SECTION
The concept behind this proposal seeks to unify a divided downtown area in order to create a consolidated urban node that would facilitate a junction between East and West Los Angeles. By properly defining and organizing urban “layers,” connections can be achieved. These layers include high-speed vehicular circulation pathways, pedestrian circulation patterns, and recreational spaces. The iconic status of the new station will increase the cultural and residential value of the land, inviting for new development to occur around the station. The elongated form of the station provides a connection between the northern and southern areas of downtown. This is facilitated by adapting a pedestrian decking on top of Highway 101, which currently bifurcates this area of the city.

CASE STUDY
KLYDE WARREN PARK
This case study, located in Dallas, Texas, demonstrates how an elevated decking is constructed on top of a major highway. The Klyde Warren Park incorporates a variety of spaces capable of adapting different uses available for the community. The same concept is applied to this proposal. The scale of both projects are relatively the same, providing the oppurtunity to be adapated to Highway 101.
SECONDARY STREET PERSPECTIVE
The construction of the decking integrates trees, green areas, water features, and small canopies. It incorporates lanes for public transportation and vehicular traffic as well.
