Yes, it was me who opened his solo venture with a song called Don’t Look Back. I know, I know… However, the release of 2015’s Lloyd Cole and the Commotions Collected Recordings 1983-1989 was received to universal warmth and acclaim, and it sold out far more quickly than UMG anticipated. A second printing is due in March, and a second box is in the works, for September release. To celebrate the release of the new 1983 – 1996 anthology, Lloyd will perform songs exclusively from this classic period. £24.75 LOUNGE (seated)W

Save for a vote of confidence from his primary-school head teacher, who gave him a lead role in an end-of-term production on the strength of his vocal audition, Luke Sital-Singh wasn’t exactly showered with praise for his singing during his childhood and adolescence. This may strike you as surprising (it strikes me as outrageous). The rest of us will need no convincing. We were never going to miss the thing that makes him good. No, make that great.

He is the author of almost 40 internationally bestselling books, many featuring the iconic detective figure Inspector John Rebus - on the go now for 30 years. Ten of the Rebus books were adapted for television, starring first John Hannah then Ken Stott. The books epitomise what has come to be known as Tartan Noir, and like his great Scandinavian counterparts they transcend genre and are rich in social and political comment. His latest book - the 21st featuring Rebus - is Rather Be the Devil.
James Robertson is one of Scotland’s finest novelists who has produced a body of work which is wide in its historical sweep but rich in detail and sharply observed. He tackles big themes - slavery in Joseph Knight, the Lockerbie bombing in in The Professor of Truth, 60 years of social and political change in Scotland in And The Land Lay Still. By contrast, his latest book, To Be Continued… is a surreal and playful romp. He is also a poet and short story writer and has published several collections, many in Scots, as well as books for children. His many awards include the Saltire Prize, which he has won twice.

The main event of our New Voices strand of work this season is our two Silver City Stories projects. In Scotland, 2017 has been designated Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology and Silver City Stories is a city wide summer event that will showcase, celebrate and debate the history and heritage of Aberdeen and its people. Silver City Stories is being supported by Aberdeen City Council, The University of Aberdeen and Visit Aberdeenshire. Also look out for our two latest Scratch Nights which are now performed cabaret style in The Lemon Tree’s Lounge and showcase the very best in new writing, new music and new talent. In support of Climate Week in Aberdeen, 18 – 26 March, we are hosting a second Green Tease – an invitation to all to join in the discussion around the role of arts and culture in creating a sustainable future.
SILVER CITY STORIES We are delighted to be presenting two performances as part of Aberdeen’s Silver City Stories celebrations.
STEPPING OUT
Stolen Voices Stolen Voices is a project for community groups in Aberdeen which transforms overheard snippets of sounds and voices into a new musical composition and performance. The project is being created by artists Rebecca Collins and Johanna Linsley and will, through sound, encourage participants to re-imagine their immediate surroundings and the unstable borders between private and public within communities.
What Country Friends Is This? Did you know that the King’s Players, Shakespeare’s travelling theatre company, visited Aberdeen and Gdansk in Poland in 1601? Inspired by Viola’s story in Twelfth Night, What Country Friends Is This? is a brand new performance weaving together Shakespeare’s text with verbatim testimonies of migration and arrival. The Stolen Voices and What Country Friends Is This? performances will take place at a venue to be confirmed in Aberdeen alongside other Silver City Stories performances over the weekend of Friday 30 June to Sunday 2 July.

We’ve printed the whole price of ticket in the brochure, this includes the booking fee (the only extra you’ll have to pay for is postage, but why not print your own at home?) – there could well be discounts for students, children, over 60s or APA Friends – just ask or check online.
DO I SIT OR STAND?
A bit of both – we try and create the right atmosphere for each gig, some will have seats, some won’t – we’ve tried to list it where we can here. If it says ‘doors’ then that’s when the doors open and you get inside for a drink. If it says ‘start’ that’s when the show starts. Some shows have support acts, we can’t always confirm this until nearer the time and ‘start’ can mean the start of the support act, not the main act
