweb – Want even more scholarships?
Check out www.fastweb.com and browse thousands of scholarships. These scholarships are not directly affiliated with MHC and usually require a separate application, but they can add up quickly and will be in addition to any Mars Hill scholarships received.
FAFSA – Tax season is upon us, and while that may not be fun, it also means we can start to put together financial aid packages to give you some money back! You can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov using the MHC school code, 002944, and a copy of your current tax statements. Contact our financial aid office at (828)689-1123 if you have any questions.
