If you want to be part of the creative life of APA, if you want to start a lifelong relationship with our venues - His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall and The Lemon Tree and if you are aged between 3 - 19, then Engage! is for you.
Creative learning is at the heart of everything we do, engaging and inspiring young people of all ages and abilities to explore and participate in music making and drama. Our programmes and projects are led by experienced industry professionals in a safe and friendly environment. We offer you art form skills and techniques to a high level, performance opportunities on our stages and the chance to have fun and make friends.

Glee If you enjoy singing and would like to develop your vocal skills and techniques in an informal setting, our Glee group is for you. In our weekly Glee classes, we explore a wide variety of songs to help you develop your own arrangements and harmonies. Come along and raise the roof!

Teeny Tiny Tunes Teeny Tiny Tunes is for young children aged 3 – 5 to help develop creativity, coordination and social skills. Come and join us on a journey to explore the themes of friendship and kindness through music, movement and story-telling.

Creative Music Industries Our Creative Music Industries programme will give you an insight into the music industry from composition to performance. It’s for you if you are considering a music career in the future or would like to improve your knowledge of the industry and performance skills. This is a focused training course with access to industry professionals to set you on your way.

Arts Award Programme Our Creative Music Industries Programme gives you the opportunity to take part in the Arts Award Programme at both Bronze and Silver levels. We will help you to gather a portfolio to evidence your achievements. Once complete, you will be awarded the nationally recognised Arts Award Qualification in your chosen level of study. The Arts Award Qualification is available at an additional cost of £45. There will be a limited number of Arts Award places.

APA Youth Theatre APA Youth Theatre gives young people aged 5 – 18 the opportunity to get involved in drama, nurtures young creative talent and helps build creativity, confidence and communication skills. We run our youth theatre with the same ethos as a professional company and we work with professional theatre artists in a supportive environment. In addition to our weekly drama classes you can get involved in other projects. Our young actors have performed nationally and internationally from San Francisco to Stavanger.
All classes cost £50 per term and there are three 10 week blocks a year.

Play!
Primary 1 – Primary 3
Creating a spark of fun by introducing you to the world of theatre through games, story and play. This class is designed to be the first step of a child’s journey with APA Youth Theatre by gently encouraging participants to enjoy performing and telling stories; it will also develop skills in listening, speaking out and working as part of a team.

Create!

Creating a spark of confidence by developing a love for performing and building acting skills. In Create! we explore performing skills and we encourage you to use your imagination and develop your creativity. At the end of each term you will participate in directed sharings of work for friends and family.

Junior Youth Theatre

Creating a spark of creativity through developing theatre making skills and learning the building blocks of performance. Over the three terms you will work together as an ensemble to devise a short play which will be shared with an invited audience. You will also be given opportunities to engage with professional performers who are touring to our venues and to attend productions in The Lemon Tree Studio and at His Majesty’s Theatre.
Creating a spark of understanding by honing performance skills and learning how to stage a performance. You will work with theatre professionals – directors, actors, technical teams - to devise a production which will be fully staged in The Lemon Tree Studio for two nights at the end of term 3.

Senior Youth Theatre Secondary 5 and Secondary 6 Creating a spark of ignition by reviewing and further developing skills and working with scripts to produce high quality theatre productions. You will have the chance to explore a range of styles to create contemporary pieces of theatre. You will represent Aberdeen at national events and festivals and we encourage you to apply to take part in our international theatre projects.

Arts Award Programme Our senior youth theatre gives 6 participants the opportunity to pursue an arts award silver route for an additional cost of £45. This award is nationally recognised and offers participants the chance to explore the arts through events, challenges and researching different career options. There will be a limited number of Arts Award places.
