elcome 2021!

e are thrilled to have come to the end of a year that will be

remembered through history as the year that halted humanity.

Since the pandemic, I must confess writing this letter has been a challenge, trying to focus on the positive while so many are still struggling. Of course, it’s easy to draw attention to things that are different from this time last year. Hanukkah and Christmas will, no doubt, be celebrated – but it won’t be the same for many. Large family gatherings will be canceled; maybe there will be an empty chair at your dinner table due to the health crisis. A “virtual” New Year's celebration on TV…? Some things in life go to never come back. Time tops the list. 2020 took a lot of things along with it, but at the same time, it did leave us with a legacy of many valuable lessons. Now that we are facing a new year, a new decade, a new administration, and a new understanding of our fragility, new opportunities for Houstonians rise from the horizon. Let's make 2021 our best year yet! I pray that your family is well. Please accept my very best wishes to you and your loved ones this holiday season. May God bless you abundantly!

Post-2020 | Vision 2021 NEW YEAR'S CONSIDERATIONS By Martin Gondra

58

As January 1st, 2021 approaches, it turns out there are a Team Zero and a Team 1 – those who believe the new decade began after midnight on the New Year's Eve of 2019, and those who believe the burgeoning celebrations of a new decade (and all the "last decade" retrospectives) are in fact happening now.

cal Society says he doesn't think his group has adopted an official position on the matter — but he adds, "History is clear: Because there was no Year Zero, the first decade of the common era (CE or AD) was years 1 to 10, the second decade was years 11 to 20, and the next decade will be years 2021 to 2030."

Almost two thirds of Americans believe the second decade began on Jan. 1, 2020, and end on Dec. 31, 2029. Nearly 20% aren't sure – and slightly fewer people think the next decade won't start until Jan. 1, 2021. On this question, most voices of authority are with the minority. They say that because there was no Year Zero when the current era began more than 2,000 years ago, all decades, centuries and millenia begin with Year 1.

Part of the issue, he and others say, is our use of "decade" as a frame of cultural reference. "The reason people get confused is because we tend to think of decades as 'the 20s' or 'the 30s,' Fienberg says. "It's true that 'the 20s' — that is, the period 2020 to 2029 — is a decade, i.e., 10 years, but in terms of keeping track of decades from a calendrical (rather than cultural) perspective, the decades are counted as noted above."

"The next decade won't start until Jan. 1, 2021" - Sandi Duncan, the managing editor of the Farmers' Almanac, recently told NPR's Morning Edition. When asked about the dispute, Rick Fienberg of the American Astronomi-

Having clarified this issue, and just for the sake of argument, taking part with Team 2 and the experts, let's now focus on what will begin to take place on January 1st:

2021

doesn't just bring us very close to the ending of this pandemic night mare (and that is, hoping the conspiracy theory about a Covid-21 is just that, and that the vaccine proves to be indeed effective); it's a lot more complex than that, but that's another conversation. 2021 is not a New Year as we know it. We will all be facing a completely new experience. Consider this: New Year, New Decade (now well into the 21st century), New Administration (provided Trump concedes to President-elect Joe Biden, which to the closing of this edition, still hasn't happened), New Post-Pandemic Reality (at personal, family, social, financial, political and religious levels), are just a few of the many reasons why 2021 won't be just another year. As 2020 was for the absolute majority of humanity -if not all-, the most uncertain, unprecedented, and complex year in the last four and

a half millenniums, 2021 promises to be quite challenging as it carries all the complications of what the coronavirus left behind, now facing the multiple preferences of those in power (politicians, religious leaders, the mega-wealthy, media organizations, and the underground occultists). And I'm just talking about the United States. I'm not even touching the reality of other nations and cultures, which in a city such as Houston -the most diverse in the country-, bring into the equation an additional set of challenges. Having said all of the above, let's focus on the adventure at hand: Setting yourself up for success (or survival?) in a changing world. Please allow me to share some ideas of goals that may or may not necessarily all apply to you, but which will hopefully widen your vision:

#1 - Kill the Dream Killer

#2 - Empower your Ability to Act

"Procrastination", the killer of all dreams and opportunities, is still alive and well. Most people embrace it and allow it to control their lives, leaving most everything for "tomorrow". The road of "tomorrow" is the fastest way to get to the land of "nowhere". Note that those who leave things for "later", soon push them to tomorrow. Tomorrow becomes next week, next month, next year, and suddenly years passed you by, and dreams that could have become a reality, finally die forever.

"Knowledge is power" claims the popular belief. Well, not really. Knowledge is "potential power". True power is the ability to act upon what we know. This is a very simple distinction.

Just as a simple exercise, think about the goals you so firmly set for 2020 a year ago. How many -if any- did actually become a reality? We both know the answer. You can blame it on Covid-19, and in some cases, this may really excuse you this one time around, but what is it going to be this year? Another chain of failures? The worst part of all is that every time you fail to accomplish something you commited to, you are telling yourself how weak and unreliable you are. And your mind ends up buying into this. It's the perfect trap to set you up for failure before you even get started. Show yourself that your decisions are worth something. Make the firm determination that the very first thing you will do this year is kill the dream killer, and follow through with whatever you plan to do, and get it started immediately and completed as soon as you possibly can. Make this a habit. And start with the smallest tasks. A telephone call, a small activity, a meeting that you have been postponing. Usually, because these may seem to be insignificant tasks, we tend to think it's OK to leave them for later. But think about it: if you can't complete the little things, how do you expect to succeed at the big ones? Start with both, small, and big goals. Take the firm decision that whatever it is that needs to be done, you will get it done, immediately. Once this becomes a habit, you'll be amazed at how things in your life will rapidly turn around.

60

Think about it. Knowing that smoking is slowly killing you is a great piece of information; understanding that pride is in the root of all of our problems is another powerful distinction (just think about this one); or knowing that eating well and exercising will have an impact in your physical and mental health, and your overall performance, is a basic understanding, but there is no intrinsic power in knowing all of the above. Certainly, they are great pieces of information, and a good starting point, but only if you turn them into action. Knowledge in itself, unless enacted upon, is actually a major curse. When based on your knowledge you realize that you shouldn't be doing something, and you still do it, you are screaming into your own ears: "I'm a fool", "I'm weak". How empowering can that be? Make the firm resolution that you will start taking action. And not just mild forms of action. Talke massive, organized, consistent action. Massive action is unlimited power and success. Don't waste your time on unimportant things. Focus on what will allow you to move towards achieving your goals. Don't let anything or anyone get you derailed with distractions. Do all you can, the best you can. Don't settle for staying where you are. Study, learn, grow, improve. Your ability to work decisively on your important tasks will contribute as much to your success as any other discipline you can master.

#3 - List your Goals Whatever things you need to see happening in your life, it needs to happen this year, and they need to start happening now. Write them down. What you don't write, you will never do. It's a must to have a list of definite goals. Be specific. Write, draw, design your goals. Stick photos on your list that illustrate your goals. Photos of a house, a car, your perfect body, a happy family, whatever it is you are looking to accomplish. Once you embed it as a reality in your mind, and you have it in writing, post it in your home where you see it every day. Think about it every morning, during your Hour of Power. Make that image your goal. Failure to achieve that goal is not an option. Short-term goals must be met first. If you fail in today's simple goals, surely you will not achieve weekly, nor monthly goals, much less the annual ones.

Your failure to complete your goals today, absolutely guarantees your failure for long-term goals. You must act massively today in achieving your goals for the day. To lose 50 pounds in 2021, you must first lose two ounces today. To lift 50 pounds at the gym by the end of the year, you must first lift five pounds TODAY! You must visualize a clear and detailed image in your mind of what you want. Everything that comes true in our life, began with a thought. Thoughts always materialize. Persist in a thought (obviously reasonable thoughts; do not think that one day you will grow wings and will suddenly fly), and without a doubt, if you take massive action, the goals in your list will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

#4 - Start your Day with your Hour of Power This year make it a must setting up aside time for yourself, in the morning, before you get started with your daily activities. Ideally a full hour. This requires a special place, by yourself, in silence, with no distractions. It will also require getting up an hour earlier, which may also mean having to develop a habit to go to bed an hour earlier in order to get enough rest, which may also require some other minor adjustments. But believe me, it's well worth it. Success doesn't happen by accident, without adjustments, and even sacrifices.

In those sixty minutes there is so much opportunity, so much to gain, so many distinctions to make, so much to discover, so much energy to absorb, so much to learn, and grow.

A morning Hour of Power should be a part of everyone's life. This is your time for empowering. And don't confuse your hour of power with your hour at the gym or exercising. They are completely different things. By the way, both should happen, but the Hour of Power should always go first.

This is the time to plan, and make small and big decisions. This is the time to look at your list of goals and determine what steps you will take today to advance towards their accomplishment. It's also a great time to make adjustments to that list, if needed. Changing your list is a healthy sign of growth and improvement.

#5 - Continue your Education

#6 - Take Control of your Health

Most of us spend quite a substantial amount of time sitting in the car commuting to and from our office or place of business. This is called "dead time". Why not turn this 30, 40, 60 of whatever length of time into productive education? I personally spend a minimum of 6 to 10 hours per week driving to different places. Of course, I do take advantage of that time to make some calls, and a few minutes to get up to speed with the news (by the way I got out of the nonsense of getting hooked listening to just one station in my satellite radio; if you want to get a balanced handle on reality, you must listen to both Fox and CNN, and understand when it is time to turn the radio off). But years ago I learned to maximize the use of my dead time by studying. There is so much fantastic education and coaching you can acquire by listening to selective audios from experts in any areas of your choice. Imagine what you can add to your knowledge in 5 or 8 hours per week. If you haven't developed this great habit, 2021 is the perfect time to start.

If there is one thing we all had to learn the hard way in 2020, is how fragile we are, and how important it is to be healthy. A very important goal to pursue in 2021, is to live an even healthier lifestyle than whatever we were forced to accomplish this past 9 months.

If you are a believer, this will be your perfect time to read, meditate, and pray. This is your time to be grateful for the many blessings that surround your life, and consider what needs to be corrected.

There are 8 irrefutable, Top Priority steps to a healthy, strong, fit you. I won't elaborate on any of them, as they are common knowledge. Remember what we said about acting upon what we know? That's what marks the difference between being wise and being a fool. 1- Eat healthy (stay away as much as possible from the worst killer: sugars). 2- Drink plenty of water. 3- Absorb sunlight. 4- Exercise daily. 5- Practice proper hygiene. 6- Rest enough. 7- Breathe fresh air. 8- Trust God. If you do enough of these 8 keys, you'll guarantee a healthier, longer, smarter, and happier life.

Jeff Bezos

?

THE WORLD'S FIRST

TRILLIONAIRE Jeff Bezos, Amazon's 56-year-old founder and the world's richest person, has seen his fortune swell $74 billion in 2020 to $189.3 billion, despite the U.S. entering its worst economic downturn since the Great Depression. He's now personally worth more than the market valuation of giants such as Exxon Mobil Corp., Nike Inc. Breaking the amount down more, Bezos is making about $321 million a day, $13.4 million an hour, $222,884 a minute, and $3,715 a second this year. The largest single-day increase in Bezos's net worth is $13 billion, which he achieved on July 20, 2020. He could buy 1,300 Lamborghinis every day, and still be ahead of the game. Even as the coronavirus pandemic rages across the world, the world's richest are estimated to grow their wealth in the coming years. Amazon founder and CEO could potentially become the world's first trillionaire as early as 2026, at which point he will be aged 62.

62

By Alfredo Peñalosa

Bezos likes spending his fortune on real estate across the US, a $65 million Gulfstream Jet, and his space exploration company, Blue Origin. He aklso owns the most extraordinary collection of exotic automobiles. Yet, interestinly enough, he chose a Honda Accord in 1997 and still drives a newer generation of the same car. He just this year bought the most expensive house ever sold in Los Angeles, the Warner Estate, for $165 million. The property was originally built by Jack Warner, founder of Warner Bros., in the 1930's. How would you imagine the daily routine of the world’s richest man would look like? Well, not quite as you’d expect. He likes to start his in a slow and calm fashion. After getting his standard 8 hours of sleep every night, Bezos likes to cafe his cup of coffee and read the newspaper.

While he doesn’t like to have meetings before 10 am, Bezos also doesn’t like to make any diffcult decisions after 5 pm as well, so there’s a 10 am to 5 pm window where a bulk of his decision-making gets done, “I like to do my high-I.Q. meetings before lunch. Anything that’s going to be really mentally challenging, that’s a 10 am meeting." By 5 pm, he likes to move business decisions to next day. This is a great way for him to avoid decision fatigue. Similarly, Bezos likes to stick to making three good decisions per day, a strategy that Warren Buffet also uses. He says that "as a senior executive, you get paid to make a small number of high-quality decisions. Your job is not to make thousands of decisions every day. Is that really worth it if the quality of those decisions might be lower because you’re tired or grouchy? If I make, like, three good decisions a day, that’s enough. Warren Buffett says he’s good if he makes three good decisions a year." On the related topic of work-life balance, Bezos opts for work-life harmony, “I think work-life harmony is a good framework. I prefer the word “harmony” to the word “balance” because balance tends to imply a strict tradeoff. In fact, if I’m happy at work, I’m better at home — a better husband and better father. And if I’m happy at home, I come into work more energized — a better employee and a better colleague.”

The Importance of

HOME By Kathy Anderson

Reflecting on all that we have faced with the beginning of a new decade, a pandemic, a presidential election, social unrest, and natural disasters, one thing keeps coming into focus: the importance of home. 2020 indeed has had its share of challenges, but because of those challenges, we have all had the opportunity to reprioritize and discover what is truly essential in our lives. When the pandemic hit and we all stayed home, our thoughts focused very quickly to what the word ‘home’ meant to each of us personally. Home has taken on new importance as it literally has become our place of refuge, safety, and peace, and with this focus has come new trends in home design. As our homes quickly became our everything, it has also become very important to have more defined spaces for family gathering, personal renewal, work, and entertaining. Looking into 2021, here are some of the home design trends that we are seeing as a result of living through 2020.

KITCHEN Homes are really all about the kitchen. It is where life centers. A custom kitchen, designed to cater to the way you cook, eat, and gather, will add value to your home and your life. Because the kitchen has become the hub of social activity even more, we’ve seen a continued trend in open floorplan kitchen renovations, which include many amenities such as islands, multiple sinks, larger refrigerators, and other customized appliances. Beautiful countertops, fabulous hardware, and an exquisite lighting plan are also priorities in the kitchen. With a new warmth and comfort associated with these trends, the kitchen becomes a pseudo second family room. Kitchen Favorite: Natural stone countertops and walls create a beautiful focal point. Quartzite is a fabulous option for natural materials. There are also some amazing porcelains on the market that are not only beautiful but are a ‘work horse.’ I, personally, am not a fan of marble in the kitchen. I know there is a lot of debate on this, and yes, marble is absolutely gorgeous and yes, it will patina over time, but typically, a LONG time. There is a big maintenance issue and if your kitchen is just for ‘show’, then go for it. But if you really live in your kitchen, I would suggest other products that perform much better and are easier to live with.

BATHROOM With the stress and chaos that we all live with, a resurgence of creating a space to renew and relax is essential for self-care. Bathrooms are an interesting space to design because they are so private. This allows for a lot of creativity in the aesthetics. A well-planned bathroom, catered to the way each client personally finds ways to renew and refresh, can serve as a spa-like retreat. Statement slabs in the shower, mixed with different tiles and textures and plumbing finishes, can bring an elegance that creates a peaceful haven to start and end your day. Bathroom Favorite: Having a beautiful, comfortable bathtub available creates space for effortless relaxation that is not replicated by any other home amenity.

HOME OFFICE As the majority of the workforce moved home this spring, spaces that had served other purposes, were quickly transformed into home offices. We are seeing a trend now to design these work from home spaces to be organized, functional, and also fun, as you add personality to the space you spend so much time in. 2020 has given us all the gift of time at home to analyze your life, goals, and what you are ultimately wanting for your own personal space. Office spaces tend to be a catch-all and sometimes chaotic. Letting go of “things and holding onto just a few statement pieces that you love can give you a sense of purpose and freedom as your home meets every need you have. Simplify your life and your home. You will be happier for it. Home Office Favorite: Layered lighting is functional and fabulous. Lighting is so important in an office space. Window and lighting placement make a huge difference in the look, feel, and usability of a space. Including a designer as early as possible in the construction or renovation planning process is highly recommended, as the details decided in the earliest phases of design determine the final aesthetic and functional feel of a space.

HOME BAR AREA When remodeling, more homeowners are wanting to incorporate a bar area into their home. With the trend of entertaining at home becoming more commonplace, along with the recent “stay at home” mandates around the globe, specialty spaces in the home set aside for entertaining have been utilized more than ever. Whether that is a wine storage space, a bar or beverage serving area, or a full-on lounge, the typical homeowner is looking to have that special place in their home to “belly up to the bar!” Interior designers love this trend in home design because it offers an opportunity to utilize significant spaces for practical needs, while also offering the chance to create an unexpected and exciting focal point. A beverage serving area can add beauty and function to your home and can be utilized not only for intimate personal or family time but for entertaining clients or friends.

76

Bar Area Favorite: Creative storage options can add visual interest to the space. A flashy or exotic backsplash is usually a good place to start. Shelves that hold liquor or beautiful wine racks add to the decor, while below the counter cabinets can hide various bar tools and appliances to keep the area uncluttered. Storing glasses is best when in a closed cabinet and even better if that door has glass and lighting on the inside for drama. Looking ahead: Even as we hope life will soon return to ‘normal,’ we can be grateful for what we have gained this year in wisdom as we have refocused our priorities. Here is to looking forward to 2021, and to holding on to this new-found focus, hoping it will remain as we take more time to savor every aspect of life at home.

S

TAKE THE LEAD Towards a Positive Future Divorce is not an unfortunate event, the tragedy is staying in a broken marriage. If you are thinking of getting divorced, wanting to filing a modification, or a suit affecting the parent child relationship, here is a brief overview of how the process would work. If it is not an agreed matter, it would be classified as a contested matter. Whether the case is contested or not determines how long the case will take from start to finish. For example, in an uncontested divorce, the case can be started and completed within 61 days. Generally speaking, a case that is contested will last about a year. If you are afraid to file for divorce because your spouse or spouse’s family has threatened to take your child/children out of the county and not return, that information would be relayed to the Court to prevent this. If this is the case, when the initial petition for divorce is filed, a temporary restraining order can also be filed asking for temporary custody and for the child/children not to be removed from your care. You will need to attach a notarized statement detailing all of the issues and the fear you have. After the process has begun, the parties will likely attend mediation, and if no agreement can be made, then the Court will decide what to do. When it comes to the child/children, one big fact the Court will look at is who is the primary person that has cared for the child/children.

84

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO STOP YOU FROM GETTING A DIVORCE. If you are in a situation where there is domestic violence, there are places in Houston and surrounding areas that can help you such as the Houston Area Women’s Center. Places such as this can help with more than just a place to stay; most can assist with finding a job or getting back in school depending on what you want to do. In cases of domestic violence, whether it is by a spouse or an intimate partner, the Court takes that into consideration when it comes to determining conservatorship of the child/ren, visitation, and property division. There is a common misconception when it comes to domestic violence. People often believe, and are told by non-attorneys, that if there is any kind of domestic violence between the parties, that automatically means that the person that committed the domestic violence will be excluded from the child’s life or visitation will be supervised. This is a misconception because domestic violence is not the only determining factor in visitation. If the children were not present when the domestic violence occurred, there is a high burden that has to be met in order for the party to be put on supervised visits or have no access to the children.

WHAT IS MEDIATION? Mediation is used to see if the two parties can come to an agreement on their own rather than having a Judge decide what should happen. There is a neutral third- party present to help facilitate this process. The best thing about mediation is that the two parties can come up with custom agreements that fit their lives instead of the standard that would get applied by the Court. Most counties in the surrounding areas are requiring mediation before a final trial. In Harris county, almost all of the Family Courts are requiring mediation before a temporary order hearing and before a final trial. In certain cases, a party can request that the mediation requirement be waived; however, this is only a request and the Court can still make the parties attempt mediation. If the parties can come to an agreement outside of mediation, the Court will generally accept that without making the parties attend mediation. If you have been married for at least ten years, you may be eligible for spousal maintenance (commonly known as alimony). Spousal maintenance is not automatic. There are many other factors that are considered when the Court is deciding whether to authorize spousal maintenance as well such as the disparity in earning capacity and if you are the spouse that stayed home and took care of the children. The Court will also look to the division of property to determine if spousal maintenance is warranted. If the Court grants the request for spousal maintenance, there will be a time frame put on it; it will not last forever. Often times, if it is granted, it will be for about six months or less. The key thing to remember in a case that has to do with children is that the Court is going to look at what is in the best interest of the child. Court would rather have parties work things out, either with each other directly or using attorney’s, but understand that is not always possible. The Courts are there as the trier of fact when party’s need them. If you have any specific questions or would like to schedule a consultation, you can give our office a call and we would be happy to help you.

amily Petitions, Sponsors, and Public Charge Rule

Immigration laws allow U.S. Citizens and Legal Permanent Residents to petition legal status for their family members with foreign nationalities. There are two categories of family-based immigrant etitions, immediate relative petitions and family preference petitions. The category of each petition is based on the relationship between the petitioning and benefiting family members. Such relationships may include spouses, parents, minor unmarried children, minor married children, adult children, brothers, and/or sisters. To qualify for a family petition, the petitioning and benefiting family member must (1) prove to have a bona fide relationship between each other, (2) prove that the petitioning family member will be able to support the benefiting family member financially, and (3) that they will not be a "public charge" for the government. On February 24, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security enforced the I-944 "Public Charge" rule, which is used to establish if someone is deemed inadmissible because they are likely to become a "public charge" for the government. Since then, multiple changes have been made to this rule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to contact an experienced immigration attorney, like Sandra Gomez, for more detailed and updated information, as this "Public Charge" rule could highly impact your case.

Student Visas and OPT Programs International students seeking to enroll in a school in the U.S. may seek to acquire a F, M, or J visa. The most common type of student visa is the F-1 visa. Through this visa, international students are given an Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation. OPT allows students to remain in the U.S. legally and work in their field area after graduation for a period of 12 months. These 12 months can be extended for students who graduate from STEM field programs, which include science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. These extensions can be for 17 additional months. After the expiration of their OPT an international student may acquire an employment visa through his/her employer. The employer must act as the student's sponsor and will need to contact an immigration attorney directly for more information on employment visas. Some employment visas that may considered are E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, H-2A, H-2B, L-1, O-1, or TN visas.

88

Other Available Visas L-1 visas are for employees of international companies that have offices abroad and in the United States. This visa allows for employees to intra-company transfer to the United States and to bring their immediate family members with them. There are two categories of L-1 visas. L-1A visas, which are for executives and managers, and L-1B visas, which are for workers with specialized knowledge. After their intra-company transfer to the U.S., employees may obtain a green card under the doctrine of dual intent. The doctrine of dual intent allows for foreigners with non-immigrant visas to remain in the U.S. legally while they seek to gain their lawful permanent resident status. Other visas, such as O visas or E visas, also allow the dual intent doctrine.

O visas are for people with “extraordinary” abilities in science, art, education, business, media, or sports. One of the requirements is that the person seeking an O visa must have been recognized nationally for internationally for those achievements. There are four types of O visas. O-1A, O-1B, O-2, and O-3’s. Each category is set for a specific “extraordinary” ability or for the applicant’s immediate family members. E-1 and E-2 visas are for treaty traders and investors. E-1 visas specifically are for individuals seeking to carry out international trade in the United States. The dual intent doctrine does not apply to this type of visa, but applicants may bring their immediate family members to the U.S. under the same visa. E-2 visas are for individuals with substantial investments and are only available for citizens of certain countries. The investment must be substantial enough to operate a business. This visa may also be used by a non-investor employee who plays a special role in the business. The dual intent doctrine does not apply to this type of visa. EB-5 visas allow for foreign investors to come into the U.S. legally if they invest to finance a business in the U.S. that will employ American workers. As stated above, this visa may allow a foreigner to acquire their lawful permanent resident status while in the U.S.

Limited edition Roadster version of visionary V12 super sports car, combining groundbreaking hybrid technologies and design. Roadster features Lamborghini Sián’s world-first use of super capacitor in hybrid solution and unique materials-science application. Producing combined thermal and electric power of 819 hp (602 kW): roofless version of the most powerful Lamborghini ever produced. Low weight-to-power ratio of 2.0 kg/hp, acceleration 0-100 km/h in under 2.9 seconds and a top speed of over 350 km/h. Produced in a limited series of 19 units: all already sold. Automobili Lamborghini presented the Lamborghini Sián Roadster: a limited edition, open-top hybrid super sports car engineered around Lamborghini’s iconic V12 engine, with unique hybrid technologies and delivering unsurpassed Lamborghini and hybrid performance. The roofless design of the Sián Roadster puts an exclusive group of drivers in one of the most spectacular cockpits ever: always open to the sky; resonating with the inimitable V12 sound from the most powerful Lamborghini engine to date; and experiencing extraordinary performance while reveling in the Sián Roadster’s role in Lamborghini’s route to future hybridization. The Sián Roadster makes its debut in Blu Uranus, especially selected by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, which together with the Ad Personam department works with every Sián client to entirely personalize the color and finish of their Roadster. Encapsulating the blue of the sky and the green of the fields, evoking the freedom and driving elation delivered by the open top Sián Roadster’s performance, the car is finished with Oro Electrum wheels: the color chosen by Lamborghini to signify electrification. The complementary interior

96

is an elegant combination of white with Blu Glauco detailing and aluminum elements in Oro Electrum: new-design air vents produced via 3D printing allows customization with a client’s initials.

Design for the future The Lamborghini Sián Roadster asserts the futuristic design of the coupé, but as a true roadster adds a new purity with the open-air cabin. The aerial view of the Sián Roadster is evocative of the iconic periscopio line inspired by the first Countach, running diagonally from the cockpit to the rear and culminating in the aerodynamic airstreamers behind driver and passenger. The Sián’s long sculptured contours and characteristic aero wings give the Sián Roadster an unmistakably powerful profile. The car’s very low front, with integrated carbon fiber splitter, houses the iconic Lamborghini Y-shape headlights. The pure and uncluttered Sián design is a clear statement of the car’s optimized aerodynamic efficiency and technological prowess: airflow is directed through the front splitters and through the front bonnet, through the side air intakes and outlets and over the rear spoiler, with no loss of aerodynamic efficiency from the roadster’s roofless design. Active cooling vanes on the rear use unique materials-science technology patented by Lamborghini: operation of the vanes is triggered by the reaction of smart-material elements to the temperature generated by the exhaust system, causing them to rotate and providing an elegant and lightweight cooling solution. The extreme and strong rear of the car incorporates Lamborghini’s evocative hexagon design, including six hexagonal taillights inspired by the Countach. The rear wing is integrated within the profile and extends out only during the driving to enhance the performance.

Electrification and hybrid technologies for a new tomorrow

Combined with the additional 34 hp from the hybrid system, the Sián Roadster delivers a total of 819 hp (602 kW) and reaches a top speed of over 350 km/h.

The low, powerful chassis houses a next-generation V12 powerplant: ‘Sián’ in local Bolognese dialect, meaning ‘flash’ or ‘lightening’, denotes the Sián Roadster’s electrification as part of the future hybrid strategy, while maintaining the extraordinary emotion and dynamic performance inherent in naturally aspirated Lamborghini super sports cars.

The Lamborghini Sián Roadster incorporates a highly sophisticated regenerative braking system, especially developed by Lamborghini. The symmetric behavior of the supercapacitor, which contrary to normal Li-Ion batteries can be charged and discharged with the same power, fully charges the Sián’s energy storage system every time the vehicle brakes. The energy stored is an instantly-available power boost, allowing the driver to draw immediately on increased torque when accelerating away, up to 130 km/h when the e-motor automatically disconnects, improving the elasticity maneuvers and making it more than 10% faster than a car without this system.

The Sián Roadster’s hybrid system provides the highest power possible via the lightest solution, combining the V12 engine with a new powertrain. A 48-volt e-motor, delivering 34 hp, is incorporated into the gearbox to provide immediate response and improved performance. The e-motor also supports low-speed maneuvers such as reversing and parking with electric power. The Sián Roadster sports Lamborghini’s innovative supercapacitor application: a world-first technology storing ten times the power of a lithium-ion battery. Located in the bulkhead between cockpit and engine it ensures perfect weight distribution. Three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power, the electric system with the supercapacitor and e-motor weighs only 34 kg, thus it delivers a remarkable weight-to-power ratio of 1.0 kg/hp. Symmetric power flow ensures the same efficiency in both charging and discharging cycles: the most lightweight and efficient hybrid solution. This advanced technology combines with the V12 engine, which incorporates titanium intake valves and is uprated to 785 hp (577 kW) at 8,500 rpm.

The innovative system also delivers instant acceleration in low gears, with improved traction force provided by the combination of V12 engine and hybrid system. The Sián Roadster accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.9 seconds. The improvement in elasticity maneuvers is even more evident, for example traction force is improved by up to 10% in third gear. The Lamborghini Sián Roadster benefits from a heightened level of driving comfort facilitated by the hybrid system alongside dynamic handling and performance. The moment when deceleration and missing torque is felt during gear changes powered by a traditional combustion engine, is eliminated by the torque upshift fill provided by the hybrid’s e-motor: the pilot will feel only the pull backward of acceleration, eliminating uncomfortable jerking movements. Diversity comes in different forms, and the Hispanic market is no different, especially when the desired outcome is to cause an effect on their actions, on their choices, and more explicitly on their purchase behavior. Marketing a brand, a good, or a service to Hispanics is not just about translating the message, it’s about understanding their culture; it’s about stepping into their shoes and not only speak their language but feel what they are feeling, take in what they like, what they prefer, and in terms of brand loyalty, what is the best way to have such a diverse market niche fall in love with a brand?

The complexity of Marketing in Houston Houston has an extraordinary assortment of cultures; overall, you have 10-large Hispanic origin groups. On one side, you have the Mexican culture, a folkloric, rich, colorful, and vibrant group influenced heavily by its ancient Mayan and Aztec civilization and European colonization; it also happens to be the largest origin group. In the United States alone it makes up for more than 60% of the Latinos and in Houston, it is not any different since Mexicans represent 70% of the Latino population. On the other side, you have the Puerto Ricans who are heavily influenced by its incredible history between a blend of the Indian, Spanish, and African cultures. Then you have the Cubans, the Salvadorans, Guatemalans, Colombians, Hondurans, Venezuelans, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, and frankly, the list goes on. These ten amazingly rich and influential origin groups make up over 90% of the U.S. Hispanic population. These numbers are a small fragment of what the Hispanic market is all about. This data breaks into smaller and smaller groups as you dig into the diverse Latino group. So, what makes Houston such a complex market? In simple words: the mix of generations. While targeting the Hispanic segment is not only about culture, but also about understanding each segment, from millennials to baby boomers and from Spanish speaking dominants to bilingual consumers. The way you present your brand to every cultural segment is different, marketers must reach bilingual tech-oriented millennials to traditional old school baby boomers from different cultures. Ahava Marketing is a full-stack marketing agency comprised of innovators, creators, cross-cultural problem solvers, creative warriors, strategy guides, and not to mention tech junkies looking to build a true blueprint to craft human connection through digital experiences in the growing and diverse influential Hispanic market. Talent, expersite and state-of-the-art technology meet in The Woodlands to make you young, beautiful, and happy! By Linda Strickland

e all reach a birthday in life when we start reversing our age count. In my case, this year I'll be a year younger than last, and last year I grew a year younger than the one before. This fabulous process started about 6 years ago. It feels great, for a moment, but who am I fooling? The mirror reminds me daily that aging is the one thing I cannot stop. Well, not necessarily. Maybe I can continue my "age-reverse" game, and go back not just one year in my imagination every year. But how about reversing 10, 15, or 20+ years in a matter of weeks, and in front of my mirror and everyone as my witnesses? ACPS Plastic Surgery shaped me back to my 20's, Dr. Guy Lewis did it for my smile with 25 years younger in under a month, Vander Dys Jewelers dressed me up like a queen overnight; and now, Progressive Rejuvenation, The Woodlands' premier medspa, with their newest extraordinary addition, Cara Skero, is now taking care of the rest: my body and facial skin rejuvenation.

104

With a 14-year cosmetology background, Cara is also an expert, non-typical medical aesthetic skin therapist. Her approach is to create an รก la carte procedure to each patient's very specific needs and goals, and for which she has at her disposal the most advanced technologies and products available as we enter into a new decade of scientific discoveries. Her ultimate goal: face and body skin rejuvenation and contouring, taking her patients back to where they were 20 years ago. Although typical clients may initially come to her for facial treatments, once they learn about all the remarkable possibilities for their body, they end up going through the rewards of a complete makeover. In addition, Cara has a background in nutrition and weight loss, which allows her to offer a highly effective package of benefits and direction that patients can take home to maintain optimal results. Derma Cleaning, Collagen Boosting, Microneedling with PRP or Exosomes, Chemical Peels, Photofacial with Lumecca, Dermaplanning Facial, High-Frequency Facial, Resilience Caviar Hydrojelly Facial, Illuminating Vitamin C

Hydrojelly Facial, Purifying Active Charcoal Hydrojelly Facial, Vampire Pilla Infusion Hydrojelly Facial and 24K Gold Placenta Hydrojelly Facial are some of the procedures Cara brings to her patients for skincare. Non-invasive Face Lift with Exilis, Skin Tightening Body Procedures with Exilis, Diolaze xl Laer Hair Removal, Leg & Face Vascular Blemish Solutions with Vasculaze, Muscle Building & Body Sculpting with Emsculpt, Fat Cell Disruption Procedure with Vanquish Me and Cellulite and Skin Texture Procedure with Cellutone are some of the fabulous aesthetics opportunities to turn into the best you for 2021. Today I'd like to highlight a procedure created by Cara and inspired by Vander Dys Fine Jewelers: 24K Gold Placenta Hydrojelly Facial. Gold is a powerful (and luxurious) antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. The metal can calm acne inflammation, reduce skin redness, and protect against free radicals that lead to wrinkles and sun damage. This treatment places tiny little pieces of the finest 24K Gold with a solution that will change your skin into that of a goddess. After all that we have gone through in 2020, we deserve a little pampering, so this new year I plan to look the best I can look and spoil myself like there is no tomorrow. I look forward to seeing you at Progressive Rejuvenation. NAC

By Linda Strickland

The Key to a stronger Immune System Learn why NAC continues to amaze scientists and what it can do for your immune system and lung health particularly in our daily battle against coronavirus.

Doctors have been using N-acetylcysteine, or NAC, for years to treat issues ranging from heart and lung to mental health. More recently, however, experts have lasered in on NAC's amazing immune-boosting capabilities. Today, NAC is more popular than ever among people seeking a natural approach to immune health. Unfortunately, not all NAC products are created equally, and finding the right one can be tricky and time-consuming. At LUXCIOR we are committed to help cut through the noise and confusion. We've created a quick guide to help you better understand this amazing supplement that can completely change your resistance to disease, including coronavirus. What Is NAC And How Does It Work? NAC is the supplemental form L-cysteine, a semi-essential amino acid present in our bodies. Over the decades it's been used to treat a host of medical issues, from chronic lung disease to addictive behavior.1,2

However, your ability to produce GHS diminishes as you age. Poor nutrition, stress, and other underlying health conditions can also cause your GHS levels to dip further. Fortunately, NAC can help replenish GHS and even has antioxidant properties of its own, like its ability to scavenge free radicals and repair damaged tissue.

THE RESPIRATORY-IMMUNE CONNECTION Respiratory and immune health go hand in hand. Overexposure to airborne pollutants like allergens, smog, and auto emissions can damage your lung health and make it harder to filter the air you breathe. The more pollutants that make it into your lungs, the harder your immune system has to work to remove them, which can compromise your overall immune health. NAC can help provide immune relief against airborne pollutants, and can even help thin out mucus lodged in the airways.

In fact, the effectiveness of NAC is so well-documented, the World Health Organization has designated it an "essential medicine."

We suggest going the extra mile and looking for a NAC supplement with synergistic ingredients that help fortify the immune system and promote lung health.

NAC CAN EFFECTIVELY:

Now that you know which ingredients pair best with NAC, here are a few helpful tips on what you should avoid in your supplement:

Replenish natural antioxidant levels

Scavenge and eliminate free radicals

Help improve respiratory health

Repair liver damage caused by oxidative stress

Recently, experts were pleased to discover a broader application for NAC in addressing immune health. Specifically, NAC is prized for its ability to help our bodies produce a powerful antioxidant called glutathione (GHS). Often dubbed the "master detoxifier," GHS helps eliminate free radicals and heavy metals from the body. It also combats the harmful effects of oxidative stress and helps keep your immune system in good form.

108

BEWARE: HARMFUL FILLERS Magnesium Stearate This cheap filler is used to help bind ingredients together and lubricate the supplement so it doesn’t gum up when it is run through the manufacturing machines. Magnesium stearate adds no nutritional value and can become toxic to your system. Titanium Dioxide Widely relied upon in supplement manufacturing as a coloring agent and binding mineral, titanium dioxide can compromise the health of your immune system. Low-quality health supplements typically include this filler.

TRAVEL & ADVENTURE

MALDIVES

By Carolina Estrada

A

fter a year without much of a chance of going anywhere, LUXCIOR picked a fabulous destination to release all the stress accumulated during 2020. The Republic of Maldives, also known as Maldive Islands, is a small archipelagic island-country in South Asia, situated in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India, about 430 miles from the Asian continent's mainland. The chain of 26 atolls stretches from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the north to Addu Atoll in the south to the Equator. Comprising a territory spanning roughly 115 square miles, the Maldives is one of the world's most geographically dispersed sovereign states as well as the smallest Asian country by land area and population, with around 515,696 inhabitants.

TRAVEL & ADVENTURE Malé is the capital and the most populated city, traditionally called the "King's Island" where the ancient royal dynasties ruled for its central location. A chain of 1,200 islands in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives is one of the most serene, romantic, and wildly scenic destinations in the world. The islands are clustered into atolls, based on their proximity to various coral reefs, and are surrounded by calm, azure-colored lagoons. These still waters lend themselves to those dreamy overwater bungalows that have become synonymous with the archipelago, while the coral reefs make it a sought-after snorkeling destination. The final piece of this idyllic vacation spot is, of course, the Maldives beaches, many of which are pristine, whitesand stretches that travelers spend long days luxuriating on. The pint-sized Maldivian capital is the throbbing, mercantile heart of the nation, a densely crowded and fascinating place, notable mainly for its stark contrast to the laid-back pace of island life elsewhere in the country. Male (mar-lay) offers the best chance to see the ‘real’ Maldives away from the resort buffet and infinity pool. Overlooked by tall, brightly colored buildings and surrounded by incongruously turquoise water, Male is a hive of activity, the engine driving Maldives’ economy and the forum for the country’s saga-worthy political struggles. Male is also pleasingly quirky – alcohol-free cafes and restaurants jostle with shops and lively markets and the general capital-city hubbub is very much present. This island city may not have a huge number of sights, but it offers a very real chance to get a feel for Maldives and to meet Maldivians on an equal footing. The best time to visit the Maldives is between January and April, during the dry season. There's little rain and low humidity, while the climate is warm and tropical. Average highs are a consistent 84°F to 88°F year-round.

We’ve reinvented the way people think about supercar ownership and replaced it with a whole new concept. You’re no longer shackled with single-car ownership because now you can have them all for less than the cost of owning a single car. Choose a Lamborghini for a cruise through Uptown A Ferrari for a trip to the beach, or a McLaren for a quick blast through the skyscrapers. The choice is yours! _________________________________________ 822 Town and Country Blvd. Houston, TX 77024 832.726.1940 | freedomsupercars.com
