Since its debut, the show has reached cult status among fans, and its breakout star, a talking baby, has become one of the greatest TV villains of all time. FAMILY GUY has racked up numerous awards, including an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, only the second animated series in television history to be honored with such a distinction by now. Next season, Peter befriends Ryan Reynolds (guest-voicing as himself ), the Griffins struggle to stay grounded after winning the lottery, Meg falls for an Amish 6

boy and Stewie gets behind the wheel to take the family car for a spin. Then, on Meg’s 18th birthday, Quagmire moves in for the kill, and Peter tries to put an end to the relationship. Finally, Brian and Stewie travel back in time to the very first episode of the series. In addition to the regular cast, FAMILY GUY has featured guest voice appearances by a long list of notables, including Cheryl Tiegs,

Drew Barrymore, Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Anne Hathaway, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe, Hugh Hefner, Will Ferrell, Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Kiefer Sutherland, James Woods, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and the legendary rock group KISS. amily Guy’s tenth season debuted on the Fox network, on September 25, 2011. The series followed the Griffin family, a dysfunctional family consisting of father Peter, mother Lois, daughter Meg, son Chris, baby Stewie and Brian, the family pet, who reside in their hometown of Quahog. The executive producers for the tenth production season are Seth MacFarlane, Chris Sheridan, Danny Smith, Mark Hentemann, Steve Callaghan, Alec Sulkin, and Wellesley Wild. The showrunners are Hentemann and Callaghan. In 2008, it was announced that the series had been renewed through at least 2012, for a tenth season. It was also announced in 2010 that the series had been renewed in syndication through at least 2015.

During this season, Peter becomes friends with Ryan Reynolds (guest-voicing as himself), the Griffins win the lottery, Meg falls in love with an Amish boy as Peter goes to war with his family, Stewie starts driving Brian’s car and accidentally crashes it, Meg dates Quagmire on her 18th birthday, Quagmire asks Peter and Joe to help him kill his sister’s violently abusive boyfriend, Peter befriends a dolphin (voiced by Ricky Gervais) and Brian and Stewie travel back in time to the very first episode of the series. Also, the hurricane-themed episode that was going to air as part of the ninth season in a crossover with The Cleveland Show and American Dad! has aired as the second episode of the season on October 2, 2011.

It was put on hold because of the event of the series of tornadoes that killed an estimated 346 people in the Southern United States around the time of the planned original release date in this area. On the return from an adventurous day at an amusement park, the Griffins’ car breaks down in Amish country and they are stranded with no way out. When Meg falls for an Amish boy, the Griffins then find themselves in a crusade led by Peter against the conservative locals. When a storm hits Quahog, Brian consumes some magic mushrooms to pass the time and has trouble sobering up after a bad trip. Meanwhile, Meg freaks out after the family takes one too many jabs at her, ocassion for a family reunion.

orn late 1964 or early 1965), is the obnoxious, boisterous man who is the protagonist of the show and origin of the title “Family Guy”. He’s a 44-year-old man of Irish descent currently residing in Quahog, Rhode Island with his wife Lois Griffin. He was, however, born in Mexico, where his mother had tried unsuccessfully to abort him. They have three children, Chris, Meg, and baby Stewie. After a mix up at a sperm bank, Peter also became the biological father of Bertram. Out of pity he also adopted an intellectual talking dog named Brian who formerly lived on the street as a stray. Peter appears to be unintelligent and is consistently depicted as crude and lowbrow. He enjoys activities such as going to upmarket tailors and farting inside the suits. His favorite pastime is watching TV. A running gag on the show is Peter’s preference for Pauly Shore movies over classic films

such as The Godfather and Citizen Kane. He is also a huge Kiss fan and followed them during the KissStock shows and even got a copy of Kiss Saves Santa for Christmas. Peter is also an ardent fan of Barry Manilow, though this is a fact he has been known to deny in public (to a certain extent, anyway). Peter also mentions that he wears the male deodorant Speed Stick to his wife Lois, saying “Smell my Speed Stick?” while he is standing behind her in the office. Peter also mentioned that he enjoys the following breakfast cereals: Total, Trix, and Boo Berry. with some oh’s. An I.Q. test confirms that his low intellect places him in a category below mentally retarded. His mental shortcomings have resulted in various accidents to other people; most notably the death of his stepfather Francis Griffin, and injuries on multiple occasions to his wife Lois Griffin. His attention span is also incredibly short. When he dis-

covers his mental retardation in “Petarded”, he closes his eyes while driving, wishing “it would all be over” (hitting Tom Tucker with his car instead causing this). Peter also has a habit of proving his masculinity, not wanting Lois to fall for another man. He is incredibly jealous of other attractions Lois has in her life, an attitude that tends to get out of hand in most cases; in “Stuck Together, Torn Apart”, he goes so far as to punch his reflection in the mirror after Lois comments on it being handsome, reflecting not only his personality, buts hers as well.

Peter appears to be unintelligent and is consistently depicted as crude and lowbrow. 13

CHARACTER

Stevie Griffin “the son”

14

orn April 18th, 1998, is the matricidal, megalomaniacal 1 year old infant of the Griffin family. According to Dammit Janet! he has also been known to answer to “Artemis”, “Agent Buckwald”, “Hobo”, and “Snake”. He rather likes “Snake.” He had his first birthday in Chitty Chitty Death Bang. However, it should be noted that his age is still listed as ‘one’ even though people in the series are still getting older (i.e Cleveland jr, and Brian). Stewie is well-spoken, with an advanced vocabulary and an English accent, and of an ambiguous sexual orientation. Seth MacFarlane has described him as “an evil Rex Harrison”. He has a love-hate relationship with the family dog Brian, and of course tells him almost all his secrets (Road to Rhode Island and Road to Europe). Stewie is constantly plotting ways to kill his mother, Lois, apparently holding a grudge against her because of his nine-month stay in her “ovar-

ian Bastille.” He shares his secrets with his confidant, Rupert, a stuffed teddy bear. Stewie is known to display gay attraction to both Brian and Rupert, but has also formed brief heterosexual relationships, notably with Olivia and Janet.

Seth MacFarlane has described him as “an evil Rex Harrison”. Stewie often speaks from the standpoint of a much older person, saying such things as. “What is it that you children are into nowadays?” said Stevie. On the show, Stewie engages in extreme violent or criminal acts, including robbery, carjacking, loan sharking, forgery, and killing off many

minor characters. The characters he kills off are for reasons such as anger, jealousy, and grudges he holds. Stewie’s mastery of physics, mechanical engineering, and firearm are at a level of science fiction. He has constructed advanced fighter-jets, a mind control device, a weather control device, robots, a time machine, a shrinking pod, a teleportation device, and more. Stewie employs these to deal with the stresses of infant life (such as teething pain, and eating hated broccoli) or to kill his mother or others. Stewie’s ability to move objects of greater weight than himself is not surprising to other characters, nor is his ability to perform martial arts or retrieve firearms from hammerspace. It has been implied that Stewie has a masochistic personality. This was revealed in one episode when Lois spanked Stewie for destroying her pearl necklace. Stewie claimed to have enjoyed suffering.

FAM FRIEND

Glenn Quagmire sex-crazed

He’s the , perverted neighbor of the Griffins. Quagmire is a former ensign of the U.S. Navy, where he met Peter Griffin. In “Meet the Quagmires”, it is established that he already knew Peter and his future wife Lois Pewterschmidt. He currently works as an airline pilot.

Q

uagmire is roughly 5’8” tall in “Blind Ambition” and 61 years old according to his driver’s license in “FOX-y Lady”. He explains that he makes himself look younger by consuming carrots. Glenn currently resides at 29 Spooner Street, Quahog, Rhode Island. His catchphrase “Giggity” has been used many times in popular culture since the beginning of the show in 1999, such as in a Progressive automobile insurance advertisement and the January 4, 2011 episode of Around the Horn. Years

16

ago, Quagmire used to go out with Cheryl Tiegs, whom he loved. Unfortunately, he lost her, and has tried to fill the hole she left by having sex with women. He has pictures of Lois in his house, including on the inside of his closet door. He was once arrested for peeping on Lois in the girls’ bathroom. He was also briefly married to a maniac named Joan. She died after clutching onto Death’s arm. Quagmire is currently a widower, although this is no problem for him, as he can now get it on with

more girls, without having to worry about cheating. In “420”, Quagmire gets a new pet cat named James. Tragically, when Quagmire went to Vermont to buy a present for James, Peter, Joe, Cleveland, and Brian, go over to Quagmire’s to shave James as a prank, which backfired when Peter accidentally stabs James. Peter reveals this when Quagmire offers a reward for knowing where James is simply to take the reward. In his spare time, he is a voracious reader, and participates regularly in local Book Club meetings.

bodies. What makes Brian and Quagmire’s desires towards Lois different, is that while Quagmire is only interested in sex. Brian, as shown in “Play It Again, Brian”, believes that Lois is more deserving of him due to Peter often neglecting his wife for other interests and that they have more things in common. The conflict between him and Brian continues in “Quagmire’s Dad” when Quagmire beat Brian for dating his sex-changed father, despite the fact that Brian wasn’t aware of this until Stewie told him just before Quagmire arrived. An angry Brian gets the final word, however, when he says to Quagmire, “I fucked your dad”. Since then, the running gag has been whenever the two interact, Quagmire has been very rude to Brian, despite Brian’s attempts to be polite, treating Brian like he is much more of a jerk than he really is. It usually ends where Quagmire quickly points out Brian’s faults, or Brian inadvertently causes a situation that makes Quagmire hate him even more such as what happened with his 5-year old niece Abby in “Road to the North Pole”. It should be noted however, that before the writIronically, Quagmire has hit on ers rewrote Quagmire’s Lois as well, but claims to be hon- personality to be nastier est about dating women for their towards Brian, Quagmire Quagmire house is much in style with the 1950s-1960s. He also has a son in Madrid, Spain who greatly resembles Quagmire, but with a snappy mustache and a ponytail, as seen in “Peter’s Got Woods” despite claiming never to have had sex with a Spanish woman. However, it is possible he does not know the difference since he was with Tricia Takanawa when he made the claim. He also seems to have several illegitimate children in Quahog, some of whom go to Martin Mull Elementary School, as seen in “Tales of a Third Grade Nothing”. Of all his known illegitimate children, the only one with whom he has attempted to develop a relationship and take care of is Anna Lee Quagmire, who is dropped off at his doorstep in “Quagmire’s Baby”. He ends up giving her to adoption to give her a better life than he could ever provide for them. Even though Quagmire was the first person Cleveland informed about the spin-off, after Cleveland moved away, Quagmire has shown nothing but envy toward Cleveland, to the point of convincing himself that he was getting a spinoff and after delivering Loretta’s deceased body, calling Cleveland “Joey”. This envy has not ceased, as in the first season finale of The Cleveland Show, he and Peter attend Cleveland’s parents wedding, and Quagmire asks Peter if he can have his own show, but Peter says he can’t because he’s a rapist.

in earlier seasons. It’s possible that the real reason that Quagmire no longer likes Brian is because Brian is simply a dog, as Quagmire developed an attraction to cats as demonstrated in “420” and in “Brothers & Sisters”, as well. “Giggity, giggity goo!”

Ironically, Quagmire has hit on Lois as well, but claims to be honest about dating women for their bodies. 17

he episode begins in a similar fashion to the previous parodies, as the power suddenly goes off in the Griffin household. However, unlike the previous times, in which the act causes the Griffin family to be surprised, they instead complain about it because, in Stewie’s words, “we’re going to do Jedi now, aren’t we?” Peter sighs, and asks the family to let him get through this.

Darth Vader (Stewie Griffin) arrives at the second Death Star and is greeted by Moff Jerjerrod (Roger Smith). Upon hearing that the same design flaw that plagued the first Death Star is present in the new design (and commenting that they’ve run out of Family Guy characters to portray the Star Wars cast), Vader tells Jerjerrod to fix it before the Emperor (Carter

Pewterschmidt) arrives. Meanwhile, on Tatooine, C-3PO (Glenn Quagmire) and R2-D2 (Cleveland Brown) arrive at Jabba’s Palace to deliver a message to the Hutt (Joe Swanson), whereupon they are sold to Jabba, who commands Flick from A Christmas Story to lick the carbonite form of Han Solo (Peter Griffin) in a “triple dog dare.” Later that night, Leia Organa (Lois Griffin), disguised as Boushh, frees Han from the carbonite prison. The pair are quickly captured and Han is sent to the dungeon with Chewbacca (Brian Griffin), who was caught eating out of Jabba’s trash. The next morning, Luke Skywalker (Chris Griffin) arrives and tries to barter with Jabba for the lives of his friends, but is thrown into the rancor pit (despite Threepio’s best attempts to warn him) and confronts Jabba’s Rancor (Rush Limbaugh). After killing the beast, Luke, Han and Chewbacca are brought to Jabba, who decrees that they are to be thrown into the Sarlacc (Meg Griffin). Arriving at the Dune Sea, the trio are about to be flung into the pit when R2-D2 throws Luke his lightsaber, who then proceeds to attack Jabba’s guards while rescuing Leia (who kills Jabba). Boba

Fett (Ernie the Giant Chicken) tries to kill Han but falls overboard off screen. Han rescues Lando Calrissian (Mort Goldman) after the latter is thrown over the skiff (and despite being shot numerous times by the blinded Han.) Meanwhile, Emperor Palpatine arrives and, after meeting with a sick boy named Jeremy, is informed by Vader that the Death Star will completed on schedule, but that his room will not be ready till 4:00pm. On Dagobah, Luke meets with Yoda (Carl), who tells the young Jedi that his training is complete and that he must face Vader once more. Before passing away, he reveals to Luke that he has a sister. Following Yoda’s passing (and after using Yoda’s credit card to order a package from Hammacher Schlemmer), Luke is confronted by Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert) who reveals that Leia is his sister because she is “the only other goddamned woman in the galaxy out there.”

Lethal Weapons

The quiet of Quahog is disrupted when the leaves start turning fall colors and “leafers” from New York City invade town. Bonnie invites Lois to a Tae Jitsu class where Lois quickly advances to black belt. Peter almost gets into a fight with a new yorker, but Lois beats him up instead to keep Peter out of trouble. Lois and Brian think Peter is embarrassed, but Peter changes his mind, and exploits Lois’s fighting abilities to drive the leafers back to New York. Peter takes advantage of this to a great level, but Lois begins to get out of control. She even attacks her karate sensei. In one occurrence in a scene Lois “rapes” Peter. Griffin. Stewie walks in on Peter eating his graham crackers, and gets very angry. Peter tells Brian what Lois did, but when Stewie strikes Peter with a baseball bat, Lois resolves to rid the house of anger. She takes Stewie to a child’s anger management class, but Stewie attacks the psychiatrist. Soon Lois gets into an argument with Peter, but Brian tries to convince them by giving them supposed mood elevating drugs but it ends up that he lied and gave them placebos. Peter and Lois argue again, then they get into a fight. Peter surprisingly manages to be evenly matched with Lois, so Chris cheers him on. Meg gets angry with Chris because Peter was the one who took advantage of Lois, but Chris counters by reminding her that Lois went out of control. Meg pokes Chris in anger, and Chris attacks her, saying he doesn’t like to be touched. Stewie and Brian then begin to fight for no reason. The family ends up in an all-out brawl. They fight viciously, destroying everything in the house. But they begin to laugh when they realize how ridiculous

this all is. The laughter is cut short when Stewie hits Lois with a chair. Finally exhausted, with broken bones and a ruined house, they blame the violence on TV. Peter then blames the network, FOX, and the shows budget is cut short as revenge.

Running Mates

Chris’s principal at Buddy Cianci Junior High calls and reports that Chris was caught peeking into the girls’ locker room. While at the school to discuss Chris’s situation, his father Peter spots Mr. Fargus, who had been his favorite teacher. Fargus is much more subdued than Peter remembers due to the medications the school board orders him to take. Peter throws the medication away, hoping that he will once again be a wacky, inspiring teacher. To help Chris keep out of trouble while dealing with his natural curiosity about women, Peter gives him a pile of his old skin mags. A news flash reports that Mr. Fargus, off his medication and unbalanced, conducted a student egg drop event using the eggs of the “endangered California condor”. Fargus is immediately fired for his lack of judgment. The same news report mentions that school board candidate Betsy Lebeau has withdrawn, leaving Lois unopposed. Peter demands that Lois get Fargas’ job back, which Lois refuses to do. Peter, convinced that Mr. Fargas’ firing was unfair, decides to enter the race for school board president as well as for now. Meanwhile, Chris begins showing his new found trove of pornography to school buddies, and Stewie begins to realize that he misses Lois acting as foil to his schemes. Cleveland expresses concern for Peter’s campaign, since he has no support entering a debate. Predictably, Peter retorts to Lois’s wellthought-out platform.

he story of The Empire Strikes Back is retold. It is the sequel to Blue Harvest. The family experiences another power outage and Peter nearly ventures into telling the story of Black Snake Moan, gets back on track. Darth Vader (Stewie), having become obsessed with finding Luke Skywalker (Chris), has multiple probe droids dispatched throughout the galaxy, one of which lands on Hoth. While patrolling near the base, Luke is attacked and knocked unconscious by a Wampa. (Cookie Monster) Back at the base, Han Solo (Peter) announces his intentions to leave and retire his debt to Jabba the Hutt (much to Princess Leia’s (Lois) displeasure). But when Luke doesn’t return that evening, Han braves the deadly Hoth night to find his lost friend. Escaping from the creature’s lair, Luke nearly succumbs to the cold and has a vision of his late mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Herbert), who instructs him to go to the planet Dagobah to train under grand Master Yoda.(Carl) Han finds Luke and provides shelter before they are rescued the following morning. Meanwhile, the Imperial probe droid locates the Rebel base on Hoth, and Vader orders an attack while the Rebels prepare to evacuate and disperse. The Imperial forces eventually overpower the Rebels and capture the base. Han and Leia escape on the Millennium Falcon with C-3PO (Quagmire) and Chewbacca and his friends. They evade pursuit in an asteroid field, where Han and Leia begin to grow closer to each other. Vader turns to several notorious bounty hunters, including Boba Fett (Ernie the giant chicken), to assist in locating the Falcon. Meanwhile, Luke escapes from Hoth with R2D2 and crash lands on Dagobah,

where he meets Yoda. After losing the Imperial forces, and unaware that they have been tracked by Fett, Han’s party sets a course for Cloud City, a floating gas mining colony in the skies of the planet Bespin, which is run by Han’s old friend, Lando Calrissian. (Mort Goldman) Shortly after they arrive at Cloud City, they are captured by Vader. While undergoing intensive training, Luke has a premonition of his friends in trouble and sets off to rescue them from the tramp. Vader intends to hold Luke in suspended animation via carbon freezing, and selects Han as a test subject for the process. After a somewhat less tender goodbye with Leia than in the original film, Han is frozen for posterity. Lando helps Leia and the others escape. Unfortunately, Fett makes off with his quarry just seconds before they get a chance to confront him, forcing them to make an escape on the Millennium Falcon. Meanwhile, Luke arrives at Cloud City and falls right into Vader’s trap. Luke and Vader engage in a lightsaber duel, which leads them over the city’s central air shaft. Gaining an advantage, Vader cuts off Luke’s dueling hand along with his lightsaber. With Luke cornered and defenseless, Vader goads Luke to rule the galaxy alongside him, making the revelation that he is in fact Luke’s father. Horrified, Luke casts himself into the air shaft, plummeting until he reaches a tube system that spills him out onto an antenna. It has been implied that Stewie has a masochistic personality. This was revealed in one episode when Lois spanked Stewie for destroying her pearl necklace. Stewie claimed to have enjoyed suffering from such pain, and unsuccessfully went out his to provoke Lois several times in the episode into spanking him again. He even had a day dream in which he was tortured by a dominatrix who claims yo be his girlfirend.

orn Lois Pewterschmidt, she met Peter when he was employed as a towel boy. Her rich father cannot stand Peter and makes mean comments at every chance he gets. Peter seems to unintentionally do his absolute best to be a thorn in his side. Lois lives at 31 Spooner Street with Peter, and their three children: Chris, Meg and Stewie, and also Brian, the talking, anthropomorphic family dog. She is 42 years old to date. Peter accidentally grazed her with a bullet from a handgun (she wanted him to put his finger in the wound and twist it.) Lois can be kinky, too, and aggressive as well. She is playful and willing to take. In another episode when her and Meg go on Spring Break, during the awkward car-ride she tells Meg that she took birth control but drinking made it not work, (and that’s how she got Meg). In the episode Peter’s Daughter she tells Meg she could “Just drink and smoke a LOT to have a miscarriage, but don’t stop half way through or you’ll end up with Chris.” Her one-year-old baby, Stewie is very much intent on killing her. Incidentally, this could be a direct result of smoking pot whilst pregnant with

him. Her relationship with Meg is a complicated one. She has a way of being supportive and destructive at the same time. When being hurtful, she is extremely caustic. It’s been said that Meg is not really Peter’s daughter, but her biological daughter is named Stan. Lois’s personality has evolved throughout the episodes. Lois is

But in some episodes she can act darker than normal and sometimes shows a taste for sadomasochism. In the episode “The Son Also Draws”, Lois showed a gambling addiction when the family went to an Indian casino and lost the family car. In the episode “Model Misbehavior”, Lois becomes a bulimic model.

“Stuck Together, Torn Apart” shows Peter and Lois splitting up because of Peter’s jealousy, only to discover that Lois has the same character flaw of jealousy and the two decide to live with their mutually jealous nature. She has also hinted at or been shown using drugs. In the most recent episodes, Lois has been known to have more of a cold-hearted personality, such as laughing at people during serious moments, usually towards Brian or Meg, or sometimes Stewie. Lois is somewhat promiscuous: she had an extramarital affair with former President Bill Clinton, which resulted in a temporary separation from Peter, although the relationship was later rekindled after Peter himself engaged in a sexual liaison with Clinton. She has also been shown to have a large number of ex-boyfriends, including Gene Simmons of the band KISS and a friend of Peter’s named Jerome — both of whom have given her the nickname “Loose Lois”. In the episode And I’m Joyce Kinney, it was revealed that Lois had participated in a pornographic film called “Quest For Fur” to pay for her cocaine addiction which further cemented her being promiscuous.

He is 13 throughout the series until the story told of Blue Harvest were it reveals to the viewers that Chris is currently 15 years old. Though Chris is not the brightest one in the family, he is particularly coherent and makes a good point when talking about movies. Chris deals with the problems that most pubescent boys face: acne, girls, and school. He is 15 years old and is enrolled at James Woods Regional High School. Chris has been known to feel self-conscious about himself, especially his weight. In fact, on the Volume 1 DVD Boxset, it stated that Chris “wouldn’t hurt a fly, unless it landed on his hot dog”. He was referred to as an “Elephant Child” when he was born. Chris is also willing to do something as drastic as to convert to Judaism

order to do better in school, specifically math. He once believed his low grades in mathematics were caused by himself when he tickled his brain by sticking an army man’s rifle into his nose and accidentally puncturing a lobe. Chris enjoys drawing and once almost managed to become a famous artist in New York, but failed.

Chris deals with the problems that most pubescent boys face: acne, girls, and school. Megan “Meg” Griffin (born either 1990 or 1991 according to Not All Dogs Go To Heaven) is the oldest child of Peter and Lois Griffin. She has two brothers; Chris and Stewie. She also has one half-brother Bertram, who noone knows. When Family Guy debuted in 1999, she was 15 years old. She was then turned 16 in the episode

She officially turned 17 in the episode “Peter’s Two Dads.” Meg was originally the sweet teenage daughter who usually took the blame for the terrible things done by members of her family. But over the years, the writers stripped Meg down to a desperate teenager who is hardly noticed by her family. (For example, in an earlier episode, Peter tries a anger management technique by writing letters and not sending them (Meg’s said, “Meg, for the first 4 years of your life, I thought you were a housecat”, while Stewie’s said “Get Out”) This stands in contrast to the later episodes where the family, especially Peter, doesn’t care about her or even love her as a part of the family. Out of all the relationships with the rest of the family, Lois, Brian and Chris seem to treat her normally. However, Lois has sometimes been cruel and dismissive towards her daughter.
