The fascination with the lotus plant started when I entered a group painting challenge during COVID 19. The challenge was to paint a flower a day and it was recommended to find one from your own surroundings and I could find only this small Blue lotus in my mother’s home-made pond. The painting came out really well which made me want to paint some more of it. So, I went looking for more ponds, looked on the internet and asked friends for reference images and that’s how the series started. Learning about its heritage and reverence in many cultures added further inspiration to progress in confidence in creating my artistic interpretation of the Lotus. It’s most significant aspect in my opinion is its beginnings within its surroundings. The lotus flower though idolized, cannot be what it is on 38
