We are Nirvana Soul Coffee Purveyors, a soulful coffee and tea shop bringing bold flavors and creative artistry to San Jose. We’re inspired by community. We enjoy meaningful connection that forces people to slow down and take a genuine and active interest in the world around them. We’re all artists - from latte artists to marketers to technologists. Each of us have it within us to create. We’re creating a business now! It’s the sweetest spot of terrifying and exhilarating, a place many traditional artists can probably relate to.

What does "liberation" mean to you?

Liberation means controlling your own destiny. It means waking up each day and getting to decide for yourself, by yourself what you want to do with it. Liberation feels like freedom, no restraint, not being confined, and trusting that your authenticity is always good enough.

Is your creative practice one of liberation?

When a customer first walks through the door to when they get their drink to when they leave is the ultimate creative practice for us. We’re creating an experience that can be healing, magical, necessary, and calm. It feels comforting and exciting to serve this way.

How can art be a tool in the revolution?

A revolutionary still needs rest. Art can fill that space with self-care, which fuels us all to keep going. Nirvana Soul is self-care in a cup. We want time spent with our brand to be a reprieve, and when you’re ready, you’ll be recharged for whatever comes your way.

Share a little bit about your creative process!

We work really well together, probably because we’re sisters. If one of us feels uninspired, the other re-encourages us. If one of us feels down, the other lifts us up. I’m optimistic, she’s practical. She’s extroverted, I’m introverted. There’s always a path forward for us because of our shared and unique experiences. We’re fortunate to have this built in connection that allows us to keep making progress towards our goals, especially on the hard days.
