- Course: Spatial Planning for Sustainable Development
This report sought to devise strategies that constitutes a step towards a more sustainable development in Karlstad, with the starting point in the three pillars that form part of the Brundtland Report of 1987: sustainable development in social, economic and ecological dimensions. Through maps some aspects were observed and questioned whether they are sustainable in the longer term. The sustainability assessment for Karlstad focused on the site-specific conditions that exist, together with the consequences of how the content and the physical form of the city today affect the ongoing processes in the city. The focus laid on the physical conditions - the structure - which may facilitate certain processes while they hamper others.
Map over Karlstad today
The assessments and research led to a number of concrete proposals that are based on selected strategies designed to reach a sustainable development. With the vision to change unsustainable processes in ecology, traffic, urban structure and citizen participation to a more sustainable direction.

The future is unpredictable and therefore the suggestions that can be started in the short term where more detailed in their execution. All proposals are open to different scenarios in the future and none of them makes sure that Karlstad does not locks itself in a specific scenario, with no more doors left open. The future city must be flexible in order to be considered sustainable.

The exercise was intended to create an understanding of how a business- & industrial area is structured and what claims can be made on the disposition of land for different types of businesses. In this case the industrial area on Verkö was examined. This is dominated by two major companies, ABB and Stena Line with it’s connection to Gdynia, Poland. The planning of the area included two scales, a general thematic dimension of the area and a more detailed, shown in the slicer. By analyzing trends and future land use of Verkö with emphasis on the industrial areas ABB and the harborbusiness create alternative solutions to municipal plans. - Course: Planning, trade and Industry and Place of Work

Perspective from west
In this project, the task was to design a cultural center at a selected site in Karlskrona, located in one corner of Stortorget. The building’s architectural design should relate to the surroundings. The buildings design is the product of the properties limitations and an attempt to amplify the citys Baroque city plan. By combining materials found in the surrounding buildings’ facades with an eyecatching design of the building meets modern image the historic city plan.
