In 2013, Baden Pailthorpe was the inaugural artist in residence at the Australian War Memorial. Instead of being sent to interpret a war zone, Pailthorpe was embedded within the institution itself, turning his attention to the artifacts and practices that make up its collection. Made from 210 individual paper sculptures, Spatial Operations addresses the power of artifacts, mythology and the commemorative operations of official narratives.
