Coming Out Of The Closet When Ian Thorpe proudly announced, not only to his friends and family, but also to the nation as a whole, that he was out and proud, it was one very brazen move indeed. To most of us, this wasn’t a revelation at all because we claimed that we already knew ‘Thorpedo’ was gay. To others, this mere fact didn’t alter our lives, change our views or disrupt our way of thinking in the slightest and to some, the news was so shocking that it was the main talking point in the Office Tea Room for days. But what about us mere mortals that are not in the limelight and are not subjected to the world backing us up and cheering us on when WE realised that we too, are gay? What happens when we decide that today IS the day that we want to scream those three words to the world? The three words that can be difficult to say. The words…. I AM GAY. I put the call out to those that came out of the closet and some of their stories just may surprise you….
6
Coming out was never an issue
I suddenly realised I was gay!
By around the age of 17 I was conscience of the fact I was attracted to women and at some point it was something I was going to explore. All I kept thinking was who was the last person on the planet I’d want to know, and so I decided it would be the first person I told. My Mum, and really the only opinion that mattered to me. Driving home one evening having a chatter as we did, I just popped out ‘Mum, I’m attracted to girls’ Without a stutter or hesitation, Mum casually replied ‘Are ya? That’s all right’ and said something about judging people for who they are, how they treat you and not what they have including the bits between their legs. I always remember her describing everyone as being on a line with some people at one end (very hetro) and some at the other end (very homo) but she said most sit somewhere in between. Her opinion was everyone, at least once in a lifetime, would have an attraction to someone of the same sex, whether they do something about it or not. That conversation lasted about 4 minutes and that was the extent of my coming out story. Was never an issue for us and I think maybe my siblings and family knew before I did, to some extent, so no surprises. My Dad I think was the happiest of all. No barefoot, pregnant teen on his hands and as it turns out, forever his little girl. I guess you can call me one of the lucky ones and I thank my family for that.
At the age of 23, it seemed like I suddenly realised that I was gay; like a light-bulb moment. As soon as I realised, I told all of my friends that I was knocking about with and they all accepted it in their strides. I decided to come out to my very Catholic Dad while we were at work together (we are both electricians), and he took it much better than I expected. The hard part was telling my Mum when we got home, who immediately asked what else I was going to do to her. Considering I had been the perfect daughter up until this point, I found this response rather melodramatic. She has continued to be more and more accepting of my lifestyle as the years have gone by. A few days later I came out to my extended family at our Christmas afternoon get-together. My cousins told me it was about time and that they’d known for ages (thanks for telling me guys!) and my Aunties got all confused and asked where exactly I had come out of?

I was very uncomfortable being labelled a lesbian I vividly recall where I was when I announced my gayness to the world. I was in my back shed, doing things that you normally do in a back shed when I rang my Dad and told him that I had met someone. I didn’t refer to this person as anything but ‘they’. He picked up on this unusual way
of speaking that I had suddenly developed and queried me on it. When I finally told him that ‘they’ was actually a girl, I think he took it well? I don’t really know? I had I blurted the announcement out so fast, I actually believe he had misheard what I said and I don’t even think he had the time to digest it or to react to it really. I then demanded that he tell both of my sisters as I was too chicken to do it myself and to call me back with an update and progress report and I hung up quickly. He called me back saying that both of them were ok, which was great…now it was up to me to be ok with it. I was very uncomfortable being labeled a lesbian for many years. I couldn’t even bring myself to say it. That was then, and this is now and I’m out and proud with the rest of them!
JAIME
My Dad is gay When I was 25yrs old I had my first girlfriend. I was estranged from my Dad, but I got a call from him out of the blue and I talked to him for the first time in 4 years. During that call, I told him the girl I was visiting was my girlfriend. My Dad is gay, so he just said “I thought you might have been gay when you were about 15yrs old, but you kept dating boys” lol and that was that. With my Dad being gay, he was supportive. Now my Mum was a different story. I was so nervous about telling her, I visited her every few days for weeks trying to bring it up but chickening out and not telling her. One day I decided enough was enough, and I was standing in the driveway about to leave, and as I was about to get in the car to go, and I just said, “Mum, I have something I
want to tell you. Pam is my girlfriend” And then held my breath waiting for her response. Then she said “Whatever makes you happy” and then I said “Are you sure you’re ok with it?” And then I left. It hasn’t been exactly as I’d planned since then. My Mum has never met a partner of mine, so ‘happy’ and ‘excepting’ are not really what I experience.
MELISSA
My Dad was Homophobic My Step Mum ended up telling my Dad. I was going to, and I spoke to her beforehand, but she insisted she tell him for me. My Dad was a total Homophobe and she didn’t want him to say anything in the heat of the moment that he couldn’t take back. She was right and my Dad and I are doing much better these days.
TABITHA I told them I was dating a girl Contrary to the vast majority of coming out stories, telling my parents was the easy part. Both of them were hairdressers in Brisbane during the 80’s and 90’s so the gay lifestyle was no strange concept to them. I told them that I was dating a girl one night as we sat down to dinner, and they didn’t even bat an eyelid. Easy. Coming out to myself came later and it was much harder. It really was a strange concept to me and my first lesbian relationship seemed like it had nothing to do with my sexuality. I wasn’t gay; I had just fallen in love with a girl! Did anyone buy that story? It took me another three years to let go of what I thought I should be doing and come out completely; it was just a matter of accepting myself.
CANDICE
My housemate was my girlfriend I was living with my girlfriend at the time as a “housemate”. I went to my Mum’s for dinner one night and half way through she asked me if I was my flatmates girlfriend. I waited for what felt like forever, and I said yes. She gave me a hug and said ‘You’re so gay Jackie, but I love ya’ Then we finished our dinner.
JACKIE My Mother went on a rant and blamed society I was 22 when I told my parents that I was gay. They were the last to know, after my friends, then my siblings. My mother went on a rant and blamed society as
a whole for taking away structures and deadlines in life before asking if I was ruling out getting married or having children, or the rest of the life that she had envisioned for her eldest child. My Father, the Financial Planner, calmly accepted the news, listened to my Mother’s response, and finally said that I would have a lot more disposable income if I wasn’t going to be saving for a ring for my partner, a wedding for the community or Private School Education for my kids, and that I should invest wisely in my own future. It took them a while to fully digest, or to tell any of their friends, but I luckily haven’t had a single bad reaction from anyone that I was close to. Coming out, for me, was about sharing more of myself with the world around me and proved that whilst you always prepare for the worst, sometimes life just gives you lemonade straight up.
GARETH
She left her boyfriend for me I told two girls, that were sisters who were total strangers to me, that I think I’ve realised that I like women. I made this announcement at ‘Student Night’ when they used to have $1 basics till midnight. They said their friend was bi-sexual and that I should meet her. The following weekend the bi-girl along with her boyfriend (of 4 years) and including the two sisters, picked me up to go to a concert at the University of Queensland. On the way home, the bi-girl dropped everyone home first so that she could drop me off home last. After she came in, she then broke up with her boyfriend the next

day and we ended up spending the next four and a half years together. By then, it was pretty widely spread that I was gay.
AMANDA
My Mother already knew When I was 17, I told my Sister I was gay and to my surprise she took it quite well. Then I had to find a way to tell my Mother. I got my Mother to drive us to my Sister’s place so I had some back up in case my Mother had a heart attack or something. When I told her, all she could say was... You made me drive 5 hours in the dark to tell me something I already knew?!? You’re my daughter and I love you no matter what, you bloody idiot!
who were girls; but I really didn’t understand them!! I came out to my friends when I was about 19. We had been spending a lot of time at the main gay club in Brisbane – and I just felt comfortable there. Two older lesbians came up to me one night after we had been going there for a while and asked me when I was planning on coming out – that’s when I really understood who I was meant to be. Unfortunately my parents didn’t take it anywhere near as well as my friends did, kicking me out and disowning me. That was very hard – life without family can cause a lot of problems emotionally. After a while, I decided to play their game and pretended it was all a phase – coming home, fitting in, going out with boys – going back in the closet. It was years later that I finally had the courage to be me again – so back out of the closet I came with a blaze!! Now I work hard to ensure other LGBTIQ youth don’t have to go through what I did. It’s great being me!!!

My parents kicked me out and disowned me So, way back as far as I could remember, I always felt ‘different’ – you know, like I didn’t really fit in. I played with boys, trucks and cars – had friends

and I spent more months wondering. It took an anxiety and depression attack to get me to a psychologist, who encouraged me to take the first step in coming out and I found for the first time in my life I felt that I fitted in my own skin.
TANYA I was the apple of my Grandmother’s eye I was raised as a Christian, even taught Children’s Church at the age of 12 and was the apple of my Grandmother’s eye. Every time I would try to tell her I would chicken out so I wrote it in a letter. One afternoon we had a disagreement and I stormed down to my room, grabbed the letter and stood there while she read it. When she was finished, she looked up from the letter and I stepped back (as it looked like she was going to hit me) The only thing she could say was it’s just a ‘phase’ Now she asks me about my partner when I’m with someone.
DANIELLE. At the age of 50 I made friends with a lesbian
I wasn’t attracted to his man parts
I spent most of my adult life single – knowing there was a problem and not being willing to explore what it could be. At the age of 50, I made friends with a lesbian and was instantly attracted to her. Initially I thought it was just a freak occurrence, but the longer I thought about it, the more I recognised it felt right. Unfortunately she rejected me
After having a baby, my boyfriend and I decided to get married, mostly to please our families. We had a fairly large wedding and headed off to our honeymoon. After spending almost a week on our honeymoon, when we got home I went out to The Beat Nightclub with some friends who were a part of my Bridal Party. I always knew that I was Bi-Sexual and was familiar
LEANNE My parents believed I had a disease I pretty much removed the man posters (that society made me blue tac up) from my bedroom wall when I was 17 and I replaced them with about 30 A4 size posters of women and this is how it began. My parents were Christian and believed that I had a disease and that I was going to hell…
yada yada yada. I remember them saying to me that my voice and face would change and my Mum even said “You’re not going to turn into a man are you?”

in your own skin and never to be afraid. No one is alone regardless of how it feels and sometimes acceptance comes from the most unlikely people.

I was treated like a criminal Coming out in a small country town full of Italians….and being Italian and leaving my husband for a woman, the whole town turned their backs on me. I lost most of my friends, my family and I was treated like a criminal. I am still battling with my youngest Son who hates me for being gay!!
LISA My eldest sister is a lesbian My coming out was relatively easy. My eldest sister is a lesbian, so my family were pretty in time with that already. My Mum actually asked my sister when I was about 13 if she thought I was gay and she replied with a firm, yes. So my family was pretty cool with that. I’ve been pretty guarded about my sexuality with my work colleagues in my younger years. My career choices meant that I worked in a male dominated field and it was pretty rough n’ tumble doing my apprenticeship as a diesel fitter in the Mines in Mount Isa. So I kept hush about it until I met a great bunch of supportive men and women that encouraged me not be scared, but to embrace it. Since then, I’ve pretty much thrown it out there for everyone to see. I guess the most important thing is to be comfortable
gay pride
with this nightclub. When I was out, I met a girl, and with my husbands permission, I went back to her house and I planned to go home to him in the morning (We had an agreement that I could hook up with girls) I woke up in the morning with the sense that I didn’t want to go home and it finally felt right. I started lying to my husband and seeing this girl on the side for a week, when I finally came to the realization that I was not Bi-Sexual at all, I am gay. My husband and I hadn’t had sex in about 12 months. I thought it was due to pregnancy hormones but it wasn’t that at all, it was because I wasn’t attracted to his man parts. I went to my mum for advice and she was relieved that I could be so honest and reassured me that it was OK to break up with my husband. He hated me for a while, but six years later we are finally on speaking terms and my Son considers himself lucky to have a Dad, a Mum and a Mummy. Although the girl from The Beat Nightclub and I broke up after five and a half years, I am definitely gay and it definitely wasn’t a phase. I have a new girlfriend who is amazing and loves my Son with all her might. We are planning our wedding for next year, and yes, we U-Hauled!

he Greenhouse Café is a Vegan/Vegetarian Café that opened its doors to the public in June 2014. It is owned and managed by Georgia Pearson and it is conveniently located on the Sunny Coast of Brisbane. I was fortunate enough to experience this Café first hand when I popped in for a visit and pulled Georgia aside for a quick chat.
Why did you decide that the time had come to open The Greenhouse Café?
Well since moving to the southern end of the coast I had noticed a real need for a Café that served healthy, organic and clean food. I struggled to find places to eat in the area myself so thought, hey! Why not open my own! Hence The Greenhouse Café was born!
Have you always worked in hospitality?
Yes, this has in actual fact been my main career thus far. I’ve worked all over the coast, from Noosa to Mooloolaba as a Restaurant Manager in some very successful establishments I might say, but really, it’s always been a dream and passion of mine to own my own. I’ve always wanted to have my own café, always. It was just a matter of the right time and the right place to do so and let’s not forget about the finances as well! However, for the last couple of years I’ve have been studying Naturopathy and Nutrition. I’m currently half way through and I really am loving it.
Did you do any research before opening The Greenhouse Café?
To be honest, I didn’t! I guess through 17 years experience in the industry was research enough! You soon learn to know what people want in a dining experience. Also, the health movement at the moment led me to believe there would be people who would want to dine in a healthy, organic and ethical Café. I make ethical choices from the food I serve, from the coffee I order, from cleaning products I use, even from the waste (the neighbours chickens get all waste produce) and the takeaway containers I use (all plant based biodegradable), also no bpa or microwaving etc…
13
Why Caloundra?
There is none like it in this area, and it’s just a short drive from home. The rest of the Coast has more options but I felt Caloundra was missing out!
What kind of response have you received since opening?
Overwhelming to be completely honest! We just made it through opening weekend and people flocked. We had people waiting patiently for free tables so they could dine with us and experience the Greenhouse Café personally. The feedback has been phenomenal as well; we live in a great community we really do and people love the food and the service that we provide. I’ve really tried to lift the bar and raise it to a new level. We offer table service whereas nearly all cafes and restaurants in Caloundra don’t. It’s the little things that matter and I want people to feel at home here.
What is your role within The Greenhouse Café?
I’m the Owner and Manager, I also work very closely with the Chef in designing the menu and recipes using my studies to make sure our customers are getting healthy, balanced meals. I’m also a hands on person when it comes to coffee making as well etc. I’m also in daily contact with the farmers that supply our Fruit and Vegetables (Kookaburra Organics)
Who did you open the Cafe with?
Just me! The Chef, Amy Fulton, is one of my closest friends and she helped a lot in the set up. I couldn’t of done it without her. She’s an exceptional human being that is appreciated beyond belief.
And I see you have trotted down the Vegan/Vegetarian pathway!
Yes! I did! Absolutely! Being a vegetarian myself, I would never serve animals on my menu. Animals are my friends, so it was never an option but that’s just my personal choice though. I guess as a vego you get sick of going to a café or restaurant and only ever having one small option on the menu, or none at all, to order from. I wanted to give vegetarians a choice!
And finally, what has been the most popular dish?
So far, the Sweet Corn Fritters for breakfast and the Veggie Burger for lunch. The Harissa Baked Beans and the Med Veg Turkish are also extremely popular. And for dessert? You cannot go past the raw vegan key lime pie. It’s a sell out everyday!

Pendulum swing?
Using a Pendulum – an evenly weighted crystal on a string or chain – was one of my favourite tools in my early days of awakening. I liked it because it was easy to use and gave me very clear answers in a way I could understand and trust.
Basically, the Pendulum is swung over the palm of your hand or a chart, and it responds to the subtle energy force when a question is asked. Here are some very simple ways to get started. Hold your Pendulum between your forefinger and thumb, about 10cm up the chain, so that the chain drops straight down. Hover the crystal over your other palm, or over a chart or an object in question. When the crystal is still, ask “What is yes?” and it will begin to swing. Perhaps it will swing in a circular motion clockwise. Take note of what “yes” looks like. Next, ask, “What is no?” It will swing another way – perhaps anti-clockwise. Then ask, “What is maybe?” and take note of how it swings – for me it swings in a straight line back and forth, or sometimes it goes back to centre and shivers like it’s cold! Before proceeding with your questions, get permission – “May I ask questions at this time?” If you get a Yes response, begin with a practice question that you are certain of the answer, such as, “Is my name ---?” When phrasing your questions, formulate them so that the answers can only be a yes, no or maybe. Include considerations for timing too – “at this time,” or “within three months”. If you doubt the answers being given to you by the Pendulum, this is your inner-saboteur at work. Either put the Pendulum down and come back to it later, or re-phrase your questions to bring you back into a state of trust. Alternatively, perhaps it’s a question the pendulum can’t answer! To determine if this is the case, simply ask, “Do you know the answer to this question?” The Pendulum can also be used over an object to determine whether it’s good for you or not. This is how I discovered my intolerance to cow’s milk – by using my pendulum over a jug of milk and asking, “Should I be drinking more cow’s milk?” (No.) “Should I be drinking less?” (Yes.) “Should I eliminate cow’s milk from my diet?” (Yes.) “Can I eat cheese made from cow’s milk?” (Yes.) “Can I eat yoghurt made from cow’s milk?” (Maybe.) And so on. My sinus problems improved dramatically after completing this exercise. You can also use a chart to get your answers! For a yes/no answer, write Yes in the first box in the chart below, and No in the last box. Add other answers in the other three boxes such as Maybe, Probably Not, Undecided, Likely, or whatever suits. Ask your question, and your pendulum will swing strongly towards one answer more than the others. Other options to write in the boxes include numbers (to determine time in weeks or months, quantities, age or dollars), geographical locations, state of health, and so forth. Keep The Beauty Alive Because There Is NO Excuse For Animal Abuse Of course there’s no excuse for animal abuse, so then why do so many people come up with excuse after excuse? There are so many products on the market these days, and the competition is rife. It can be a little confusing and daunting for those who DO want to do right in the world, but find it a little overwhelming and frustrating. So what really stands out? ‘The Rabbit Symbol’? The ‘Not Tested On Animals Slogan’? The ‘Vegan Stamp Of Approval’?
21
Those Three and more actually. Many consumers are grossly unaware that most of their household products that they use daily have actually been tested on animals. That washing up liquid that’s under the sink, that surface cleaner that’s in the cupboard, that deodorant and makeup that’s in the drawer have probably, if not definitely been tested on animals. The question is if consumers knew this, would it prevent them from purchasing the product in the first place?
And this is where The Choose Cruelty Free Organisation steps in. Choose Cruelty Free Ltd (CCF) is an independent, non – profit organisation that consists of one part time staff member and seven regular volunteers. CCF has been established since October 1993 and it provides an accreditation service to companies producing cosmetics, toiletries and household cleaning products that do NOT test on animals. The CCF also provides a service to consumers concerned about buying only from companies that do NOT test on animals.
Animal testing is unreliable, unnecessary and highly immoral. So why did this organisation begin? Because they want to fight for animal rights, to be a voice for the animals that are suffering and to finally see animal testing banned, for good. And not only that, they also want a ban on the manufacture, import and sale of cosmetics produced by companies that still animal test. It is not only alarming to know, but it’s also a horrendous fact, that everything has been animal tested at some stage, everything, even water! Animal testing is unreliable, unnecessary and highly immoral. It is conducted behind closed doors, and the organisations breeding and selling laboratory animals make millions of dollars from the misery, suffering and ultimate death of millions of animals worldwide each year. With valid, scientifically validated, humane alternatives available why does this cruel practice continue?
Yes why? Why DOES this cruel practice still continue? So that countries can meet their regulatory requirements, that’s why. http://www.choosecrueltyfree. org.au/china-whats-the-story/ it is to be noted that Companies also claim they conduct animal testing for human health and for safety reasons. This claim doesn’t make sense nor does it stack up because humans are physiologically different to the animals used in laboratory testing of cosmetics (rabbits, mice, guinea pigs, rats). The companies animal-test because they don’t want to be sued by someone if they happen to have an adverse reaction to their product. It is interesting to know that there is no standard as to what “cruelty-free” means and there is virtually nothing to stop companies telling consumers that they don’t animal test and they are a cruelty-free company. Companies like to confuse the buyers, even tricking them to a degree and it’s disgraceful to know that because a product states that it is Vegan, that it is to be assumed that it has not been tested on animals, however this isn’t necessarily the case. Vegan endorsement or claims relate only to the use of animal ingredients, and has no weight as it relates to animal testing. CCF makes the Accreditation Criteria publically available to everybody so that consumers can see what being on the CCF List really means. The consumer can then decide whether those criteria align with their own personal ethics and beliefs.
CCF produces and maintains the CCF List that covers companies manufacturing and selling products available to Australian consumers, either online or retail. http:// www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/cruelty-free-list/ Companies that want to be successfully accredited and to be placed on the CCF List must complete an extensive questionnaire and application form first. This form is a legal binding document signed by
22
the owner of the company. Companies must also provide documented evidence of no animal testing (or commissioning of testing) on raw ingredients and finished product for at least the last five years. CCF has also strict criteria in relation to animal ingredients. CCF will NOT accredit companies that have a parent or subsidiary company that still conducts animal testing (for example, The Body Shop was removed from CCF List when it was bought by L’Oreal.) In relation to global legislative changes and trends in animal testing of cosmetics, CCF does liaise closely with Humane Research Australia, BUAV and Humane Society International. In relation to other resources CCF make available to consumers, they conduct their own research with reputable authorities. It’s especially satisfying to know that The Greens earlier this year, finally introduced the End Cruel Cosmetics Bill 2014 into Federal Parliament. In 2013, the then Minister for Health Tanya Plibersek announced that if reelected, the Labour government was to open a national dialogue and review of the issue with the view to introducing a ban on the sale of animal-tested cosmetics in Australia. This was as a result of the CCF campaign.
The CCF Postcard Campaign has been running since 1996. CCF has distributed more than 120,000 postcards addressed to the Minister for Health. http://www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au/stop-testing-postcards/ And there is also the online petition which is endorsed by more than 30 Australian animal groups http://www.change.org/en-AU/petitions/australians-for-cruelty-free-cosmetics Each winter they also run an anti-fur campaign to educate consumers about the horrendous cruelty behind this multi-million dollar trade, and the animal breeds used by the fashion industry. Choose Cruelty Free is incredibly determined to see the complete ban on the manufacture, import and sale of cosmetics produced by companies that still animal test and nothing will stand in their way. CCF want to educate consumers about looking deeper into what cosmetic companies are telling them and look for independent assessment, such as that provided by CCF. So Before you purchase that lipstick or before you purchase that stick of deodorant, just stop and think for a moment and take a closer look at it because inwardly you DO know that there is NO excuse for animal abuse, no matter how good that lipstick is.

SHOES GLOR Heather Potter from Melbourne is the shoe’s are my passion I’ve always loved shoes I must admit and my partner has always wanted to run an online business so we decided to combine our passions together and embark on one project. Shoe Envy has now been operating for over 2 years and it’s going strong.
I keep up with trends but I also pave my own pathway I usually make what I like however the choice of colours is definitely influenced, to some extent, by what’s happening in the fashion industry as a whole. There are definite trends in colours from season to season and if I ignore those trends, I do risk designing a whole bunch of shoes that don’t match anything you can buy in stores. But I do like to add a twist to give my shoes some personality and uniqueness, which is what Shoe Envy represents. I design all of Shoe Envy’s range, and I find this is the fun part! I love designing! I get my inspiration from everywhere! From frogs, from dragons, even from classic films to just name a few. All I start with is a shape and from that shape I can build on it. Once I imagine the most awesome shoe in the world, I then I create a picture of it using Photoshop (I used to be an art student) After that I send the image of my creation to my shoe lady and she sends me back a shoe! It’s brilliant!
25
I keep thinking I’ll run out of ideas but there’s always more. I would like to do something inspired by giraffes sometime. All my shoes are animal friendly and I would never use anything but animal-friendly materials in them. After working for WSPA (animal charity) I know what happens in the leather and fur industries so I knew I could never use anything but animal-friendly materials. And people love the idea of wearing something that’s ethical and didn’t cause any suffering. It makes our shoes 100% happy products and I constantly receive positive feedback from clients. I also grew up in remote parts of the Pacific so spent most of my time roaming around in the bush by myself, catching lizards and talking to birds so I have always been an animal lover.
RIOUS SHOES! founder of on-line shoe store Shoe Envy I adore shoes – which is weird because I spent my childhood running around barefoot and hanging upside-down from trees. I remember in my 20’s a time that my sister took me shopping. I can still recall the moment I bought the heels that started me on this slippery slope! Shoes are just such a feel-good product. Like any woman, my weight can go up and down a bit but I always fit my shoes and I always feel great in them. I can be wearing a boring everyday outfit like a pair of jeans and a plain top but when I slip into a pair of spectacular heels it completely transforms it and it transforms me and I feel like a million bucks! Shoes are the accessory that loves you back!

IT’S ALL IN Crystal CAPRICORN –
Slow and steady wins the race but don’t stand still otherwise a dog will mistake you for a tree and piss on you. Come out of hiding and embrace the world, but make sure you put clothes on first.
AQUARIUS – Travel is in the stars for you but it’s more like you’re running away. Your ex will make an appearance but don’t get sucked into it! Go cuddle a cat instead.
PISCES – You don’t know what you’re doing, so finger paint instead. You will get asked out on many dates and will be the tart of the town. Lap up the attention because it won’t last. At least you still have finger painting.
ARIES – You will trample on everyone’s dreams and aspirations but that’s ok
because you will come out on top….on top of a really hot person as well. Good for you! You will start stalking someone that will take up most of your spare time.
TAURUS – Step away from the fridge. You will stuff your face stupid and then complain that you have put on weight. You will sign up for dance classes but will change your mind and take up Italian instead because you love pizza.
GEMINI – You will change direction (again) and will have 2 jobs going at once,
2 lovers going at once, and 2 lies going on at once. The number 2 will be very fortunate for you until you get caught.
27
THE STARS Ball CANCER – You have been hiding and nobody likes that so stop doing it. Nobody likes your criticism especially that you don’t know what’s been going on because you have been hiding. Unless you have somebody to hide with…then you won’t venture out. Pfft, stay where you are, you’re not missing much anyway.
LEO – You have been showing off even to the point of doing a dance routine when the fridge door opens and the light comes on. It’s all about you this month..and next month…and the one after…and after that…remember no one likes a show off except another Leo. Once you pair up there will be nothing stopping you! (God help us)
VIRGO – You will be working hard and have no life and lose all your friends but
that’s ok because you still have Facebook. You may suffer a panic attack because you don’t know who you are but remember what my friend told me “Whenever you feel that you’re in a jam and facing a massive crises, call your mum, call a cab but never call a Pisces” Seems legit.
LIBRA – You are always trying to balance things and this month is no exception,
except that it’s really starting to piss people off. You will leave the house with messy hair and with no makeup to prove a point but then come home because you forgot what that point was.
SCORPIO – You will become well known and even famous this month due to
being a public nuisance – that’s what the Courts will see it as anyway, but you will flirt your way out of it. You will break hearts this month and break out in a weird rash.
SAGITTARIUS – You will sit there and watch life passing you by on the sidelines because you don’t want to look silly. Get in there and get dirty, take that chance. You will spend up big to keep up with the Jones next door until they move out for the

Beaudeen Germano
Beaudeen Germano was minding his own business in Eumundie when he suddenly got accosted by Jaime Sky and Marty Alyse – Owners of SilentEarth Clothing Co. Since then, everybody has been asking ‘Who the hell is that hot guy that has become the face of SilentEarth Clothing?’
Who are you!
I’m Beaudeen Morison Germano.
Where do you live?
I live in Eumundie, Queensland Australia.
Why did you decide to start doing modelling
I was approached by SilentEarth while doing a gig in my band during Mardi Gras. They said I had their look which suited me quite well so I signed up straight away.
Who inspires you?
I am not one to be inspired by people. I am more inspired by events and nature. I especially love the ocean. That and music are my biggest inspirations.
What is the best job you have done? Going on tour with Uncle Bob’s Jug Band.
What do you do when you›re not modelling?
I love to play music and go to the beach. I am currently completing my Year 12 Certificate. It’s my last year of school.

Well so far I have not come across any challenges that I couldn’t overcome. Sometimes finding new locations to model (due to weather changes) can be a challenge in itself!
What are your hobbies and passions?
I enjoy playing music a lot, it is a big part of my life. I also love a good read.
Where do you want modelling to take you?
I don’t quite know yet. I’m just going with the flow and see where it takes me.
And finally the question that’s on everybody’s lips. Who’s lips are you locking with? Ahh..I don’t kiss and tell. Sorry
Beaudeen Germano plays in Uncle Bob’s Jug Band and when he is not touring, he models for SilentEarth Clothing Co. You can view Beaudeens modeling portfolio on SilentEarths Facebook Page Silentearthclothingco

You will never find milk in a hardware store My friend Suzi said this to me over drinks last Saturday night. I had been crying and moaning to her about my relationship woes and venting my frustrations to her when she duly stopped me in my tracks by stating,
“You will never find milk in a hardware store” What a dumb thing to say! Why would you go to a hardware store to buy milk when they clearly do not sell milk? And then it dawned on me, more like a bolt from the blue. Ok, ok it knocked me sideways and brought me to my knees.
I DON’T WANT TO GET MARRIED OR HAVE CHILDREN I start mending my bubble with reasons (which Suzi points out that they are merely excuses) of “We have only been going out for six months, it’s early, it’s new and my partner will change their

OH MY GOD I’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR MILK IN A HARDWARE STORE. I enter every relationship with passion and determination. This is it! This person is THE ONE. I know. Yes yes I know, I said that about the last person, but this person is different and I just KNOW that they are the one. And then I start picturing it. The ceremony, the house, the dog the 2.5 children and the happily ever after’s because after all this person, without a doubt, is THE ONE. I casually bring in the M and C words (for those that have a dirty mind, that stands for Marriage and Children) and the goofy smile is wiped clean off my face and my love bubble bursts into a million little pieces with that one sentence that shatters every girl’s illusion.

mind”. And then I start to nest. Fast forward two years, with a couple’s holiday under our belt, along with good times, bad times and everything else in between, I casually bring up the M and C word again. THIS time will be different! Two years and still going strong. We weathered the storm and baked in the sun. The time is right!
I DON’T WANT TO GET MARRIED OR HAVE CHILDREN What the hell? Still? Wasn’t that just a phase? Oh God, maybe my partner doesn’t think I’m the one? Maybe it’s still too early I reason with myself. And then I walk up and down
the aisles of the hardware store looking for the milk. I casually ask the cashier where the milk is? He tells me he doesn’t have any. I ask him when the next delivery will be? He informs me there will never be a delivery. Ever. I don’t believe him and I wait….and I wait…and I wait…for the delivery that I believe is coming. I approach the cashier once again and demand to know when the milk is arriving and he says it will never arrive and so naturally, I wait some more. I am hoping that the cashier will order the milk in because he can see that I desperately want it. Suzi is unsympathetic to my blues, relationship or otherwise, mainly because she has been through every single breakup that I have encounted and constantly sees the patterns that I create. And as I look to her for the answers to my melodrama, she calmly says, after throwing back her Vodka.

The hospital needed to raise some money, so all the staff had to contribute some how. Out of the blue I heard myself saying I would be the Gypsy in the tent and read palms. The next day I was called into the office by the boss who told me I had raised 200 pounds, a huge amount of money in 1957. Miz Who? Miz Mooz!
Simon Cron is the Managing Director of Miz Mooz Shoes Australia that are featured on page 31 of SilentEarth The Magazine. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand Simon was originally a Physical Education Teacher until moving to Australia in 2006 changed all that. My wife found work as a Nurse with ease when we arrived here but I found it near impossible to find a job in my chosen profession. Due to the many rules and regulations that teaching imposed, It motivated me to search for another career path. Not long after, I soon found myself in a job as the Australian Head of Training for a technical shoe brand called MBT. This suited me quite well as I got to present to medical professionals as well as people with biomechanical issues and I ended up becoming General Manager and worked in the footwear industry for 3 years. Miz Mooz was so different to what we offered in Australia
I went to a shoe fair in Las Vegas looking for the newest technical running products. I ran into the Canadian distributors of MBT, who were good friends of mine that also distributed MIZ MOOZ. He said I had to get this brand into Australia as it was huge in Canada and all the girls loved the shoes. I was not very interested at the time mainly due to my lack of knowledge of female fashion in Australia. On my return from the US I threw the Miz Mooz lookbook on our table and my wife and all her friends said we had to get the brand as it was so different to what was on offer in Australia. After some market research, confirming Miz Mooz was unique and much higher quality than a large number of existing brands, we launched! Miz Mooz was named by the developers of the brand, Ron and Jackie Kenigsberg, in New York. “Miz Mooz” is a play on the Hebrew word for foreplay: “Meez Muz”. Miz Mooz was launched in New York in 2001 by Ron and Jackie Kenigsberg who also had six stores in SoHo on Broadway. Now Miz Mooz is stocked in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. Major department store Nordstrom’s in the US is one of the well-known retailers. In Australia, it’s been operating since 2010 and we have a small dedicated team including five agents that act as State Sales Managers. It’s incredible to know that we now have over 120 stores throughout Australia that stock Miz Mooz Shoes and we prefer to have the boutique network rather than the larger department stores as it enhances the quality of service and experience. People love Miz Mooz as soon as they try them on because the whole brand philosophy is to transcend fashion and comfort so they are extremely well made. I have found that women’s shoe’s will always be in high demand as opposed to men. Since starting in this industry, I have noticed a pattern that men only buy one pair of shoes every few years, and it is often ‘needs based’. Ladies on the other hand, love shoes and they are ‘want based’ decisions so they have exponentially more shoes than men!

Finding Balance Through Kinesiology: East Meets West By Kate Pamphilon
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to talk to your body? “Why do I keep getting a sore back and neck?” “Why am I feeling anxious?” Well, the good news is – you can! Kinesiology combines the ancient wisdom of Eastern healing practices with Western techniques. Through muscle monitoring, a kinesiologist uses this system of biofeedback to find stressors in your body, be it physical, physiological, emotional, mental, or spiritual and helps to release them through a range of non-invasive techniques.
Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing complementary medicine modalities in Australia, and being holistic, natural and gentle means that those who see a Kinesiologist are excited about the changes they see and feel.
body to each meridian. Through further development of muscle testing techniques, Goodheart gave kinesiologists the ability to access the state of energy within a meridian and draw on thousands of years of wisdom, insight and practical applications to the mind, body and spirit whole.
The Exciting Emergence of ‘Energetic Kinesiology’
‘Energetic Kinesiology’ grew in popularity as practitioners worked holistically, drawn to the ability to not only treat the physical body but to access subconscious emotions, mental patterns and connection to spirit. In the 1970s and 80s, Dr Alan Beardall discovered several profound uses for muscle monitoring through his clinical work and in-depth study of anatomy and physiology. Beardall understood that the messages from a muscle to the brain was either a ‘yes, I am in balance and can
The History of Kinesiology
To understand what kinesiology is, let’s look at how it was developed. Kinesiology means ‘the study of movement’. In the 1930s and ‘40s ‘Academic Kinesiology’ began as the systematisation of isolating individual muscles and testing them in their contracted state to assess the health of the muscle for patients with disabilities such as polio. However, in the 1960s chiropractor Dr George Goodheart took kinesiology to new level developing what is now known as ‘Applied Kinesiology’. Through keen observation, Goodheart noted that certain muscles were presenting as weak in clients with particular physical ailments. This was the start of Goodheart’s work in bringing together muscles and organs of the body. Goodheart began to link techniques such as ‘neurolymphatic reflexes’ (points on the body that improve lymph flow) and ‘neurovascular reflexes’ (improving blood flow) and his own ‘origin and insertion’ massage to balance a muscle and return it to health. He noted that once improvement was seen in a muscle, the same affect was had across the whole body. Still, he felt there was more and it was a friend who introduced him to the acupuncture meridian system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This gave Goodheart the final piece of the muscle-organ-meridian matrix. He was able to relate muscles in the
contract’ (known as ‘lock’) or ‘no, I am stressed and unable to function’ (known as ‘unlock’). And so began the ability to talk with the body and test a client for stress in an acupoint on a meridian, determining whether the stress was physical, physiological, nutritional, emotional, mental or spiritual when a muscle presented as ‘lock’ or ‘unlock’. Once a correction such as neurolymphatic reflex points was applied the muscle was retested and the stress challenged and a muscle now in balance indicated that healing had begun to take place.
The history of Kinesiology did not stop there as momentum took the field into the world of yogic mudras, chakras, emotion and thought patterns, the brain and learning, nutrition, hormones, goal setting and spiritual work to name a few. Today, there is a diverse range of Kinesiology practices, some of which are: Touch For Health, Clinical Kinesiology, Biokinesiology, Brain Gym and Edu-K, Three In One, Applied Physiology, Professional Kinesiology Practitioner (PKP), Vibrational Healing System (VHS), Neuroenergetic Kinesiology (NEK) and much more! Techniques to restore balance have expanded to include acupressure, flower essences, sound therapy, light therapy, essential oils, physical corrections, and esoteric energy healing.
Kinesiology and You
You can work with a Kinesiologist for any issue. The practitioner will use the muscles in your body to uncover the pattern of imbalance within each level of existence from the cellular level right up to the divine spiritual plane. Your body has a memory. It expresses genetic patterns and responds to daily life accordingly and the stressors from past and present are triggered in daily life. By working to release these stressors you are able to understand yourself better, learn healing techniques to do at home and connect to your own innate healing. Most of all, you are able to reach your full potential and be at you best. So try it now – find a Kinesiologist that resonates with you and start listening to your body, finding balance and your own personal power!

T here’s a small quant village in Victoria, Australia that’s blessed with luscious sub-alpine forest. It is also happens to be blessed with mystery and enchantment because it is here in Marysville, that you will find a child sleeping on a panther and even a young princess that rides on a unicorn. If you’re one of the lucky few, you may even encounter the mermaid that has been seen resting quietly on the waters edge.
WELCOME TO BRUNO’S ART AND SCULPTURE GARDEN Bruno Torfs was born in South America and lived there with his family until the age of 15. When his family decided to move to Europe to find better opportunities, it is then this talented and inspiring man started making sculptures. After I had travelled around the world and sketched impressions along the way, I was fortunate enough to observe the sculptures of a young artist in Antwerp, Belgium. Naturally I became inspired and therefore, began to use clay to create Terracotta Sculptures myself. Inspiration came incredibly quickly and in many forms. I’m still inspired to this day by nature, by people, and by the stories I hear but mainly, my inspiration comes from my own vast imagination. It really is an advantage that clay is a flexible material, because it does allow me to be playful and experimental. Clay enables me to receive results very quickly, so it has instantly it become my passion. It is also an advantage I must say, that artistic talent also runs in my family.
The 2009 Victorian bushfires that swept through Marysville completely destroyed his home and his Sculpture Garden.
55
Unfortunately, during the devastating 2009 bushfires many of the life size sculptures were crushed by the falling trees, however we were fortunate enough to restore most of them. Rebuilding after the bushfires was an incredibly important project to achieve, as we needed to bring Marysville back to life. We were fortunate enough to receive a huge amount of support, not only from Australians but also from those around the world. It was clear and obvious that everyone was keen to see the rebirth of the Gardens. After one and a half years of hard work and from the help of many individuals, the Garden started looking beautiful again. It was moving to see how many people cared for each other in this sort of situation and wanted to offer their help and assistance. Personally, the bushfires actually enriched my life in so many ways. Life is about stories, about moments so it’s important to embrace whatever we might face and to grasp whatever life throws at us and try and transfer that it into a creative way. Well I find that’s my challenge anyway. At present, there are more than a hundred sculptures and counting. There are always new additions placed in the Garden, so come along and see for yourself! The Sculpture Garden is a place of wonder and magic and also a place to get in touch with your inner child.
To see people enjoying themselves, embracing the atmosphere and to escape into dreamland that the Sculpture Gardens offer and then leave smiling is the reason I do this. It is an extremely rewarding experience that I love sharing with the world.
Bruno’s Art and sculpture Garden is situated in Marysville, Victoria Australia.

MakeUp By Matison Matison Lavery is the make Up Artist for SilentEarth Clothing Co. Dayboro Photo Shoot and while she was transforming the models, she took a moment to answer some questions for us.
Why did you decide to start doing makeup?
I studied Visual Arts all through high school and have always been a creative, hands on person. I loved the idea of a creative career so when I left high school, I did a day course in makeup to get a feel of what the industry was like and fell in love immediately. My background of Visual arts has helped me so much with my makeup and given me a unique and creative style.
Where do you want to go with makeup?
Who inspires you?
I’m inspired by lots of different things. Fashion and makeup books and magazines, work of other makeup artists I look up too. My phone is just full of images of makeups I’m just dying to try out and adapt!
I’m hoping to just have a wonderful and fulfilling career in this industry, especially with creative fashion makeup and beauty makeup.
Best job you have done? This is a hard one, well I haven’t had a bad job yet! I’ve enjoyed every moment of my makeup career so far from simple beauty looks to creative fashion looks to scary Halloween makeups!
Challenges that you face being a MUA?
Most unusual request?
My most unusual work would have to be some of my face painting and SPFX work. You get the strangest requests from children for face painting such as an alien, crocodile. But it’s awesome because it gives me a bit of a challenge. I even turned my 35 year old mother into a 80 year old woman using SPFX makeup products, that was quite unusual!
The biggest challenge for me as a makeup artist would be building my business, freelancing is new to me and I’m learning something new on how to improve my business through each client I work with.
