“This gritty retelling harnesses the emotional outpouring of contemporary ballet and stages it with the evocative theatricality of a West End show… truly breathtaking” Aberdeen Evening Express

Sung in Italian with English Supertitles. When Mimi and Rodolfo meet, they fall hopelessly for each other - but the course of true love rarely runs smoothly. It’s a familiar tale, and one that rings true in any era. Tony Award-winning director Stewart Laing updates the action to the modern art scene of 21st century New York, where dreams of riches are too easily lost in the chaos of the city that never sleeps… Puccini’s passionate and evocative music carries the young lovers from heart-stopping romance to heart-breaking loss as their story tumbles towards its conclusion. From tender arias to fiery waltzes, La bohème perfectly captures the passion and the pain of being young, poor and in love.

PETER PAN

by JM Barrie. In a new version by David Greig.

All children, except one, grow up.

7.30pm, Thur 2pm, Sat 2.30pm

PETER PAN Peter Pan is a coproduction between the National Theatre of Scotland and the Barbican

Directed by John Tiffany Designed by Laura Hopkins Sound Designer – Gareth Fry Lighting Designer – Guy Hoare Musical Director – Davey Anderson Illusion Designer – Jamie Harrison Puppet Consultant & Maker – Gavin Glover

Peter Pan is presented by arrangement with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Samuel French Limited

The National Theatre of Scotland brings Peter Pan home in 2010, presenting a brand new version of one of the most influential and magical stories ever told by a Scottish writer, in what will be the 150th anniversary of the birth of JM Barrie. Directed by the National Theatre of Scotland’s own Olivier Award-winning John Tiffany and written by multi award-winning Scottish playwright David Greig (Midsummer, The Bacchae) this Peter Pan reimagines the Darling family in Victorian Edinburgh. Peter’s impish arrival into the lives of Wendy, John and Michael is the beginning of a thrilling, deliciously naughty, eerie escapade. Razor-sharp fights, virtuoso flying sequences, acrobats, ticking crocodiles and one great big hook will ensure the whole family is drawn into this distinctly Caledonian other-worldly adventure. Peter Pan is ideal for the young at heart aged 7 & over.

SUNSET SONG

THE SILVER DARLINGS

By Lewis Grassic Gibbon Adapted by Alastair Cording Directed by Kenny Ireland Sunset Song follows the life of Chris Guthrie from her teenage years on a small farm and explores her relationships with her brother and domineering father. After the death of her parents, the story examines her relationship with her first love and others following his death. The novel conjures up the feel of life in the Mearns with the sights, sounds and language of the area. It gives a wonderful feeling of rural life in Scotland and of the impact of the First World War on the young men who went to the war and on the families left behind.

From the novel by Neil M Gunn Adapted by Peter Arnott Directed by Kenny Ireland Neil M Gunn’s The Silver Darlings is an epic adventure story, and one of the best loved novels of the 20th Century. Set in the early days of the herring fisheries around the Scottish coast, it combines human emotion with stormy dangerous seas in the story of a boy growing to manhood, of a man and woman finding love in the face of tragedy, and of a community recovering from the Highland Clearances to forge a new way of life from the forbidding, unpredictable ocean.

“Grassic Gibbon stands alone as the greatest writer the North-east has ever produced”

“What emerges, in the end, is a tremendously successful piece of popular theatre, not subtle, but pacey, professional and full of passion”

THE LYRIC MUSICAL SOCIETY PRESENTS

THE PRODUCERS

IN ASSOCIATION WITH ARCHWAY

Hot on the heels of their last production at His Majesty’s Theatre, the highflying ‘The Witches of Eastwick’, Lyric is delighted to be bringing the fantastic musical ‘The Producers’ to the North-East. ‘The Producers’ is based on the 1968 American comedy film written and directed by Mel Brooks, subsequently adapted for stage, which tells the story of Max Bialystock, a theatrical producer, and Leo Bloom, a timid accountant who attempt to cheat their investors by finding the worst play ever written – ‘Springtime For Hitler’ – and turning this into a full-scale Broadway musical – with hilarious consequences! If you enjoy a good laugh, albeit a bit tongue-in-cheek, then this show is for you!

CHESS

Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood directs an amazing company in an extraordinary new staging of the classic musical CHESS. Written by Tim Rice and ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, CHESS has one of the greatest musical theatre scores of all time including One Night In Bangkok, Pity The Child, Anthem, You And I and, of course, I Know Him So Well, which became a number one hit for Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson. Craig Revel Horwood has previously won huge critical acclaim for his thrilling productions of Boublil and Schönberg’s Martin Guerre, Spend Spend Spend, Hot Mikado and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, which transferred to the West End. His regular collaborator, Musical Supervisor and Orchestrator Sarah Travis, won the Tony Award for her work on the Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd.

CELEBRATING THE FIDDLE THE UNTHANKS A SPECIAL LAUNCH CONCERT

Using a kaleidoscope of unlikely instruments, their unique approach to storytelling involves the complex relationship between modernism and learning from the past. Staunch traditionalism and sonic adventure ought to be polar opposites, yet they are easy bedfellows in the gentle hands of The Unthanks; the British counterpart to the leftfield folk leanings of Sufjan Stevens, Tom Waits and Fleet Foxes.

One of the greatest living Schubertians, he is at the piano for the sonata and on the podium for the symphony. It’s a deeply enjoyable combination: Schubert up close and personal (he himself must have played this sonata), and also Schubert the visionary: the symphony was never heard in his lifetime because everyone believed it was too difficult to play.
