Kathleen Jamie

Ian Rankin

Kathleen Jamie is one of Scotland’s finest living poets, at a time when that is really saying a great deal. (Among a hugely talented generation, she’s up there with the best of them). She is also an award-winning essayist and travel writer her recent prose books are exquisite meditations on landscape and the natural world - and she is Professor in Creative Writing at the University of Stirling. Her most recent awards are the Costa Poetry Prize for her collection The Overhaul, and the Orion Book Award for her prose work Sightlines. Her latest collection is The Bonniest Companie.

Ian Rankin is one of Scotland’s most successful novelists ever! He is the author of almost 40 internationally bestselling books, many featuring the iconic detective figure Inspector John Rebus - on the go now for 30 years. Ten of the Rebus books were adapted for television, starring first John Hannah then Ken Stott. The books epitomise what has come to be known as Tartan Noir, and like his great Scandinavian counterparts they transcend genre and are rich in social and political comment. His latest book - the 21st featuring Rebus - is Rather Be the Devil.

James Robertson

Louise Welsh

James Robertson is one of Scotland’s finest novelists who has produced a body of work which is wide in its historical sweep but rich in detail and sharply observed. He tackles big themes - slavery in Joseph Knight, the Lockerbie bombing in in The Professor of Truth, 60 years of social and political change in Scotland in And The Land Lay Still. By contrast, his latest book, To Be Continued… is a surreal and playful romp. Louise Welsh is an awardwinning novelist, renowned for her exquisitely-crafted psychological University, and she is a relaxed and entertaining reader of her own work, from her first book, The Cutting Room to her most recent, A Lovely Way to Burn. FISK

A tiny boat is tossed through rolling waves and thundering storms, a speck amidst immense and turbulent seas. Steadily rowing onward into the nothingness is a fisherman, driven by despair, sailing to nowhere with all his worldly possessions. As the darkness looms he prepares to end it all and leap... But before he can jump out of his boat, something else jumps in, a mass of colour, an uninvited guest who has finally broken through the sea’s surface to discover what lies above. Fisk is a story of a man and a fish, and the unexpected impact they have upon one another and an exploration of the lengths we can go to in order to escape from ourselves, yet also finds joy in even the deepest and darkest of depths.

We’ve printed the whole price of ticket in the brochure, this includes the booking fee (the only extra you’ll have to pay for is postage, but why not print your own at home?) – there could well be discounts for students, children, over 60s or APA Friends – just ask or check online.

DO I SIT OR STAND?

A bit of both – we try and create the right atmosphere for each gig, some will have seats, some won’t – we’ve tried to list it where we can here. If it says ‘doors’ then that’s when the doors open and you get inside for a drink. If it says ‘start’ that’s when the show starts. Some shows have support acts, we can’t always confirm this until nearer the time and ‘start’ can mean the start of the support act, not the main act

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?

All ages are welcome, but under 16s must be accompanied by an adult, and under 18s can’t be near the bars.
