A R T I S T S T A T E M E N T My father grew up in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico and my mother is a city girl from the suburbs of Chicago. They met and the rest was history. You could say I am a balance of both worlds. When I was young, my grandpa on my father’s side took me to visit his hometown of Zaragoza, Spain. We stayed in the same apartment where his mother lived, down the street from the Puerta del Carmen, the city’s last standing gate of the Peninsular War. I vividly remember the colors of the festivals, the immensity of the cathedrals and the calmness of the siestas. It was that place that inspired me to want to create, if not for a living, then for my own personal enjoyment.
In the beginning, I did not think my portfolio had a particular theme. I simply drew what I loved and what I thought would get the most fun out of. It was not until sometime later that I realized that many of my works revolved around the idea of a femme fatale, minus the whole man-eating shtick. I am no psychologist, but that has got to mean something. I gain much of my inspiration from the Ziegfeld Follies, vintage burlesque and pin-up illustrations. Artists Alberto Vargas and Rene Gruau are huge inspirations for me. When it comes to my technique, I am not very particular on what tools or materials I use. I mainly have a vision of what I want a finished product to look like and I utilize as many tools as I can to recreate the result that I want. Many of the works in this portfolio are a combination of mechanical pencil, acrylic paint and colored pencils. Much like my family, my art is a little bit of everything wrapped into one and is something I will always hold dear to my heart.

Can you see anything?’ it was all I could do to get out the words, ‘Yes, wonderful things.” ― Howard Carter, upon the discovery of the Tomb of Tutankhamen in 1922 Like Carter peeking into the tomb, each window of the diorama offers the viewer a sense of discovery.

“The process of transforming a 2D picture into a 3D experience” The photograph of Lou Gehrig is first colorized and then transferred into Adobe After Effects. He is then cropped out and a background is added. When played, the subtle movement of the bat, body and ball give the illusion of a slow-motion moment in time.
