NURSING STATIONS
The merger of aesthetics and robust functionality has never been more essential than in the design of the fast paced environment of a nursing station. As the working hub of a medical unit, it must provide a calming work environment, an approachable destination for patients and their visitors whilst incorporating all of the functions that will be required.
With technology and related work processes changing faster than can often easily be managed through modification, it is essential to keep flexibility in mind when planning the station. Cable management and surfaces that can be used for additional pieces of equipment need to be considered, as do all of the interfaces with external systems installed and potentially required in the future.

STERILE AREAS
At Martek we understand that a high level of hygiene is vital in the fight against infection; we know through our work with clinicians and other experts in the field of infection control that the surrounding environment plays a crucial role in the health and wellbeing of patients.
For every project we use the most appropriate materials and fabrication techniques and work with the worlds leading manufacturers of technologically advanced material composites for the control of infection and inhibition of bacterial growth.
We have our own solid surface fabrication facility within our manufacturing centre and by utilising the very best fabrication techniques, we build sterility in to our products through the use of the latest materials, advanced cladding and seamless jointing methodology.

WARDS
Bringing together all of the disciplines and expertise accumulated during thirty years, Martek have worked with architects, trusts and designers on a number of specialist ward projects. This has included the design and development of a double sided partition system, which encloses all patient / clinical services together with technical monitoring equipment, AVI PatientLine and associated elements for the award winning Evelina Children’s Hospital.
We have also worked with a number of Trusts to develop bespoke facilities to add to patient comfort which has most recently included the design manufacture and installation of a fold down carer bed in each of the rooms within the paediatrics unit at the new Pembury Hospital in Kent.

SOLID SURFACE
Accredited to fabricate all of the major international solid surface materials,
Martek has worked closely
with LG HI-Macs on a number of major health care projects. Particularly suited to this type of environment where hygiene is a key performance requirement.
HI-Macs is a homogeneous blend of natural minerals, pigments and acrylic that is thermally cured into a solid, durable stone like material with a non-porous, stain resistant, easily sterilisable surface. It does not absorb moisture and its non-porous surface offers no toe holds for bacteria or fungi to become established. When wiped with a sanitising agent, the surface becomes 100% sterile. In fabrication, material elements, whether work surfaces, bowls, up-stands, covings or other components which interface, are jointed seamlessly with liquid HI-Macs adhesives, effectively the base material in its liquid state in advance of hardeners being incorporated.
