Workshops for Schools at
Marx Memorial Library
The Marx Memorial Library is one of London's best kept academic secrets. This year, we are encouraging GCSE and A Level students to visit us and beneďŹ t from access to our rare archives. We are opening our doors to schools to help students further advance their studies and learn more from the unique selection of historical sources and artefacts that we hold. We invite those interested to walk in the footsteps of past revolutionaries and explore our distinctive library and museum for themselves.

Marx Memorial Library & Workers' School 37a Clerkenwell Green London EC1R 0DU
An easy walk just minutes from Farringdon station, in the heart of Clerkenwell, the Marx Memorial Library is found in a Grade ll listed building dating from 1737. When students come through the door of our charming Georgian town house, they are stepping into history, and will be met by a world class collection of published and unpublished material on Socialism, Marxism, revolutionary struggles and the Trade Union movement.
Tours last about 40 minutes and are followed by a talk given by our archivist, after which students have the opportunity to ask questions. Schools may choose tours based on the following popular topics: •Marx and Lenin in London •The Russian Revolution While individual items are normally only available to visitors on request, we are giving History students access to the whole of our collection in specially tailored tours. Our tours allow students to access to an exciting and extensive archive of books, periodicals, newspapers, photographs, posters and monographs. In addition, A level students may be introduced to primary source research. As students tour the Marx Memorial Library, they walk in the footsteps of Lenin, and Marx's extraordinary daughter and translator of many of his works, Eleanor. They pass through rooms adorned with banners, plates, portraits and plaques, all celebrating working class history. They can also explore the office, complete with copies of the Bolshevik's newspaper, ISKRA, where Lenin worked in exile.
•The Spanish Civil War •The rise of fascism in Europe
In addition, if you have A level students who are researching topics such as the Spanish Civil War, the Russian Revolution, the struggle against fascism in Britain, for their EPQ (Extended Project) please get in touch - we would be delighted to help students engage with our large archive of primary sources. As well as school visits for GCSE and A Level students, sessions can be adapted for younger groups and undergraduates.
