OPERA DELLA LUNA presents
Die Fledermaus
One of the world’s most famous operettas, Die Fledermaus now gets a glittering new look by the country’s best small-scale opera and operetta company. Opera della Luna have earned themselves a matchless reputation, celebrating over 15 years of acclaimed productions of Gilbert and Sullivan and Offenbach. They now turn their hand to the ‘waltz king’ Johann Strauss and this sparkling score. Dr Falke was once left to wander home, drunk, and dressed as a bat, by his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein. To exact his revenge he arranges for Eisenstein to attend an extremely risqué party at the home of the outrageous Russian aristocrat, Prince Orlofsky. There Eisenstein seduces a mysterious Hungarian countess, who is in fact his own wife in disguise. This entirely new and saucy production is directed – with his own new translation – by Jeff Clarke and designed by Gabriella Csanyi-Wills – the team that created the company’s wonderful recent production of The Mikado. Little stirs the heart more than the sounds a talented performer can coax from a fiddle – whether it’s a thumping good reel or a poignant ballad that can move you to tears. And in the hands of virtuosos such as Aberdeen and Banchory Strathspey & Reel Societies, these magical stringed instruments conjure up an amazing night of Scottish music. For these special performances, the two societies are joined by six exceptional guests, headed by the witty broadcaster and comedian Fred Macaulay, Scotland’s three top tenors Caledon and nimble-fingered accordionist Craig Paton. The evening will be brought together by the skilled compere Jamie MacDougall of Caledon and directed by the Flying Pigs’ Craig Pike. Enjoy the magic and magnetism of Scotland’s traditional music and song, skilfully performed at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Yes, Prime Minister DIRECT FROM THE WEST END
Following a sell-out season at Chichester Festival Theatre and successful West End run, Yes, Prime Minister comes to His Majesty’s Theatre for one week only. The original writers of the classic BBC TV series, Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn have reunited for this anniversary production, and now the Prime Minister Jim Hacker, his Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby and his Private Secretary Bernard Woolley are back in this hilarious new play. In a world of spin, Blackberrys and ‘sexed up’ dossiers, the PM is staring disaster in the face. The country is on the brink of financial meltdown, and the Government’s only apparent salvation comes from a morally dubious deal with the Foreign Minister of Kumranistan. Will Jim Hacker and his team of advisors be able to rescue the country from the edge?

Rigoletto Giuseppe Verdi
Sung in Italian with English Supertitles. Verdi’s towering opera tells a tragic tale. Rigoletto, a jester employed by a rich and dissolute Duke, is forced to keep his master well supplied with fresh conquests. As a web of court intrigue tightens around him, Rigoletto finds himself the victim of a grave curse, but to his horror, it is his carefully protected daughter Gilda who is the one to suffer. From the aching naivety of Gilda’s first love to the Duke’s unthinking revelry and Rigoletto’s tortured realisation of his failure as a father, Verdi takes the characters from elation to despair in an opera densely packed with extraordinary music, including the unforgettable ‘La donna è mobile’. Director Matthew Richardson brings this operatic classic to the stage in a stylish and theatrical production. English baritone Eddie Wade sings Rigoletto, and Edgaras Montvidas (Nemorino in 2009’s The Elixir of Love) is the Duke. Nadine Livingston (Susanna in 2010’s The Marriage of Figaro) rings a fresh innocence to the role of Gilda.

Tell Me on a Sunday Following the sell out 2010 UK tour, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s Tell Me on a Sunday returns to Aberdeen for 2011. Remodeled for Claire Sweeney by the masters of musical theatre, with an exclusive new song Dreams Never Run on Time, this is the definitive version of the classic musical, with a wonderful original score, featuring the chart topping song Take That Look Off Your Face and the title track Tell Me on A Sunday. Originally conceived for television starring Marti Webb, Tell Me on a Sunday has been performed by legendary musical theatre stars Sarah Brightman, Lulu and Denise Van Outen. In 2010 Claire Sweeney stepped into this celebrated role to rave reviews and sell-out audiences. Tell Me on a Sunday charts the romantic misadventures of a young English girl in New York. Brimming with optimism, she seeks success and love. But as she weaves her way through the maze of the city and her own anxieties, frustrations and heartaches she begins to wonder whether she's been looking for love in all the wrong places. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s numerous awards include 7 Tonys, 3 Grammys, 7 Olivier’s, a Golden Globe, an Oscar, 2 Emmys and the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre. Don Black is an Oscar winning lyrist (Born Free) and penned numerous James Bond theme tunes, and chart hits Michael Jackson’s Ben and Lulu’s To Sir With Love.

Journey’s End
Photograph: Jim Marks
Following critical acclaim in the West End, David Grindley's international multi-award winning production of R.C. Sherriff's masterpiece Journey’s End is one of the must sees of British theatre. The play is a tale about ordinary men in extraordinary circumstances that has captured hearts and minds, engaging audiences with a compelling insight of how in the face of adversity, the human spirit will always triumph. Based on the author's experiences at the Front and life in the trenches, this moving play celebrates humour and courage, exposing the impact of war past and present and why in remembrance, sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Basket Case
BY NICK FISHER
Nigel Havers, one of our most popular stage and television actors, stars in this stylish new comedy by BAFTA awardwinning writer Nick Fisher (Manchild, Hustle, Holby City). When Miranda and her ex-husband Guy are drawn back together by the ill health of their elderly pet dog Toby, a fast-paced exchange of accusations begins. Joined in turn by genial vet Martin and long-time family friend James, this rapid-fire foursome mines belly laughs and touching observations in equal measure as the sanctity of family life is torn apart. Basket Case is a perfectly crafted, quick-witted contemporary comedy, which rips the lid off a so-called ‘civilised’ modern divorce and reveals the dark and complex emotions that lurk beneath.

End of the Rainbow
Olivier award-winning Tracie Bennett has taken the West End by storm as Judy Garland in Peter Quilter’s End Of The Rainbow. London, December 1968, and Judy Garland is about to make her comeback... again. Determined to reclaim her crown as the greatest talent of her generation, she battles with a tornado of drugs and alcohol and a gruelling schedule of exhausting concerts at The Talk Of The Town. Despite a series of failed marriages, Judy has her latest and youngest husband-to-be by her side, a man as determined as she that, at any cost, these concerts will mark the revival of her battered career. Tracie Bennett's remarkable portrayal of this tough, talented, compelling woman has been rewarded with standing ovations. This extraordinary production - thrilling, hilarious, moving and tragic - is directed by Tony and Olivier-award winner Terry Johnson and features a six piece onstage band and includes Garland’s most memorable songs The Man That Got Away, Come Rain Or Come Shine, The Trolley Song and -of course - Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Men Should Weep
Written by Ena Lamont Stewart Directed by Graham McLaren Supported by Bank of Scotland Set amid the grinding poverty of Glasgow's infamous tenements in the 1930s, Men Should Weep has long been a favourite with audiences in Scotland. Following the misfortunes and trials and tribulations of the Morrison family, Ena Lamont Stewart’s landmark play is a searing, unflinching depiction of the hand to mouth poverty that many working class people lived in at that time. At the centre of the story and the Morrison family is Maggie, the hard working, care-worn matriarch. Supported and hindered in equal measure by a network of neighbours and family from whom it is impossible to keep any secrets and with whom there is a constant battle to maintain appearances - she does her very best in the worst of circumstances, always putting herself last. By turns laugh out loud funny, at times tragic, but always thought provoking, Men Should Weep was remarkably ahead of its time when written in 1947. This major new production by the National Theatre of Scotland will introduce this much-loved work to a new generation of theatergoers and remind those who have seen it before why it has become universally hailed as a contemporary Scottish classic. BILL KENWRIGHT and LAURIE MANSFIELD in association with UNIVERSAL MUSIC present
Dreamboats and Petticoats Inspired by the smash hit multi-million selling albums Dreamboats and Petticoats One, Two, Three and Four, the West End sell out sensation Dreamboats and Petticoats the musical, featuring some of the greatest hit songs of the Rock ‘n’ Roll era, returns to His Majesty’s Theatre by phenomenal public demand! The dazzling success of the first three albums in the Dreamboats and Petticoats series sent the message loud and clear. With over 2 millions copies sold and several weeks at the Number One spot in the compilation charts, the Great British public were saying that they didn’t just want to listen to pure nostalgia: they’d love to see it as well. Thus ‘Dreamboats’ was born as a musical, opening at The Churchill Theatre in Bromley in February 2009 to rave critical reviews and widespread audience acclaim. Over a million people have since been enchanted by an evening of pure hedonistic affection for a more innocent era, when love was young and so was rock ‘n’ roll. Dreamboats and Petticoats the musical features classic tracks from Roy Orbison, The Shadows, Eddie Cochran, Billy Fury, and many more, including Let’s Dance, To Know Him Is To Love Him, Shaking All Over, Bobby’s Girl, Little Town Flirt, Only Sixteen, Runaround Sue, Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Let It Be Me, Great Pretender, C’mon Everybody, Let’s Twist Again and many more hits from music’s golden era! In 1961 emotions run high as young musicians Norman and Bobby compete to win a national song writing competition – and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue! But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love and rock ‘n’ roll fame beckons… Dreamboats and Petticoats - the songs will live forever!
