Goal of the course Scientific lectures will provide you with contemporary knowledge on trauma of the orbit and the skull base and also with treatment of tumors in this region. The fo- cus will be on the interdisciplinary management in this region. Hands-on-cadaver laboratory training will ad- ditionally provide a unique opportunity to perform the different approaches to the orbit and skull base region.
Target participants Ophthalmology, ENT surgery, Neurosurgery, Oral and maxil- lofacial surgery.
Course description Topics of the course will be taught in three main ways. Comprehensive lectures will concentrate on the understanding of the orbit and skull base region. Practical sessions with Hands-on cadaver will teach a step by step introduction of the different approaches to the orbit and anterior skull base region followed by an on-site demonstration. Participants will exercise the dissection under the coverage of the faculty. Discussions will be held throughout the course to link the lecture material and prac- tical skills taught with the problems encountered by the course participants in their individual practice.
Course objectives After the course, participants should have: • An improved understanding of the complex anatomi- cal structures of the orbit and the skull base. • Knowledge on current concepts in management of orbit and skull base lesions. • Understanding of the importance of the interdisci- plinary management in this region. • Enhanced their surgical skills in a variety of orbit and skull base approaches. • Discuss the problems, complications and intraopera- tive difficulties that can result when operating in this region.
