Shang-a-Lang Rapture Theatre takes its raunchy and feelgood play – to the Granite City. Take a step back in time to the days of the Bay City Rollers, with loud fashions and, laugh out loud, adult humour . Written by Catherine Johnson (writer of the hit musical Mamma Mia!), Shang-a-Lang follows three flighty fortysomething Scottish women on their way to a 70s revival weekend in Butlins, where the Bay City Rollers are playing. They were all Rollerettes back in the day and decide it is time to recapture their youth, chase their unfulfilled dreams and have a ball while they do it. Lauren tries to stay sober, Jackie tries to stay married and Pauline continues to search for her Woody. Shang-a-Lang is the perfect girls’ night out laced with shocking laughs, warm tears and a fabulous soundtrack - a cross between a Scottish Shirley Valentine and Shameless. BEACH BALLROOM Tuesday 23 Thursday 25 September NATIONAL THEATRE OF SCOTLAND PRESENTS

In Time O’ Strife By Joe Corrie Adapted, designed and directed by Graham McLaren On the 30th anniversary of the 1984 miners’ strike, the National Theatre of Scotland revives Joe Corrie’s 1926 classic play about a Fife mining community buckling under the strain of a seven month lockout. Driven by live, gutsy, folk-punk songs and intense, full-blooded choreography, this uncompromising production is a stark reminder that class conflict between those at the bottom of the social heap and those in power is perennial.

A quintessential English country estate is thrown into chaos following the murder of eccentric inventor Sir Claud Amory, and the theft of his new earth shattering formula. Arriving at the estate just moments too late, one man immediately senses a potent brew of despair, treachery, and deception amid the estate’s occupants. That man is Hercule Poirot. In the first play ever written by Agatha Christie we are introduced to a character who went onto become the most famous detective of all time and the only fictional character ever to receive a full-page obituary in the New York Times.

To Kill a Mockingbird

The Full Monty

Set in the Deep South, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel sees racial injustice envelop a small-town community. Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth, and his feisty daughter, Scout - a young girl on the cusp of adulthood - brings new hope to a neighbourhood in turmoil. This utterly enchanting and enthralling production from London’s award-winning Regent’s Park Theatre captures the warmth and poignancy of this best-loved classic with genuine heart and emotional depth. A story as moving and magical as you could ever hope to find.

In 1997, a British film about six out of work Sheffield steelworkers took the world by storm. Now, they’re back and they’re live on stage. And this time, will they really go The Full Monty? With songs from the film by Donna Summer, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones, The Full Monty is one huge package of laughs and emotions coming to Aberdeen direct from London’s West End.

Strictly Come Dancing Starring PASHA KOVALEV and KATYA VIRSHILAS and their spectacular dancers. The BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing returned to our screens in earnest last year and achieved new heights and that is something that this spectacular new live theatre show featuring two stars from the hit show will most definitely do! But not content with all that, the show will also feature the opportunity for the audience to get involved and dance on-stage with the stars resulting in this production being the ultimate one for any ‘Strictly’ fan!

In 2014 Michael Clark Company returns to Aberdeen with a new work set to a soundtrack by Relaxed Muscle, Scritti Politti and Sex Pistols amongst others. The Crucible with Ten Poems

The Nutcracker

A unique opportunity to see two iconic and emotionally charged texts brought to life through breathtaking performances from Scottish Ballet’s extraordinarily athletic and expressive dancers. WORLD PREMIERE The Crucible (2014) Choreographer: Helen Pickett Based on Arthur Miller’s 1953 Tony award-winning play, Pickett’s second creation for Scottish Ballet layers rich, evocative characterisations in a story of opposites robed in sexual sin, translating this incredible ramatization of the Salem witch trials with her inimitable style of dance language. This chilling tale of innocent people destroyed by a malicious rumour will captivate you with its spellbinding sensuality and capacity to provoke and question. UK PREMIERE Ten Poems (2009) Choreographer: Christopher Bruce Set to an emotive recording of ten Dylan Thomas poems read by Welsh actor Richard Burton, Ten Poems builds on the melodic rhythm of the famous prose, loved as much for their musicality as for their themes of lost innocence, nostalgia for childhood, and death. Christopher Bruce, one of Britain’s most prolific and important choreographers, brings each one to life with exquisite vignettes of story and character. Tue & Wed 7.30pm

Thursday 12 & Saturday 14 June SCOTTISH OPERA PRESENTS PUCCINI’S

Madama Butterfly Classic, timeless and stylish, Sir David McVicar’s Madama Butterfly has been a firm favourite since it was first staged in 2000. Brought to life through a cast of very human characters, this hugely atmospheric production lays bare a poignant story that still has the power to affect, over a century after it was first performed. The world’s most popular opera, Butterfly sees Puccini doing what he does best – writing beautiful music that is dramatic and full of emotion. Resident at the Southbank Centre and Glyndebourne Festival, the OAE continues to explore, question and reinvent, working with world-class musicians along the way including principal artists Sir Mark Elder and Sir Simon Rattle. Orchestra leader Matthew Truscott directs a programme centred around the Scottish premiere performance of Spinal Chords, a work for orchestra and narrator by Scottish composer Sally Beamish. The text for the work was written by award-winning journalist Melanie Reid, who broke her neck and back in a riding accident in 2010. The OAE commissioned the piece as part of the London 20x12 Cultural Olympiad. The concert in the Music Hall, performed entirely using period instruments, also includes some of the best-loved ensemble repertiore of the Baroque era. 7.30pm

Little Victories

What is it with us and smallness? We Brits love it - being tiny but fierce, close but distant. This Jedward-haired awardwinning twat is the same, and he returns with a new blisteringly big-small show. Watch him ejaculate thoughts about smallness; on keeping things small when life gets big. “A seriously good comedian.” The Times “Russell Kane delivers magic in spades.” The Scotsman “A smart, probing brain lurks below the vertiginous quiff” The Evening Standard

Following the sell out success of his longawaited return to stand up, Alan Davies returns with his highly anticipated follow up show, Little Victories. Much lauded as resident dunderhead on QI or the charming but reticent crime solver Jonathan Creek, Davies virtuosic story-telling and whip-smart funny bones combine to make this a show not to be missed. “Had the audience in stitches…hilarious” **** The Age “Alan Davies has lost none of his appeal… heart-tugging and deeply funny” Big Issue **** “One of the best Stand-up comics out there…. packed with deft silliness and shrewd observation” The Guardian

Denise Mina Denise Mina is the brightest star in the dazzling firmament of Scottish crime writers and her work achieves that rare balance of being hugely popular and critically acclaimed. She has published eleven novels, most recently The Red Road, and won a host of awards. She also writes comics, including Hellblazer and has adapted the Stieg Larsson Millennium trilogy as graphic novels. Prolific, versatile and prodigously talented, she is also a witty, incisive and , above all, entertaining speaker. “One of the most exciting writers to have emerged in Britain for years” Ian Rankin. 1pm (meal deal available from 12pm)

An Evening With George Galloway As the independence referendum draws ever closer, George Galloway will be passionately putting his case forward for Scotland to remain part of the United Kingdom. George will be speaking on a range of issues affecting the people of Scotland and he will be dismissing the grudge politics of the Scottish nationalists in creating an ‘us vs them’ mentality. George believes that the UK is not separated by borders and sign posts but by class, power and greed. If you want to witness this and interact with George on these issues then come along to Just Say Naw! An Evening with George Galloway.

“The world’s greatest living explorer.” The Guinness Book of Records

With the Scottish Open visiting Aberdeen this summer we are proud to bring Sir Nick Faldo to the Music Hall. Following a career that has included over 40 tournament victories, six Major wins and a record 11 Ryder Cup appearances, he is today recognised as the most successful golfer that Britain has ever produced. Through the creation of his company Faldo Enterprises, Faldo has also become a prolific success away from the course. Faldo has also been causing a stir on the airwaves, rather than fairways, having launched a new career as a television commentator with his natural, insightful presence in the commentary booth.

Elaine C Smith, His Majesty’s Theatre’s stellar panto star brings us her hugely successful one woman show. An hilarious mix of intelligent stand up, story telling and music. A great night out! One of Scotland’s finest entertainers, Smith is a great all round comedienne, actress writer, singer and general raconteur. She has all the swagger and confidence gained from a career spanning 30 years in theatre, television and film from starring roles in Naked Video (BBC), City Lights (BBC), Rab C Nesbitt (BBC) and her own TV series Elaine (BBC) to the recently award winning UK tours of Calendar Girls and the Susan Boyle musical I Dreamed a Dream. “Elaine C Smith is a National Treasure” The Herald

British Comedy Award 2013 Nominee Jon Richardson is checking his tyre pressures, hoovering his floor mats and putting an emergency packed lunch in the boot of his car, ready to hit the road again with a brand new tour Nidiot. The perennial singleton and misanthrope is determined to become a more easygoing person for the sake of his friends and his future health. Jon is best known as team captain on 8 Out Of 10 Cats. He is massively in demand for television and radio appearances. His recent TV credits include Have I Got News For You (BBC ONE), Live At The Apollo (BBC ONE), and Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC TWO). “one of our most individual and interesting stand-ups” **** The Times

To celebrate the publication of his third volume of diaries, Travelling To Work, Michael Palin presents a brand new two-part stage show, looking back at twenty-five years of exploring the world and nearly fifty years in radio, television, books and films. The first half is a whistle-stop tour of the globe. Highlights and lowlights, adventures and cock-ups, all vividly illustrated with a special selection of photos and footage shot during the eight TV travel series that began with Around The World in Eighty Days. In the second half of the show, Michael takes a free-wheeling look back at the other side of his life - the love of comedy that took him from schoolboy in Sheffield to Python at the O2. Lots of memories, with one thing in common. A love of laughter.

Following 14 sell-out tours, the king of improvisational comedy is back with another mind-blowing UK tour. Ross Noble will be showcasing his talent in brand new UK show, Tangentleman. With an on-stage presence like no other, his exuberance, spontaneity and cerebral style have established him as one of Britain’s bestloved comedians. Tin Forest – APA are one of ten youth theatres from around the commonwealth to create a piece of theatre inspired by The Tin Forest by Helen Ward and Wayne Anderson. The piece will be performed in Glasgow during the commonwealth games as part of The National Theatre of Scotland’s Tin Forest festival. American Conservatory Theater – We are embarking on another two year exchange project with ACT from San Francisco. This summer both groups will come together to work with Scottish playwright, Jodie Marshall on a newly commissioned play about the theme of independence. Both groups will then produce the play in their home theatres in November. We are still looking for talented young actors aged 15 – 18 who would like to audition for this opportunity. Please get in touch with the creative learning team for more information.
