Abstract

To anticipate the Legacy exhibition, reveal something of the magic and beauty of Schloss Hollenegg, Sara Ricciardi brought elements of the castle to Milan, creating an immersive installation in via Cesare Correnti 14. Arcadia represents a mythical land, where man finds tranquillity and peace the soul, outside the realm of civilisation. For Sara Ricciardi visiting the castle of Hollenegg was like finding herself in Arcadia. Over the centuries, the owners of Hollenegg, have created a place of great beauty and serenity, while building a legacy.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

Sara Ricciardi has captured details and peculiarities of the castle and re-interpreted them to create a playful and immersive installation where velvety textures, tapestries, layers of silk, embroidery and crystals create a space in which visitors will be able to interact with a large sphere, symbolic of a compelling legacy. “Does not the pleasantness of this place carry in itself sufficient reward for any time lost in it, or for any such danger that might ensue? Do you not see how everything conspires together to make this place a heavenly dwelling? [ Lope de Vega, Arcadia: Prose and Verse ]

LEGACY a design exhibition exploring cultural heritage About

For the third consecutive year, Schloss Hollenegg opened its doors to host a design exhibition, under the title Legacy. From Friday 4th to Monday 7th of May 2017, visitors were able to walk in many of the rooms of the castle, normally closed to the public, and see objects of contemporary design next to antiques of the Liechtenstein collection. Through the design objects, the exhibition, curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein, has developed on the previous years themes (Slow and Morphosis) and has explored the concept of LEGACY.

Location

Schloss Hollenegg for Design Schwanberg 8530, Hollenegg 1

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

It has explored the importance of heritage, in personal and collective terms, looking both at the past and at the future. As individuals, the intangible inheritance we have received from our parents and upbringing shapes us profoundly. At the same time, there comes a moment in life when we inevitably must ask ourselves what meaning our life and work has for the future; we have to question what is it that we are building in our lives and if what we are leaving behind is a valuable and positive legacy for the generations to come.

Abstract

Bloc Studios presented three new series of objects created in collaboration with designers Valentina Cameranesi and Nick Ross, and design studio Objects of Common Interest. For the first time, these objects combine marble with new hues, which range from the Portugal pink and jade green of the accessories by Nick Ross, to the pietra serena, white arabesque, and noir antique of the vases by Valentina Cameranesi, with which marble takes on a more organic, anthropomorphic shape. In addition to all this, thanks to the collaboration with Objects of Common Interest, research and experimentation give life to a series of colourful sculptural totems.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

The Avalon series by Valentina Cameranesi consists of three sculptural vases made of white arabesque marble and various versions of coloured marble. Nick Ross is the designer of the Inlay series collection, that includes a chair, a coffee table and two side tables in a stripped down minimal style. The Totem series is composed of stackable, vertically interchangeable marble elements that create different variations for a centerpiece tray element in the form of a sculptural totem designed by Objects of Common Interest.

Abstract

The former Chiesa San Carpoforo in Brera was once again the location for the grand entrance by bulthaup. The focus was on the bulthaup b3 evolution and b.architecture, a comprehensive room concept that adapts the individuality and creativity in interior design to people’s needs – to the people of today and tomorrow. Human individuality was the inspiration for the development of b.architecture. Thanks to the many planning options, there is freedom of design.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

The interplay of empty space, water and functionalities create the basis for fulfilling the demands of living together from day to day. The time of day and lifestyles are also important in this context. Likewise the kitchen becomes the communicative centerpoint – the place to appreciate food. The philosophy of bulthaup is to focus on the people living in a given room and not on the room itself. This approach generates a unique balance between space, people and moments: b.architecture is the realization of this vision by bulthaup.

Abstract

A new collection of high impact interior design coverings that overturns the traditional rules of ceramic tile creation: CEDIT presented Rilievi by Zaven (Enrica Cavarzan and Marco Zavagno). Three dimensional elements with different geometric forms and colours decorate the large slabs by CEDIT, transforming walls and spaces into imaginative scenarios that constitute real works of art. Rilievi is a sculptural project and outcome of lengthy development work by Zaven: an in-depth investigation of the transformation of the two dimensional sign into volume, where modular repetition of a 3D element - in ever changing configurations - becomes an innovation of inestimable worth.

Abstract

Cristina Celestino chose to reinterpret the historic streetcars of the city, imagining an ideal “Cinema Corallo circulating in the Brera district. Corallo brought on stage a suggestive screening room on rails, an unexpected and evocative place, an authentic travelling salon inside a historic tram from 1928, reinvented in a contemporary way. Milan and its urban landscapes are the main subject of the surreal footage that enters through the ribbon windows at the back of the tram, in a dimension that seems to travel in space and time.

Abstract

A fresh, bright and expressively pure environment interprets visually and emotionally the close relationship with water: a primary element that we use each day. CRISTINA Brera presented a new exhibition concept conceived and designed by Naomi Hasuike - Makio Hasuike & Co, that is not a simple temporary installation but a new look for the showroom. Volumes of transparent blue glass stand out in the windows and inside the space, simple shapes, apparently solid liquids and graphic surfaces, superimposed on colored transparencies, relate with the products on display, leaving room for imagination.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

Thus, water becomes a furnishing, a dynamic and luminous surface that interacts with the visitors. The protagonist of Rhythm in blue is the new SX series: a proposal that perfectly interprets the concept of wellness. The project has been set up at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Rho Fairground, too where CRISTINA rubinetterie exhibited.

Abstract

During the design week, Milan becomes a chaotic city where hundreds of events take place at the same time; will you be able to visit them all? Choose the best daily route and collect design objects before anyone else, but remember you just have six days for that! The winner is the player who best moves around the city finding the most important places and events according to the time of the day, just like it happens in real life. Fuorisalone.it decided to celebrate its 15th anniversary creating the Fuorisalone board game, a project originating from the desire to turn the amazing and unique experience of the Milan Design Week into a game, allowing people to live the most important design week everywhere in the world.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

“Our objective was to create a truly original game, not just a gadget for the event, something that could evoke the atmosphere of Fuorisalone, simple and easy to play with by anyone and at anytime, also those who don’t know anything about Fuorisalone”. Abstract

Garance VallĂŠe made her Fuorisalone debut with “Terraâ€?, an interior design project conceived for a new meeting room perceived as a symbolic space capable of representing man and his experience of matter. Concrete, plaster and mineral pigments suggest the various layers of Mother Earth, expressed in the design of the Strata and Earthy stools, which also symbolise the ethnic differences that have always been part of the character of humankind. The primordial nature of man is an important focus for the installation, embodied in the raw natural clay that forms the amphora, a clear reference to the cradle of humanity, the Mediterranean and its Greek-Roman era in which amphorae were used in great quantities for the transport of goods.

The Italian-British design duo operating in the lighting sector, presented a special project based on experimentation on the theme of light and the emotions it generates. The investigation that ranges through precious materials and high technology, nature and magic, has led to the creation of a series of installations, one-of-a-kind pieces that represent unexpected mutations that emerged during the development and reinterpretation of the catalogue collections. Four sculptural chandeliers that seem to be suspended in an enigmatic and abstract reality, on which inflorescences, branches and “supernatural elements grow, crystallised in brass, as in a process of pollination.

Abstract

A total tribute, articulated across the exhibition design inspired by the Church of Espirito Santo do Cerrado, Nilufar Depot gathered the highest number of pieces in the world designed by Lina Bo Bardi ever exhibited together in one place. A long work of cultural collectionism, conducted in first person by Nina Yashar, which culminates with an exhibition that focuses on one of the most powerful figures of the architecture of the XX Century, recognized with the patronage and scientific collaboration of the Instituto Bardi / Casa de Vidro.

Lina Bo Bardi produced very little yet she is very much sought after. Her trait embodies a choice of antithesis, for pure collectors. A design in which the balance between past and present, rules and freedom, has touched the magic point of an eternal modernism, who does not feel the passaging of time.

Abstract

Pretziada is an interdisciplinary project that combines journalism, design, crafts and tourism, with the aim of creating bridges between the island and the rest of the world, bringing a touch of change and modernity starting with the true authenticity of Sardinia. “A Familiar Place” created a temporary place set up on the rooftop of the agency in which, first of all, the simple act of offering bread to visitors belongs to the concept of humanity based on the interaction and mutual respect of different worlds. The installation had two sections: the “World Above”, that of the living, of the security in which we seek refuge, and the “World Below”, the darker world, that of misfortune.

Life on Earth

About

The new collection, “Life on Earth”, is the result of the designers’ intricate observation of things, that are usually taken for granted. By merging geometric and organic forms, the collection is an expression of their state of mind. It comes from the willingness to be more aware of what lies beneath the objects created centuries ago, and how they endured time. The idea was to reiterate the fact that nothing really changes. Permanence is a leitmotif that runs through the whole collection. “By always seeking for something new and unfamiliar, we are rarely fully aware of what is around us at any given moment. That’s why we decided to capture the simple forms of our daily life and freeze them in time - to “monumentalize” them. This collection is all about celebrating the Life on Earth.” Rooms

Tonelli Design celebrated its 30th anniversary, still driven by the same passion that has made it not only an outstanding exponent of Made in Italy that produces design, but also an industrial reality for the international spread of the culture of glass, through constant research, stylistic and technological innovation, and exceptional quality.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

For this important milestone, Tonelli Design presented an extraordinary new development that will revolutionise the traditional concept of glass in this sector: Krystal Fusion is an innovative production technique that calls for the mixing of the noble material with other elements such as resin, generating a very strong, transparent new material that offers a high level of creative freedom. Its versatile nature allows it to lend itself to many interpretations of sophisticated modern taste, also through the use of colour. Krystal Fusion can be given different hues thanks to its vitreous base that provides a molecular structure similar to that of liquids.

Abstract

The xyz project was the result of years of research by AR.CH.IT Luca Cipelletti as part of an architectural and exhibition design approach that considers the design of details as the foundations of the architect's work. Here the scale is changing, but the products are generated by the same principles as a specific approach to architecture. In this sense, they are the result of a design that is architectonic, even structural: a composition of forms that tends towards synthesis and lasting over time. xyz is a piece of furniture. Conceived as a table, it is also a console, a bench and a nightstand: a family of objects with a common design principle.

Design Report / Milan Design Week 2018

xyz is a tailor made service: customers can choose from a wide range of materials and sizes (xyz: length, width, height) according to their needs and wishes. xyz is a design project that summarizes the work on space, on the deduction of the material, on the point of view, on the perspectives and on the various plans of the object, recurrent themes in the work of Luca Cipelletti.
