“ ​ Discuss the role that Illustration can play during periods of political

and/or social upheaval." Illustration is one of the ways for people to express how they feel about the government and society. To have the desired result, the illustrator should be sensitive and acuity of the subject issue. They should have a clear perception and perceived speculations in order to achieve resonance and acceptance from the reader's / general public. When people are satisfied with the Government performance and the general economic environment and social conditions , people would not keep on focusing and criticising the government and vice versa. Normally, if dissatisfaction did not reach to a certain level (critical point), for example, when there are sudden or unpredicted problems occurred, e.g. the ISIS attacks, the proposed increase in the VAT and etc. ,they started to worry about their livelihood, economics and political concerns regardless how and what the ministry and government officials had undertaken or had guaranteed to resolve / tackle the problem. People would think that the Government is slow in solving any problems. This would lead to panic, anxiety and dissatisfaction being developed within the society. The British government had acquired Hong Kong under the "Treaty of Nanking" in 1842 to cede Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula south. Hong Kong has been colonised under British government more than 15 decades until 1 st July 1997 when the British government handover Hong Kong back to China and signed the Sino­British Joint Declaration. The British governance through the past decades had great impacts and influences in the life of Hong Kong people. In order to maintain and stablise the political, social and economic atmosphere of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Chinese government enacted the "one country, two systems" law upon the handover of Hong Kong’s sovereignty. Hong Kong is a city of mixing Chinese and western culture. Modern sky high buildings could be found in everywhere in this city, also, it keeps the traditional buildings such as temples, old markets and expensive restaurants are located in the same place, a perfect blend with Eastern and Western hybrid example. In the book: Hong Kong Art Culture and Decolonization has mentioned a quote: “In the case of Hong Kong, nationalism is a discourse in the service of annexation, not for liberation. Hong Kongnses has as a species of rootless, non­essentialising or post­modern identity which might usefully be considered by those concerned with cultural identity politics elsewhere” (Clarke, 2002, P.36). The society responded. Numberless of anime lovers were felt apprehensible and irritated about the amendment, yet uploading their own photographs could contravene as a crime also could be sent to prison. Nevertheless, this Internet Article 23 has been deliberation for more than two years.
