Tell Me on a Sunday Following the sell-out 2010 UK tour, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s Tell Me on a Sunday returns to Aberdeen for 2011. Remodelled for Claire Sweeney by the masters of musical theatre, with an exclusive new song Dreams Never Run on Time, this is the definitive version of the classic musical, with a wonderful original score, featuring the chart-topping song Take That Look Off Your Face and the title track Tell Me on A Sunday. Originally conceived for television starring Marti Webb, Tell Me on a Sunday has been performed by legendary musical theatre stars Sarah Brightman, Lulu and Denise Van Outen. In 2010 Claire Sweeney stepped into this celebrated role to rave reviews and sell-out audiences. Tell Me on a Sunday charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl in New York. Brimming with optimism, she seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she's been looking for love in all the wrong places.

BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT WITH AGATHA CHRISTIE LTD PRESENTS

Verdict Directed by Joe Harmston Designed by Simon Scullion Following the huge success of The Hollow, The Unexpected Guest, And Then There Were None, Spider’s Web, and most recently Witness For The Prosecution, the Agatha Christie Theatre Company, now in its sixth outstanding year, is proud to present Verdict, the most riveting and compelling drama by the undisputed ‘Queen of Crime.’ A superb cast includes Emmerdale’s Susan Penhaligon, Robert Duncan (Gus Hedges in the multi awardwinning comedy Drop the Dead Donkey), Peter Byrne (Dixon of Dock Green), Lyndon Ogbourne (Emmerdale), Elizabeth Power (Eastenders) and 60’s pop idol Mark Wynter. Having been forced to flee persecution in his home country, the brilliant and idealistic Professor Karl Hendryk leads a content and morally upstanding life, but his world is turned upside-down when the prospect of life-saving treatment for his invalid wife persuades him to take on a new pupil against his better judgement; the spoilt, conniving minx Helen who will stop at nothing to get her way. With murderous intentions afoot, it only remains to be seen what verdict will be delivered, and if justice will prevail…

Journey’s End Based on the author’s own experience in the trenches, this gripping tale about ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances celebrates humour and courage, engaging audiences with a compelling insight of how in the face of adversity, the human spirit will always triumph. Set in St Quentin in 1917, eighteen-year-old 2nd Lieutenant Raleigh is the new arrival in the company commanded by his former schoolboy friend, Captain Stanhope. There’s only three years between them, but a lifetime of experience separates the pair as Raleigh discovers that the man in army greens is much changed from the boy he left behind in cricketing whites.

Para Handy - A voyage round the stories of Neil Munro Written and Directed by John Bett Original Music by Robert Pettigrew Starring Jimmy Chisholm as Para Handy Designed by Annette Gillies Eden Court Theatre, Inverness and Open Book Productions are delighted to present a major new stage version of Neil Munro's Para Handy tales. The irrepressible captain of The Vital Spark and his ramshackle crew have become some of Scotland's best-loved characters since they first appeared in 1906. This breathtaking 21st-century take on the adventures of Para Handy, his mate Dougie, engineer Macphail and cabin-boy Sunny Jim travels from the Clydeside breakers yard to the lochs of the Highlands. With a cast led by Inverness' very own Jimmy Chisholm as the eponymous captain and with a foottapping live score, this modern Para Handy will be as engaging and entertaining in 2011 as the original stories were more than 100 years ago. Jimmy Chisholm is one of the treasures of Scottish Theatre. From Jimmy Blair to Braveheart, from Thomas Telford to Taggart, he is easily one of the most recognised and respected actors in the country. Loved by audiences across Scotland, Jimmy is as much a master of his craft as Para Handy is of the Vital Spark. Jimmy’s Highland roots make him the ideal choice to play Para Handy, the craftiest Highland skipper ‘in the tred…’

Basket Case A serious comedy by Nick Fisher Directed by Robin Lefevre Dependable Miranda and her ex-husband, the smoothly charming and wholly unreliable Guy are thrown together in distressing circumstances when their faithful old family pet takes a turn for the worse. Reunited over the dog basket, Guy and Miranda find they haven’t ‘moved on’ quite as they’d imagined. When they are joined by family friend James, who rarely sees a stick without getting the wrong end of it, and Martin, the vet and long time admirer of Miranda, the scene is set for some startling hometruths as this rapid-fire foursome mines laughter and touching observations in equal measure. Will this be the end of Guy’s hopes of a reunion with Miranda, or the beginning of an unlikely romance? And has Guy really discovered a love for his old dog that he failed to find during his marriage? Basket Case, a new play by Bafta award-winning writer Nick Fisher, is a perfectly crafted, quick-witted and contemporary comedy starring one of our most popular stage and TV actors Nigel Havers, with Christine Kavanagh as Miranda, David Cardy as James and Graham Seed as Martin, making his first stage appearance since his untimely death as Nigel Pargetter in The Archers.

DIRECT FROM THE WEST END

End of the Rainbow Olivier award-winning Tracie Bennett has taken the West End by storm as Judy Garland in Peter Quilter’s End Of The Rainbow. London, December 1968, and Judy Garland is about to make her comeback... again. Determined to reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation, she battles with a tornado of drugs and alcohol and a gruelling schedule of exhausting concerts at The Talk Of The Town. Despite a series of failed marriages, Judy has her latest and youngest husband-to-be by her side, a man as determined as she that, at any cost, these concerts will mark the revival of her battered career. Tracie Bennett's remarkable portrayal of this tough, talented, compelling woman has been rewarded with standing ovations. This extraordinary production - thrilling, hilarious, moving and tragic - is directed by Tony- and Olivier-award winner Terry Johnson and features a six-piece onstage band and includes Garland’s most memorable songs The Man That Got Away, Come Rain Or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and - of course - Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Men Should Weep Written by Ena Lamont Stewart Directed by Graham McLaren Supported by Bank of Scotland Set amid the grinding poverty of Glasgow's infamous tenements in the 1930s, Men Should Weep has long been a favourite with audiences in Scotland. Following the misfortunes and trials and tribulations of the Morrison family, Ena Lamont Stewart’s landmark play is a searing, unflinching depiction of the hand-to-mouth poverty that many working-class people lived in at that time. At the centre of the story and the Morrison family is Maggie, the hard working, care-worn matriarch. Supported and hindered in equal measure by a network of neighbours and family - from whom it is impossible to keep any secrets and with whom there is a constant battle to maintain appearances - she does her very best in this major new production by the National Theatre of Scotland. This will introduce this much-loved work to a new generation of theatregoers and remind those who have seen it before why it has become universally hailed as a contemporary Scottish classic. THE SMASH HIT MUSICAL, DIRECT FROM THE WEST END BILL KENWRIGHT and LAURIE MANSFIELD in association with UNIVERSAL MUSIC present

Book by LAURENCE MARKS & MAURICE GRAN THE RECORD BREAKING MUSICAL INSPIRED BY THE MILLION SELLING ALBUMS

“A great rockin’evening” Daily Express

Monday 21 – Saturday 26 November

Dreamboats and Petticoats Inspired by the smash hit multi-million selling albums Dreamboats and Petticoats One, Two, Three and Four, the West End sell-out sensation Dreamboats and Petticoats the musical, featuring some of the greatest hit songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll era, returns to His Majesty’s Theatre by phenomenal public demand! The dazzling success of the first three albums in the Dreamboats and Petticoats series sent the message loud and clear. With over 2 millions copies sold and several weeks at the Number One spot in the compilation charts, the Great British public were saying that they didn’t just want to listen to pure nostalgia: they’d love to see it as well. Thus ‘Dreamboats’ was born as a musical, opening at The Churchill Theatre in Bromley in February 2009 to rave critical reviews and widespread audience acclaim. Over a million people have since been enchanted by an evening of pure hedonistic affection for a more innocent era, when love was young and so was rock ‘n’ roll. Dreamboats and Petticoats the musical features classic tracks from Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, and many more, including Let’s Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby’s Girl, Little Town Flirt, Only Sixteen, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Let It Be Me, Great Pretender, C’mon Everybody, Let’s Twist Again and many more hits from music’s golden era! In 1961 emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national songwriting competition – and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue! But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love and rock ‘n’ roll fame beckons… Dreamboats and Petticoats - the songs will live forever!

Music by Alan Menken Lyrics by Howard Ashman & Tim Rice. Book by Linda Woolverton. Directed on Broadway by Robert Jess Roth A Tale As Old As Time… Phoenix Theatre is proud to present, back by popular demand, one of the most enchanting stories ever told in Disney’s multi-award-winning musical. Adapted from the Oscar-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is the story of Belle, a beautiful young woman who lives in a provincial French town and of the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped in a spell by an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved before a magical rose loses its petals, the curse will end and he will be returned to his former self. But time is running out and very soon the Beast and his household will be doomed for all eternity… With glorious music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice and book by Linda Woolverton, this Disney classic is a burst of theatrical magic for the entire family. Be our guest and bring someone you love to experience the enchantment of Beauty and the Beast. Photography by Catherine Ashmore of the original London Production

From producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment (Hairspray, High School Musical), the five times Tony® nominated West End and Broadway hit Sister Act is coming to His Majesty’s Theatre! When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put into protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won’t be found - a convent! Disguised as a nun she quickly finds fans amongst her fellow ‘sisters’ but makes the wrong impression on the convent’s strict Mother Superior. But when she turns her attention to the church’s off-key choir, helping the nuns to find their true voices and breathing new life into the rundown neighbourhood, her cover could be blown for good. With the gang giving chase, is time running out for Deloris? Or have they underestimated the power of her new found Sisterhood? Based on the smash-hit movie of the same name, this fabulous, family-friendly, feel-good show is packed with songs inspired by Motown, funk, soul and disco. More than a million people saw Sister Act at the London Palladium and now, as the habit hits the road in this multi-million pound production, you too can see why musical audiences fell in love with the funniest and funkiest nun on the run, and her heavenly sequinned sisters!

Strauss’s Four Last Songs Beethoven Overture: Egmont Richard Strauss Four Last Songs Elgar Symphony No 2 Donald Runnicles Conductor Michaela Kaune Soprano Elgar’s grief at the loss of two friends, and perhaps also his despair over a doomed love affair, give his Second Symphony an air of noble tragedy that will make this performance a special experience. Michaela Kaune sings Strauss’s beautiful Four Last Songs, composed at the very end of his life.

Mullova plays Beethoven Martin Suckling storm, rose, tiger Schumann Symphony No 4 (original version) Beethoven Violin Concerto Robin Ticciati Conductor Viktoria Mullova Violin Limpid in tone, matchless in technique, fearlessly honest in her musicality: it is easy to see why Viktoria Mullova has become one of violin’s biggest stars. Schumann’s symphony was a labour of love and debate still rages about whether his first or last thoughts on this piece were superior. On this occasion, Robin Ticciatiplumps for the first version — the one Schumann’s own friend, Brahms, preferred.

Julian Anderson’s short piece Eden looks back hauntingly to an earlier time, with its evocative memories of 16th-century viol music, and Sibelius’s stirring Second Symphony brims with national fervour. His Culloden Moor Suite is a sleeping giant of jazz and chamber music. An eloquent lament for the fallen in battle, it is a beautiful, soulful celebration of one of Scotland’s most haunting historical locations while his Caledonian Suite was inspired by the books of James Barke about Robert Burns, which richly evoke the sounds of Scotland’s landscape and life.
