UNPRECEDENTED YEARS OF FABULOUS HOUSTON
HHow exciting being in Houston and The Woodlands, at their best time ever! During these last 10 years, we have seen this city experience unprecedented growth in literally all areas, redefining and elevating the standard of living for its residents.
The Greater Houston metropolitan area -which includes The Woodlands up to Conroe- embodies luxury and prosperity. Known for its thriving economy and diverse industries, Houston is the perfect place for those who are looking to live in a world-class city with endless opportunities for wealth creation.
A major sign of Houston’s success is the fact that it ranks as the fifth city in the United States with the largest number of millionaires -estimated at over 130,000-, according to data from the Spectrem Group and other sources. And it all has happened over the last few years!
According to Forbes, 11 Houstonians made it into the list of the top 400 wealthiest in the US as of 2022. Jeffery Hildebrand, co-founder of private oil and gas company Hilcorp saw his net worth double to $11 billion this past year, according to Forbes. Other famous Houstonians on the Forbes list are Tilman Fertitta, Rich Kinder, John Arnold, and Janice McNair.
Houston’s strong economy and thriving real estate market have created many opportunities for luxury and wealth creation. Its status as one of the top regions in the United States with the largest number of millionaires is a testament to the luxury lifestyle that is available in the region. Whether you are interested in energy, healthcare, aerospace, real estate, retail, entertainment, or tech, Houston has a lot to offer.
Energy
One of the primary drivers of Houston’s luxury economy is the energy sector. The city is home to many major energy companies, including ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP, which have their headquarters in our city. The oil and gas industry has been a major driver of Houston’s growth for decades, and the recent surge in shale gas production has helped to create even more opportunities for energy-related businesses. This has led to an influx of high-paying jobs in the energy sector, which has contributed to the growth of Houston’s millionaire population.
Healthcare
Another key industry in Houston is healthcare. The city is home to the Texas Medical Center, the largest medical complex in the world. The center employs over 106,000 people and sees more than 10 million patient visits each year. The healthcare industry is a major driver of the local economy and has helped to create many high-paying jobs in fields such as medicine, research, and administration. This has attracted many wealthy individuals to the area, contributing to Houston’s status as a luxury hotspot.
Real Estate
Houston’s real estate market is also a significant factor impacting its economy. The city has a diverse range of neighborhoods, from high-end suburbs to downtown condominiums, which cater to a wide range of tastes and budgets. The city’s low cost of living compared to other major cities, coupled with its strong economy, has made it an attractive location for those looking to invest in luxury properties. As property values continue to rise, those who own real estate in the region are likely to see their wealth increase as well.
Tech
Houston’s tech industry is rapidly growing, driven by top-tier universities and research institutions, a supportive business environment, and a diverse population. High-profile startups and established companies, such as Microsoft and Amazon Web Services, have already set up shop in the city. As the industry continues to flourish, Houston is set to become a world-class destination.
REMARKABLE INFLUX OF PEOPLE FROM OUT-OF-STATE AND ABROAD
A Thriving City Attracting Talent and Diversity
Houston’s population growth is not only driven by its booming luxury developments but also by an influx of people from other states, and abroad. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, from 2010 to 2019, Houston had a net gain of over 600,000 people from out of state. And this number grew substantially during the pandemic, with thousands of families moving especially from California, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, not to mention the huge numbers of immigrants from all around the world. This migration has brought new ideas and cultures to the city, making it even more vibrant and energized.
In 2013, exactly ten years ago, it became national news that New York was taken down from its centuries-old reign as the most diverse city in the nation to #2 after Houston. And we hold that coveted #1 position strong to this day.
Many people are drawn to Houston for its job opportunities, particularly in the energy and healthcare industries. Houston is home to the largest medical center in the world, the Texas Medical Center, which employs over 100,000 people. Additionally, Houston is the headquarters for 24 Fortune 500 companies, including ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, Sysco, and Hewlett Packard, to name a few.
As a result of this influx of people, Houston’s arts and culture scene has become even more vibrant and diverse. With new residents come new ideas and perspectives, leading to the growth of new art forms, music scenes, and cultural institutions. Houston’s arts and culture scene has become a reflection of its diverse population, with offerings ranging from traditional ballet and theater to experimental music and street art.
The Houston Museum District, located in the heart of the city, is home to 19 museums, galleries, and cultural institutions, each with its own unique offerings and exhibitions. The district features world-renowned institutions. Here are some of them:
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) is the oldest art museum in Texas. The museum’s original building was designed in 1924 by William Ward Watkin in the Neoclassical style. The South facade features tall Greek columns. In contrast, Van der Rohe’s addition on the North side of the museum stands as a renowned example of International style. Along with the National Gallery in Berlin, the additions to MFAH is Mies van der Rohe’s only museum work.
The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. As a non-collecting museum, it strives to provide a forum for visual arts of the present and recent past and document new directions in art, while engaging the public and encouraging a greater understanding of contemporary art through education programs.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science ( HMNS) The acclaimed traveling exhibition Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs features more than 100 works of art, most of which had never been shown in the United States prior to this tour. Half of these spectacular treasures come from the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
Houston also boasts a vibrant music scene, with a range of venues and genres to suit every taste. From the world-renowned Houston Symphony Orchestra to local jazz clubs and indie rock venues, Houston’s music scene is a reflection of its diverse population and influences.
All of these cultural offerings contribute to Houston’s overall growth and appeal, particularly in terms of attracting new residents and businesses to the city. The presence of world-class cultural institutions and arts scenes are often seen as indicators of a city’s livability and quality of life, making Houston an attractive destination for young professionals and families.
