Trade Unions, Class & Power
Tackling Britain’s Housing Crisis
This course, led by Professor Mary Davis, looks at the strengths and weaknesses of the trade union movement in Britain today, how the experience of work is changing and how people can be won to become active trade unionists in current circumstances. The course examines exploitation, how all workers are exploited and what constitutes the working class. It stresses the importance of trade union activity but also argues that wider political mobilisation of working people as a class is essential.
Britain’s housing crisis has been increasing dramatically, as the horror of the Grenfell Tower disaster so tragically demonstrates. These three sessions will provide the background information that we need in order to campaign most effectively, making the arguments for alternative policies. They examine the historical and economic context, policy options and campaigning strategies.
