LOCK CENTER 14

When the Lock was built in 1963, it was only the latest in a series of insertions into the river. St. Anthony Falls was turned from a place of cultural meaning to the Oceti Sakowin into a place of industrial production.

A new, public place to be should do lightly on the lock

FOUNDRY MUSEUM

SPRING 2018 ANDRZEJ PIOTROWSKI

Post-industrial relic, common in the Midwestern US fabric, is rehabilitated and repurposed. a place of work becomes a place of learning old meets new but there has to be something in the middle

Could the neoliberal museum, a multifunctional place of income generating, be a place to remember laborers? Foundry workers, warehousers, millers, steel workers turned sharing economy gig workers?

FOUNDRY 32

The form of the museum mirrors the intent: a museum of labor and an office space, with monumental, quiet space in the center.

MICRO CABIN

FALL 2018 BOB GANSER

Back at the lock, examining the existing structures - the aesthetic of function, rounded corners make heavy industry seem whimsical.

A series of microcabins insert themselves into the interior of the lock.
