Profile
Born in Lisbon, I studied in of the best Art schools in the country, António Arroio, where I was first involved in 2D graphic editing and pagination, as well with outdoor event space design. I then pursued my further education in Graphic Design, moving to London in 2004, and later graduating in International Studies and Languages from the University of Greenwich. My academic background reveals an ever-present multi-level interest in communications from visual to written media always deeply embedded in greater social causes. With an ever-present interest in public policy and international affairs, I then went on to complete a masters in Human Rights, from the School of Public Policy at the University College of London. Involved in volunteering throughout my career path I also had the chance to work for well-known international non-governmental organisations from WaterAid to Amnesty International, where she contributed to make possible participation in some major international forums and had the chance to coordinate a diverse range of members, as well as training new staff. Particularly centred on human rights and environmental rights, my work was first published in 2012 by the Stakeholder Forum’s Outreach and in 2013 by Revolve Magazine. I am currently seeking to focus in human rights and businesses, embracing a new challenge and being keen on applying my communication and organisational skills whilst gaining practical experience in Corporate Social Responsibility.

Freshwater Action Network
Freshwater Action Network is as the name suggests, a network of members of civil society and non-governmental organisations who work together to foster and coordinate participation in international forums. Working together with the Policy Manager and the Communications Manager, I contributed to coordinate the participation of a delegation of 60 members in the 6th World Water Forum in Marseilles. Our participation involved hosting, speaking, coordinating activities around the right to water and sanitation.

UCL Human Rights Society
One of the greatest achievements of this society was to gather enough funding members to allow it to acquire the status of an independent organisation rather than a student society. Bringing together experts from different organisations, survivors of human rights abuses, and individuals with a common interest, events ranged from discussions to lectures, film shows, Q&A’s, and different participatory opportunities. I was a member of the organising committing, facilitating ideas and with a significant input in the creative process.

Why is the World Water Forum Back? Marta Lobo
The World Water Forum is the biggest international event on water. Its aim is to bring together governments, private investors and local representatives to discuss water issues. This year’s edition of the Forum is coming back to Europe, where it is the turn of the French to host it in the historical coastal city of Marseille. Some twenty thousand participants will be presenting and exchanging ideas from the 12th to the 17th of March, when they will finally reach an agreement on the ministerial Declaration that demonstrates national commitment to water issues worldwide. The Forum’s 6th edition is being organised to offer a platform where delegates can discuss various solutions to respond to the water issues involving our Planet. Amidst these issues there are questions relating to health, nutrition and hygiene, sanitation, accessibility and acceptability, and of course feasible financing of water and sanitation for all. In its turn, all of these and other concerns are being discussed with the larger aim of achieving good governance standards, sustainable development and respect for the environment. The forthcoming debate is hence the most comprehensive on the matter. It will be followed by many professionals in different fields of expertise. Politicians, local representatives, investors, legal and technical experts involved in water and sanitation will be awaiting the outcomes of this conference. Such expectancy does not come as a surprise when considering the impact that it will have in enforcing a much greater commitment to the assurance of this right by each of the parts involved.

Pourquoi le Retour du Forum Mondial de l’Eau? Marta Lobo
