Coming Home

I

‘ve never taken a vacation during the holidays, unless it was to celebrate with out-of-town relatives. Over the years, my husband and I have toyed with the idea of a Caribbean cruise or Christmas in London, but we just can’t do it. We simply must be home for the holidays. This year, staying home will be a no-brainer, as we now have a new generation of bright-eyed, Santa-believing children to enjoy. A six-year-old niece, a two-year-old grandson and a brand-new grandbaby have brought renewed magic to our family gatherings. We wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else. Here at the office, we have another homecoming of sorts, as our former publisher, WiesnerMedia, recently bought back CH&L, once again making us a true Colorado-based business. Several members of our staff were around years ago when this familyowned company was in charge, and we’re truly feeling like we’ve come happily home again. Our Home for the Holidays Issue celebrates the season, with bold, festive homes, creative tips for setting a beautiful table, and yummy bread recipes that are perfect for winter entertaining. As we wrap up another year of publication—our 34th—I want to thank all of the readers, advertisers and my incredibly talented and hard-working colleagues for CH&L’s longevity and continued success. This year, I have many reasons to be grateful and celebrate, both personally and professionally. I hope you do, too. Cheers,

My Current Obsession: Nature-Inspired Décor

Colorado-Style Warmth: My husband jokes that when the temperature drops below 80 degrees, I’m reaching for a blanket. It’s true; I like to be warm. These soft and cozy pillows and throws from Ruff Hewn are perfect for snuggling in front of the fireplace on a snowy evening. Find Ruff Hewn products at Herberger’s in Grand Junction. herbergers.com Birch Ornaments: Denver-based Birdsall is one of my favorite shops for all things outdoor, but it carries charming ornaments and gift items during the winter too. These delicate wooden snowflakes will be perfect on my all-natural tree. birdsallgardens.com 10

Cute Critters: Robert Redford started the Sundance catalog 25 years ago, filling it with handcrafted clothing and home décor items from artisans across the U.S. I saw this adorable “High-Country Herd” and was immediately smitten (fortunately, Sundance has a retail store in Park Meadows Mall). sundancecatalog.com
