Cilla - The Musical is a spectacular and heart-warming musical adaptation of the critically acclaimed ITV mini-series based on the early life of Cilla Black, by BAFTA award winner, Jeff Pope ( The Moorside, Philomena, From The Cradle To The Grave, Mrs Biggs, Little Boy Blue). The story follows the extraordinary life of the ordinary teenage girl from Liverpool, Priscilla White, and her rocky, yet incredible, rise to fame. The musical score is the ultimate soundtrack to the 60’s including Cilla’s greatest hits Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie and Something Tells Me, alongside a backdrop of the legendary ‘Liverpool Sound’. Kara Lily Hayworth plays Cilla. Following weeks of open auditions up and down the country, Kara fought off thousands of hopefuls to be named as the girl who would step into the Legend’s coveted shoes in the first ever musical about the star’s life. Executive Producer and Cilla’s son, Robert Willis, said of Kara: ‘I knew she was the one my mum would have wanted!’

ART
WRITTEN BY YASMINA REZA | TRANSLATED BY CHRISTOPHER HAMPTON A comedy masterpiece starring Nigel Havers, Denis Lawson & Stephen Tompkinson. One of the most successful comedies ever. Art is a phenomenon and one of the most successful comedies ever. Having opened in 1996, it took both the West End and Broadway by storm, won Olivier, Tony, Moliere and every other major theatre award, and has been packing in audiences worldwide for more than twenty years. When Serge spends an extortionate amount of money on an all white modernist painting, his close friends Marc and Yvan are baffled. But does their violent reactions to this provocative canvas mirror more dangerous antagonisms towards each other? Yasmina Reza’s dazzling study of friendship, prejudice and tolerance is a masterpiece. The all-star cast features BAFTA nominated Nigel Havers (Downton Abbey, Coronation Street, Chariots of Fire), Olivier Award-winning Denis Lawson (Bleak House, New Tricks) and British Comedy Award- winning Stephen Tompkinson (The Split, Wild at Heart, Ballykissangel).

Rain Man
Two Brothers. One Destiny.
Based on the Oscar winning film which famously starred Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, Bill Kenwright presents the inaugural Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company with a production of Rain Man, which won Oscar’s for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Actor for Hoffman. When self-centred salesman Charlie Babbitt discovers that he has a long-lost older brother, Raymond, who has inherited the family multimillion dollar fortune, he sets out to get ‘his half’. Raymond is an autistic savant, has a remarkable memory and a genius for numbers. Determined to get his hands on the money, Charlie ‘borrows’ Raymond from the institution where he has spent most of his life. As the two brothers embark on a trip across America, Charlie soon discovers that Raymond is worth more than he could have ever imagined. Following previously acclaimed adaptations of films for the stage such as The Exorcist, A Few Good Men and The Shawshank Redemption, this will be the premiere production in a brand new series under the Classic Screen to Stage Company banner.

His selected poems, Sailing the Forest, came out in 2014 in Britain and America. His most recent work - The Long Take - has rightly been hailed as a masterpiece. A long narrative poem, or a novel in verse form, it stakes out new literary territory, referencing film noir and the music of the times. Brilliant and unforgettable.

Half-Way Rock: a fusion of the immediacy of live stage performance with the intimacy of radio drama. Marcail sees the Half-Way Rock as nothing more than a resting place on the Aberdeenshire coast until the sounds of the waves, wind and rain one day appear to her as voices, calls for help, final words long lost among the depths. But why her; why now? An answer comes only when she finds herself precariously perched thousands of feet above an abyss on the Half-Way Rock’s mirror-image on the other side of the North Sea: the Kjeragbolten. This time, the phantom words come from the Draugr - spirits of those lost at sea, human forms with heads of seaweed, and suddenly the voices make sense. Half-Way Rock is a mixed-media play by Neil Cargill in collaboration with sound designer Simon James which intertwines voices, sounds and music to create a mesmerising narrative. Join us for this work in progress sharing and find out more about the real life stories associated with Scotland’s North-east coast that have inspired and informed Half-Way Rock.
An evening of food, discussion, and artistic provocations about climate change. HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE Tuesday 23 - Saturday 27 October MATTHEW BOURNE’S
Swan Lake Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake returns with a fresh look for the 21st century. Retaining the iconic elements of the original production loved by millions around the world, Matthew Bourne and awardwinning designers Lez Brotherston (Set & Costumes) and Paule Constable (Lighting) will create an exciting re-imagining of the classic production. Thrilling, audacious, witty and emotive, this Swan Lake is perhaps still best known for replacing the female corpsde-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered conventions, turned tradition upside down and took the dance world by storm. Collecting over thirty international accolades including an Olivier Award in the UK and three Tonys on Broadway, Matthew Bourne’s powerful interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.

OPERA
HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE Thursday 1 & Saturday 3 November SCOTTISH OPERA PRESENTS VERDI’S
Rigoletto
Revival of the 2011 production Sung in Italian with English supertitles Award-winning director Matthew Richardson (The Devil Inside 2016) and Olivier Award-winning designer Jon Morrell revive their powerful production of Verdi’s masterpiece. Set in a dark and dangerous underworld where cruelty and inhumanity are rife – and women are objects merely to be played with and discarded – it tells the tragic tale of seduction, revenge and a father’s suffocating love for his only daughter with a clarity that is completely compelling and utterly heart‐breaking. From the aching naivety of Gilda’s first love to the dissolute revelry of ‘La donna è mobile’, Verdi’s score is packed with passion, colour and some of the best loved music in opera. Internationally acclaimed baritone Aris Argiris heads up a cast of exciting talent including Lina Johnson, much praised for her Gilda in Trieste in 2016; award winning British tenor Adam Smith; and David Shipley, a recent graduate of the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artist Programme. HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE Thursday 30 May & Saturday 1 June 2019 SCOTTISH OPERA PRESENTS MOZART’S
The Magic Flute Revival of the 2012 production Sung in English with English supertitles Sir Thomas Allen returns to Scottish Opera to revive his fivestar production of Mozart’s most inventive opera. Set in a spectacular world inspired by the Victorian futurism of HG Wells and Jules Verne, this enthralling Magic Flute perfectly balances the opera’s beguiling mix of comedy, fantasy and pantomime with a profound story of the search for wisdom, love and truth. A handsome prince, a damsel in distress, sorcerers, priests and a bumbling bird catcher – all are given life in Mozart’s sublime blend of lyrical love duets, folk-like ditties and the explosive coloratura of the Queen of the Night arias. The international cast includes Peter Gijsbertsen (La traviata 2017); Gemma Summerfield, First Prize winner at the 2015 Kathleen Ferrier Awards; name to watch Julia Sitkovetsky; and Richard Burkhard, who returns to Papageno, the laugh-out-loud role he created in 2012.
